Just needs to be wired up. Nothing like a good ol'fashioned stick building to get the VF juices flowing. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Can't wait. (Sorry, the pics are big)

The stick is Sanwa. The buttons don't explicitly say Sanwa on them, but I bought them when Myke and I were bumbling around the AOU show a couple years back, at the Sanwa booth. So, maybe they're Sanwa. They feel nice, mind you.

nice case, the paint looks really smooth.

so what kind of pcb are you going to put inside it? i've seen somebody mod a sixaxis over at srk but the soldering points look really small.

also was wondering if where you're putting start and select? i mention select because i know i'd want it for reset position in training.

but yeah man great looking stick. hope it inspires more people to show some pics or get to building their own customs for vf5. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

What kind of paint did you use on the base? I was thinking of repainting my HRAP3 but I'm not sure what kind of paint won't rub off or become an annoyance for a stick.

  8. Great looking stick - as others have said, the paint job on the base is really nice!

The balltop and buttons look to be Seimitsu (for those asking); i don't think Sanwa do sparkly balltops and transparent buttons.

You could be right, Kurdt. The buttons have no branding on their underside, so it's tough to say. Looking at them more closely, they are slightly different than my other sanwa buttons - mostly in that the collar is slightly larger and the float space between the button and collar is reduced from a sanwa counterpart. I don't know if anyone else has ever experience their thumb nail getting caught between the button and the collar while executing Akira's knee, but it's very painful - I think these buttons in particular would reduce that risk /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The ball top of the stick could be anything. I got it at the AOU show as well, but they're so generic that it could be any random manufacturer.

re the paint - I used a model spray paint (Tamiya T-53 Deep Blue Metalic). The box is made from MDF, and primed twice using Benjamin Moore's "Fresh Start", with good sanding between coats. I'm not sure how many coats of T-53 I used, but I went through 2 little cans worth - so, likely 6-7 coats? I just made sure I went at it slowly with thin coats. I sanded between the first 3 spray coats with 1000, then just kept layering.

The top sheet is simply a laminated colour laser printout. The kinkos here will laminate with an adhesive backing and that just gets stuck on top to hide screws. The actual image I stole from the american VF5 website - it's the flash background that I've turned horizontal and slapped my avatar on in PS. The avatar is actually "llanfair" written 4 times in a circle.

It's beautiful... Seeing this really makes me want to learn how to play stick, and probably and make my own too! It's like a work of art!

And please, don't decrease the size of the image. It's too nice!!

I think everyone is interested in what pcb are you going to put in there. Once you decide on that, let us know. We might want to follow in your footstep. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I had the intentions of using a sixaxis but EVO explicitly states that you cannot use a wireless controller and the USB connector for the Sixaxis is just for power - the controller still remains wireless.

I've since moved to wiring up a Logitech controller that's wired. It's not as elegant internally as the Sony controllers, but it will do the trick. Also, the nice thing about using a wired controller is that I don't have to wire up the PS3 button.

I'll take some pics of the process and share the results.

Wow, really, the usb is power only? I asked a while back and someone said that it is for the controller also, not just power. Now I don't know what's true. Anyway, madcats just put out a ps3 controller, wired, 29.99 if you want to go that route.

For what it's worth - system updates to PS3 require that the sixaxis be plugged in.

I have similar buttons as you have on one of my setups. Those were bought from the official Seimitsu website. Might yours be that too? I know what you mean with the collar and float space. Anyway, just a suggestion.
