This thread is for anyone who is interested in this genre of music. Feel free to post anything you want about it.

Ill start of with an age old question Mahler or Bach, or are you one of those freaks who swears by overplayed and overcomercialised stuff like Mozart?

I dig ride of the valkyries.

Here's a topic for chattering about, tho I dunno if anyone on the board is enough of a classical enthusiast to answer with any certainty:

Do you think the people who compose and study classical music would

A: look down their nose at video game music such as castlevania's and FF's
B: Look at it without hating it, but maybe with a little bemusement and condescension ...or
C: Think some of it is actually in the same league as stuff written hundreds of years ago?

I guess there's a B_2 or something in between B and C where you could argue the music is maybe as good as some modern stuff but not as good as The Greats.

I got a lot of enjoyment out of an old konami rearrangement of castlevania music, my personal favorite is a redone version of The Cave for SNES castlevania IV. I also thought the tunes in FFT were better than catchy.

Hmm... that's a good question. Probably they would not be in tune with it. It's just not music to them. Perhaps I could be wrong.

I dig the music of soulblazer and illusion of gaia.

Since this is a classical music thread i was wondering if anyone can help me i'm after this one song but i don't have a clue who composed it.
i've got only one clue to the song it features in the last level of "Rick Dangerous" game it's a famous piece and features in films time to time. If anyone can help it will deeply be apreciated.

Optimus Prime: One shall stand, one shall fall.
Megatron: Why throw away your life so recklessly?
Optimus Prime: That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron.

your clue didn't help me much as I dunno that game, but the most popular tunes I hear in film are "Ride of the Valkyries" (has a chorus of voices singing DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN! (beat) ..DUN-DUN-DUN-DUN ! . .. well nevermind :B ... but they always play it when something big and bad and maybe horrible is being revealed.

The other common tune is Ode to Joy.

Ode to Joy is the shit.

For anybody that doesn't know it's the 4th movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony. You've no doubt heard it in either A Clockwork Orange or Neon Genesis Evangelion. : )

Lack of exposure/exploration (despite decent interest) has me generally going towards the overplayed/overcommercialized stuff--because I don't know any better at this point.

My interest in the guitar has me appreciating Bach a bit more than I normally would at the moment.

    Sadly, that's all I can contribute..../versus/images/icons/frown.gif

You should get soulseek, by far the best P2P program i've ever used, its mainly for electronic music but they've got a ton of classical and pretty much any other kind of music, go to slsk.org and DL it!
