Next Virtua Fighter to have a create a fighter?

Sega came pretty close to it when they made VF 4 and EVO. with all those character edit options and all, but I think it would be really cool if they put a create a fighter mode in the next virtua fighter game. Just imagine being able to make your character, choosing his attire, moves, stances, clothes, body hair color and style. Now that would be awesome. They could also add in moves from the Shemue series, and even take moves from tekken and DOA. the creating process could be done several different ways also, for example they could do it the pro wrestling video game way (wwf no mercy for N64) where you create the way he looks and set his skills speed, strength or however they would do it, than pick witch ever moves you want. Or they can do it where you can create your fighter but you don't have very many items and moves to choose from at the beginning so you have to go on like a quest mode and by meeting certain requirements and winning matching you could earn more moves, items, skill points etc... I think this would be an incredible feature. Just imagine taking your created fighter over your friend’s house and fighting his created fighter, I think it would be much more personal and intense. I have been wanting a create a fighter mode in a fighting game for the longest time now. Hopefully Sega will put this feature in the next VF game. What do you guys think? Would you guys want a create a fighter in the next VF game or in fighting games in general? Or do you think that would be lame and you would rather use the characters that come with the game?

no way. it would be impossible to keep balance in a game with create a fighter, and if you ever face another created fighter, you would have no idea what it's options would be in a situation. it would take away a lot of depth in the game from knowing your opponents character.

Plus you'll have faggots like Konjou Akira and Shangster doing crazy shit like giving Akira a 10 frame punch and make double palm a 8 frame attack.

thats why if they have competitions created characters would not be allowed. or created characters are only allowed to fight created characters.

Nice Idea... but it's not VF...
Most people who play EVO are practicing for tournaments, or just playing to master a character. It would be pointless to include a mode like this.

What would be better is more moves, stages, characters, depth. =P

But think about it. It would add endless replay value. Besides it is the only sensible step, what more can you do with character edit options? They pretty much maxed it out in VF 4 EVO. It would be an extra mode available for fun. Not for competition purposes. Also you guys can't tell me if that option was available you wouldn’t use it, who wouldn’t want to make there own set of characters and balance them out to your own liking? /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

it'd be cool if you played a lot with a friend, but too many VF players are competitive, where it would have no merit.

For custimization, i think a cool think would be designing your own tattoo or piece of clothing online, and uploading it to VFnet... unfortunately, that would only really work in japanese arcades...

next evo: fix teh character saves!!!

    create a character: no
    create an item: maybe
old VF save system: worth sending threatning letters to AM2 about

Everyone always complains about balancing issues, well why not make your own set of characters and make them the way you want. I just think it would be really cool being able to make your self and choose the moves you want for your own character.

Everyone complains about balancing issues because they are playing against other people. If you could just make a character uber powerful that wouldn't be fun at all. It would take the whole point out of competition. =P

I know that you're trying to add more meat to the game, but as of now all we really need is completely lag free online play, which is impossible given current technologies.

I can see why people wouldn’t want to have that feature because allot of people will just make them selves on it and make there character cheap and without weaknesses. Like on the wrestling games on n64 (the ones made by thq) allot of my friends made there guy perfect by maxing out all there skills and giving a big muscular guy with acrobatic moves and lame crap like that. But hardcore fighting game fans like us wouldn’t do that (well at least I wouldn’t). I would just give moves to a character that fits there fighting style and that fits there character design.

And what happens when your balanced character comes up against a 105dmg 3 frame full screen MID throw. Thats right you get your ass kicked. Its a good idea I just dont think it belongs in VF. Customizing your characters items and looks is good enough I say.

FatalRose, I appreciate your enthusiasm for this feature and I agree that there is potential for a well done create-a-fighter game. However, VF is not that game. VF is the deepest and most balanced 3D fighting game on the market. For every choice, there is a counter and for every counter, there is another counter. These choices and counters are (relatively) easy to learn but difficult to master and allow players to experiment with tremendous strategies. This did not happen by accident. Painstaking efforts and years of experience from players and programmers alike have come together to give a fighting game experience like no other. What you propose with the create-a-figher feature would undo every single effort that Sega, AM2, and the legion of followers have put into in this game. Also, I think you fail to realize that while a created fighter would make for a pretty decent one-player game that, unfortunately, as soon as two "custom" fighters face each other the game would devolve into sheer chaos (think "constant mashing"). There could be no real strategies. Now, from time to time I like to throw in SC2 and go to town without any thought as to how I'm playing, but VF is meant to be deep, complex, and constantly enthralling. After you have given many hours to the study of a single character, with all the frame data and flowcharts and ETTEG practice, I think you will agree that when people play VF, it's for keeps. As a simple example of the depth in VF and the amount of study involved, list (to yourself) the options Kage has after he gets an elbow blocked. What are your best choices (as an opponent) if he goes into Jumonji stance? There are many and you must know how to deal with all of them if you want to be any good. This is the reason people play VF and adding any character without clearly defined abilities and faults would result in crap, even if it was only played casually and not at tournaments. Create-a-fighter may have a market, but I doubt anyone on this site is part of it.

Well yea I guess you guys are right. Sorry about torturing you guys forever by posting in this thread but I always wanted to make my own characters and have them in a fighting game. Especially since I am a martial artist I always wanted to make my own realistic fighting game. Well recently I have stopped being in denial and came to the realization that will most likely never happen. so I thought maybe if sega put a create a fighter in the next VF (because they came pretty close to it in VF4) would be a dream come true for me and I thought for other gamers. Since I am a martial artist (I love martial arts more than anything probably) I always felt that it would be cool for me to finally make characters and give them moves that belong with there respective styles. I also always wanted to put myself in a fighting game ever since I played Fatal Fury and SF2 (the first time I ever played a fighting game) way back when they first came out. hopefully sega will one day answer my prayers and come out with a fighter maker that lets you create characters and select moves for them, and easy to use (unlike that piece of crap that came out for the ps2). Well again sorry for bugging you guys with my lame idea.

if (and thats a big if) sega actually came out with a fighter maker type game i think it would be cool. but hopefully they would make a fighter make as simple as it is createing a fighter in a wrestleing game, not like how it was in fighter maker 2. it was just to damn hard. i wasted 50 bucks on that peice of garbage. it was one of the most craptacular games ever made.

They were both awesome games..you actually had to sit down and think about what you were doing with the character.
