I'm hosting a multi-game get-together/tournament on October 25th. This is basically a get-together for fighting game fans of all types. Here's a chance to meet fans of 'other' fighting games. Beat them at their own game and make fun of them, or simply marvel at the level of play you didn't know was possible on other games. In any case, just come out at have some fun.

    TOURNAMENT RULES:
    - Tournament Entry Fee is $2 with 100% payout. 1st place = 60% of pot. 2nd place = 30%. 3rd place = 10%. That's just enough to make it exciting, but not enough to break anyone's bank. This is a tournament, but it's more for FUN and bragging rights than anything.

    - In order to see who's the most versatile fighting game player, there will be four (4) different tournament games (see below for list). Two 3-D and two 2-D fighting games from each of the 4 major fighting game makers. (My apologies to Guilty Gear fans... I had no room for a 5th SAMMY groove. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

    - Tournament will be DOUBLE ELIMINATION. That means you can lose your match and still win the whole from the loser's bracket.

    - Players will be seeded randomly.

    - All Matches are 2 out of 3 games. All games are 2 out of 3 rounds.

    - Normal Games: When it's your turn to play your match, a penny AND a nickel will be flipped to determine which game will be played:

    P-heads/N-tails = SvC
    P-heads/N-heads = SC2
    P-tails/N-tails = SSF2T
    P-tails/N-heads = VF4Evo

    - Loser's Brack and Winner's Bracket Finals: These matches must be played on EACH of the 4 games. All 4 games MUST be played unless someone wins the first 3. The games will be played in alternating order depending on type (3D or 2D) with the game order determined by the double coin toss. Should there be a tie (ex: one person wins SvC and SSF2T and the other wins SC2 and VF4Evo) then the tiebreker game will be KILLER INSTICT (dedicated arcade)!! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Example:

    Toss Coins.
Penny = Heads. Nickel = Tails. [1st game is SvC]
    Next game must be 3D.
Toss Coins until we get a 3D combination.
Penny = Tails. Nickel = Heads. [2nd game is VF4Evo]
Next game must be 2D. So... [3rd game is SSF2T]
Only one game left. So... [4th game is SC2]

    - This will be a long tournament. If you are not around withing 3 minutes of your name being called, you will be disqualified for that match only. Stick around. Make sure you know about when you will be playing next.

    THE GAMES:
    - SvC Chaos: SNK Vs Capcom - SNK GROOVE
[Setup: Dedicated 25" NeoGeo Arcade Cabinet.]
This game came out a few months ago, and it's the newest arcade game in my collection. Not many people have much experience with this game yet, so anything can happen!

    - Soul Calibur 2 - NAMCO GROOVE
[Setup: 61" HDTV (non-widescreen) w/ two separate X-Arcade Sticks on XBOX]
Currently the most popular 3D fighter in the US. Every US website and gaming magazine seems to be in love with this game at the moment. For simplicities sake, no console specific characters may be used. No Spawn/Link/Heihachi.

    - Super Street Fighter II Turbo - CAPCOM GROOVE
[Setup: Dedicated 29" Capcom Impress Arcade Cabinet (Japanese Import)]
The last of the 'old-school' Street Fighters. This is a Japanese cabient with Japanese-style joysticks and buttons. If you suck at the 'new 3D stuff', here's your chance to redeem yourself. Akuma/Gouki will not be allowed as a tournament character.

    - Virtua Fighter 4 Evo - SEGA GROOVE
[Setup: 27" TV with default PS2 Control Pads]
The 'hardcore' 3D game. Time for the VF crowd to show their superiority? We'll see. I presume that people will be OK with PS2 controllers, but if the need arises, we can easily hookup an XArcade to the PS2.

    DETAILS:

    - Fees: There will be a $5 'House Fee' that will be used to purchase pizza/sodas/snacks. This is mandatory as everyone inevitably starts to nibble or drink at some point... even when 'they just ate.' And if you don't, then you'll be feeding your friends. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Plus, it's just a huge hassle trying to collect for pizza and snacks once people become 'entrenched.'

    - Location: The tournament will be held in my home in Round Rock, TX. You will have to RSVP by emailing me at mrkatsu@hotmail.com in order to receive the directions/phone number to my house. You may also contact me via AIM (s69Katsu). I will have all my arcade games set to free play (Neo Geo, Killer Instinct, SSF2T, etc. all night long.)

    - Time: October 25th
    7:00pm - 9pm - Warmup and Freeplay and Signups
9:30pm - ?am - Tournament. This will be a LONG tournament. Be prepared.

    - What to Bring: Money. You'll need at least $7 (pizza+tournament). Yourself. Friends. The $5 'house fee' will go 100% towards pizza/sodas/snacks. However, if you have a favorite snack/drink, go ahead and bring it. Label it if you don't wanna share. If you would like to bring extra TV's, consoles, games or the like, please clear it with me first.

    - Alcohol/Cigarettes - Alcohol. BYOB. Just keep it under control. Cigarettes. You can smoke outside on my front porch or back patio. Hell, I'll probably join you.

Remember that you don't HAVE to play in the tournament. There will be plenty of gaming going on...

Also, I have limited space so email mrkatsu@hotmail.com and RSVP ASAP if you plan to attend.

I doubt I will go, but we'll see... I am going to contact everyone I know who plays vf and sc2 and let them know about it. If a lot of people respond and rsvp, I can always make exceptions at work...

    Texas players, post up!

    GATHERING (CONFLICT: TOURNEY POSTPONED)

Due to conflicts with stuff going on in the neo-geo forums and the snk-capcom forums, the multi-game tourney will be postponed until a later date. However, there will still be a gathering on the 25th, just not as many people and no multigame tourney. Just a simple gathering at my place.

    Same as last time:
    - All arcade machines set to free play. (KI, SvC, NeoGeo,SF2 cabs)
    - 61" HDTV
    - XBX/GC/PS2/DC/NES/SNES/etc. available.
    - Multiple game 'stations' in different rooms.
    - Games of interest: SC2, SvC, CvS2, VF4, Bomberman, MarioParty, etc.
    - Pizza will be the food of choice. $5 nets you 1/2 a large.
    - Bring your own favorite snacks/drinks. (I'll provide basics snacks.)
    - Starts at 7pm on October 25th. Ends at 7am or when I kick J.C. out.
    - 2v2 Tournament? Maybe.

Normally 10-15 ppl show up for a regular gathering.

Email mrkatsu@hotmail.com if you'd like to attend, and I'll provide directions and phone number to my place. Just come out and meet your fellow Austin/Texan gamers.
