Hi, everyone. I hope you guys can make it to NYG3. Although I don't know my teaching schedule at U Mass yet, I will try to be there from Friday night.
Yesterday, I was at Adnan's place and talking about the gathering. Some of you may not notice, but Adnan's father is making a big compromise to let us stay and use the conference hall to play VF there. Realistically speaking, what costs more is the accomodation fee. Say, the DVD recording equipment, Andy ( CrewNYC) gets to keep it so that we should not worry about the fee there except for actual blank DVD and shippin fees. (Anyway, he always wanted it, so he should not get any money for it, I think personally.) Adnan is too nice to ask people for money, but if you must know, the hotel rooms cost 120-140 buck a night. I think maybe we can all contribute 20-25 per a night and maybe four people stay in one room. (The rooms are for two people and I am used to sleeping on the carpet in the past NYG's.) Since I was in Japan last week, I didn't get to see what was posted, but the money should be paid more for the hotel rooms and not for BBQ and DVD's as I, personally, do not care about either of them. (Who cres about those? If you have never been to NYG, you will see that there is enough time to make friends wqith each others even if we don't spend money in these. And, what's the chance that you will see the DVD's when you can download matches between the best VF players in Japan as weel as in the wolrd?)

I am sorry to post this kind of message, but I felt I had to since Adnan is too shy to do this. And it is Adnan whom we have to help, not CrewNYC(andy). His father is making a big compromise. (Although he does not like games, his father is nice enough to donate pizza and drinks, etc all the time!!)

Well, Adnan is busy working and also he does not have an internet connection at home, but I will make post something this week, and we will see what's the right thing to do!!!!

Hiro, that is not a problem from me. I will contribute even though I might not be staying at the hotel rooms overnight. I have a friend who I am staying with. But I am definetly going to contribute. But I pm'ed Adamyuki asking to pay in person. I don't like using my credit card online. Just my fear that's all. :)

Hi. I'm sorry but I probably won't be able to see VFDC for a while, since I only have Win 95 on my old computer ( \it does not let me install IE ver 6 and IE ver 5 does not work on VFDC)
now that my girlfirend left me. In Amherst, there is no internet cafe and probably I will have to wait until I get to NY to check anything. But, one thing I want you to remember is that IT IS ADNAN who is making all the compromise, not Andy, and I want you to help him if you are going to give any money!! I will call him to get to a computer this week and we shall see what he has to say. (Many of you who are new may see Andy is representing our NYC voice, but it is not. He likes to bring confusions. And I'm sure Rodney and Sal will agree with me. I just feel sorry for Adnan.)

    Thank you.

    Hiro

(Note: My original account (Hyun) stoped working so I am writing with a new ID.)

Hiro is absolutely and positively right!! Who really cares about DVD? We all know that we will f__k up our sleeping and eating pattern during this geekfest and who would really care about BBQ? I am sorry to say this but I will try to be honest with what I say: Just like pretty much anything CrewNYC did, I can't help the feeling that this DVD is pretty much a hot air. (Sorry to put this in a less diplomatic way than Hiro did.) Even if it comes out (which I doubt) I don't have intention to pay for it.

And this is about Adam: I only have been to NYG1 but it was clear that he (and his father) was making a lot of concessions. While giving my thank and respect to Adam and his family, here I question if that sacrifice is truly necessary.

There are two issues with the location of Adam's hotel:

    1. It's at the very tip of Long Island and distanced from pretty much anything. From Massachusetts Philadelphia is closer. Even NYC people have some trouble getting there. It sure weeds out most of NYC players not part of VFDC. (i.e. Chinatown fair crowd.)

    2. Because this is a tourist spot, hotels are expensive. Just outside NYC there are plenty of cheaper hotels. Even inside NYC it's possible to find much cheaper accomodation if you don't care about comfort. (And face it, you shall not come to a VF gathering if you do.)

Again, I am not trying to put down Adam, but after being in a Baltimore Otakon, I came to realize the importance of having a gathering closer to a major metropolitan center. Is it really imposible to have NYG inside NYC? or closer to NYC? And keep the cost at reasonable level while REMOVING BURDEN OFF Adam. I believe Chicago gathering once took place in a school setting. (Maybe difficult while school is in session, but may be not impossible.) Roanoke, VA has gathering that's happening in a rented hotel setting. It may be difficult inside NYC metropolitan area but should be possible a little outside NYC. Recently TBZone website held 130~ people 2day tournament (including three guest players from Japan) in a rented commercial space in downtown Seoul. Each participant only paid around 5 dollar US.

My point is that I don't think these options have been really explored. If a good alternate option can be found I believe it will help Adam and maybe bring in more players from NYC into this.

I completely agree. I think food can be done for cheap. Perhaps we can organize some way in order to compensate Adnan and his father? Even if everybody giave 40-50 bucks, he is still loosing out...
