I find that a great way to open up a match on the xbox 360 is RT, LT, RT, and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to fall into doku stance. I ussually press RT from there or followup with a low hit or a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif according to the block or move used by the opponent. A great way to f*ck up a fast moving opponent is to knock them down and quickly pull back into a laying-down stance, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif from a shurikan and do a low kick. Also, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will land lei in a koko stance, a great damage dealing, fast ass combo is a double RT to land him again in koko. Use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif while in koko for a quick blow. -RT and LT is R2 and L2 on ps3

If you have the default control settings (I know cidkid and denkai use strange setups), RT is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and LT is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. If...
    1. you open with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, you're put into doku stance.
    2. you follow up with LT, Doku /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif probably comes out, which leaves you in Hai.
    3. you hit RT and the Hai high full circular /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif comes out which leaves you in Hai.
    4. you got into doku and you follow up with (im assuming to be) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif.

    so...

    1. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    2. Doku /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    3. Hai /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
    4. Doku /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

This probably wouldn't work on a decent player. Keep mixing it up though and rip stuff you like from good players. I was a Menace and junosynth clone when I started playing last year.

If you're in the suirakan stance while you're opponent is down they'll probably use a low rising kick to knock you out of it and get a free down attack. I've seen VFNumbers use suirakan /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to hop over a low riser before but I wouldn't recommend doing it.

(/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif?) from koko is a great quick full circular attack at 15 frames making it very easy for lei to trap dmpk spammers, aside from Wolf's and OS Vanessa's as sometimes it'll whiff over them and they get a free back throw. (NOT COOL) But on the other hand, on counterhit, the followup koko /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is guaranteed for huge net damage without much risk. Koko p is good against people unaccoustomed to fighting Lei but on guard you're forced into a nikatu situation.

In opening matches I've seen lots of lei fei players "shoot the jay" and just rush in for a throw. Lei-Fei's mix-ups can be incredibly tantalizing sometimes so it can be hard to predict when to use throw escapes against him.

Please give your moves in normal notation, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif = punch, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif = kick and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif = guard. Lot of people here including myself, use joysticks, so I havent got a clue what you said.

Note to cozby: Lei /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is only -1 on block and dokuritsu /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif afterwards beats normal linear mid/throw mixup cleanly. Although you may need to evade to certain side depending on stance. This in addition to dokuritsu autoreversing most elbows and mids that opponent might do..

    I hate Lei.

    ps
No such move from Koko shiki. Youre talking about some other stance I guess.

    My opinion:
From Risk vs Reward, the best two start offs are:
    Back Dash (or crouch backdash)
    1p+k+g

However, this is void of yomi and not charactar specific. Both issues come into play in real life matches.

The OP's skill is fairly ordinary. The best starters for players in the beginner/amateur ranks are the moves that fast execute and are combo starters. Its crazy not to consider:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/n.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

All these moves are great openers for various reasons vs ordinary opponents.

Against 10dan+ opponents you wouldn't need to be told what moves are best.

    a few of my favorites:

    43p+k
    44866p (buffer the 448)
    466p+k
442p+k+g k+g (works great vs dmpk spammers)
448p+k+g 1p+k+g 2k (this might be a little difficult for beginners)

The Hai Shiki can be great to use at the beginning of a match but then again someone can rush to hit you. But..... there is always the other stances to confuse enemies and make them look silly.
