I have an assignment to review a game. I'm reviewing VF5. Not to give it a score, but to analyse its strong points, weakpoints etc.

Part of the assignment is to compare to other games of similar genre. In which case, I'm ATM comparing VF5 to VF4:E (I had to bring up the training mode).

Out of curiosity, I checked on Lei Fei's VF4:E frame data, and came across 66K+G.

Which is mid, fully tracks, and is safe on block (-3 IIRC).

So I checked on his VF5 Ver. C counterpart.

Which is also mid, fully tracks, and is -3 on block.

Am I the only guy who hates fully tracking mids that are safe? I mean, he's not the only guy that has a safe fully tracking mid.

I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I feel guilty for spamming it all the time, now. Online and off. Always wondering by it doesn't get thrown well at times.

There is a catch in that move... Even if he is -3, he is actually backturned and in stance where he cant block..

 

Yeah, but he has other options.

Really, he shouldn't be able to do anything, TBH.

BT lei fei is magic

 

Lei and Shun is Bullshit but you can beat them by being cautious and have good defense.


In real life Shaolin Monks are nasty period.
And after washing Drunken master 2. Shun still has even more moves Sega could give him *Sigh*

 

Jack's kick is unsabakiable and I believe to be (if not) one of the fastest full-circular mid kicks in the game. When I went into BT w/ Lei, I knew his next attack would be the kick, but I turned around and still ate it on CH somehow /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

 

Actually, if you hesitate even one frame after blocking /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, Jackys /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif will lose to koko /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif which is a 14 frame mid. You have to buffer Jackys spin kick in that situation. If Leis kick that entered koko actually hit, then Jacky will lose.

And of course not all characters have as good options, and Lei has more options too. If for example Jacky blocks Leis /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (just -1) and tries the mid spin kick, Jacky will lose to Koko K.

 

when he is forced to throw his few throws are not very powerful compared to all the other chars. even though he has many good staggering moves you really dont have time to input b4 u are tossed like a salad. lei doesnt have great d-fence and his fighting style is supposed 2 b based around d-fence. i really attack then back out and visa versa to win but that doesnt work all the time. if you got xbox live send me a freind request my tag is IMHEREloveme. -peace

 

Having 2 powerful throw directions and 2 weaker throw directions is enough. Stance cancel throw is a staple part of many of Leis basic mix-ups.

As for staggers Doku d+K and Ura Nehan K (and Ura Nehan f+K) are serious business if the opponent doesn't struggle well enough. Confirming f+P stagger into the follow-up is also a nice way to knockdown.

Why do you say Lei doesn't have good defense? He's got a shitload of powerful and effective sabakis and evasive movements and attacks.
Also, why would you say he's supposed to be defensive? He's a powerhouse when it comes to forcing mix-ups and that makes him pretty offensive already.

Hit and run tactics can be good for anyone in right situations but usually if you actually manage to hit them you should press the advantage.

i didn't include blackdragon b/c i have never played him, lol, i almost put him in the same catagory as branj, but he's been posting for so long, i grandfathered him in.

Can't put cidkid on that list, b/c then he'd never get to post, cidkid doesn't frequent the site it would seem and i've never seen him online.

Srsly Black, quit hiding on the underground, we need to get some games in, or at least play social ruin, coz, numbers, linz, someone so they can tell me what you are all about. Been curious for awhile.

I kinda feel like an asshole nomiating myself for qualifying to be considered among the notable lei fei players but this i must do. a lot of regulars have played me and im always up for a fight. as for lei fei's defense, I try not to be on defense a whole lot with him. i mean basics like ETEG apply to anyone but my defensive moves sabakis, bokutai, hai shiki /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gifor /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif etc.. usually work best while im on offense. at least thats what ive noticed. hit me up for lei matches anytime take care vfdc
