Anyone down for a 3-day VF4 slugfest the weekend of March 28,29, and 30th? The gathering will take place at my home in Scranton, PA. Everyone will have a free place to stay; just bring cash for food, and stuff like pillows, blankets etc. for sleeping. I do have spare bed clothes, but not enough for everyone. I'm outta work at 3pm on Friday (March 28); so we can get started around 7pm or so on Friday night, and play until anytime on Sunday (I don't go back to work until 3pm on Monday; so if anyone wants to stay over on Sunday night as well, it's fine with me).

Hopefully this time will be a better showing; since everyone (except for Akira Zero /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif) eventually backed out at some point before the first gathering /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif. You all have plenty of time to plan for this one; so get your asses up here /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif. To all potential attendees; let me know if you plan on showing, so I can take a preliminary head count and get an idea of how many tv's/ps2's I will need. Hope to see you at the end of next month!!

Awesome! If John can't stop by that weekend, Frank (who is definitely going to be here) could probably fix your PS2. What was wrong with it again? Loose wire and/or your fan stopped working. If something needs to be soldered; we'll def. need John's soldering gun.

if you are looking for random strangers to come join you, i may have to drive to scranton. =]

i'm in MD, near DC, and i'm getting desperate for real VF players. my skills are not nearly what they could be, i need some people to beat the crap out of me and force me to get better. so... i'm up for any gathering i can drive to.

We would be more than happy to help anyone willing to better themselves /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. By all means, try to make it!Hell, with the exception of Akira Zero, everyone is going to be a stranger. Btw, who do you use?

i try to use everyone, but mostly everyone silly and/or annoying. =] i'm most comfortable with lion.

and damn, i wish i had a modded PS2 to play evo.. i'm working on that. hopefully i'll have some practice before meeting more evo players.

    Awesome!

Maybe I'll try to arrange for an extra TV if enough people plan on attending. That way we can play Evo on one, and ver. C on the other /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

    doesnt look hopeful.

see.. i broke my arm a litte while ago.. and while its good enough to play VF4, its got no strength, the elbow is messed up... so i cant drive a stickshift. so either i need someone else to drive my car with me, or i need someone else to drive their car. all my local freinds who could have done it have already said they're busy... so i donno how i'd get up there.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear about that. As far as transportation goes, if Shadowdean is able to go I think he'll be able to drive you. You should PM him later about it.

Well, the gathering is in the record books; and I must say that it was a pleasure to once again play Akira Zero, as well as Hammerhead and virtuaPAI for the first time ever. Also, after playing these guys at ver. C for a day or so; I got my first taste of Evo this past weekend as well (thanks to Akira Zero for bringing his import of Evo and his modded PS2). I love Wolf's new throws, low throws, and catch throws! Although I'm not so sure he's actually been improved in Evo due to the knee change (yes, the old one was better than the SS, I don't care what anyone says). Being able to tech roll b+p during a float now and escape the pickup (despite the new ground throws) is also quite a blow to his overall strategy. But, I've only played it for a day and a half, so I can only hope that sega compromised these things by improving upon others. Jeffry (who seems heavily changed) and Aoi (who hasn't changed too much) seemed to be just as effective as they were in version C. But again, these are just early observations; as I haven't been able to actually spend a lot of time playing Evo.

I think we have ourselves a new VFer in virtuaPAI; whom is a diehard (and awefully lonely /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif) DOA3 player. After thrashing us at this game (yes, he felt compelled to bring his Xbox and DOA3 with him /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif), we began to teach him the ropes of VF4 (in which he had limited experience, and zero competition). And, to our amazement, how quickly he learned! Pai is obviously a good choice for beginners, but he was back dashing/crouch back dashing, setting up throws with p, and low p, and pulling off impressive combos in no time! It seems like he picks up on fighting games rather quickly; not to mention he has a great sense of humor when it comes to harmlessly busting on him about DOA3 /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I also met Hammerhead for the very first time; and I must say that he is very enthusiastic, informative, and knowledgable when it comes to VF. He pointed out some little tidbits regarding my gameplay that I didn't know about or simply never thought of trying, that should help improve my game even more. This guy knows so much about the game; it's obvious that he plays with some high level players on a regular basis. I had a blast playing his Jacky, Wolf, and the rest of the characters he used. Also, I enjoyed conversing with him every bit as much as playing him at VF.

Last and certainly not least, is Akira Zero. I know I thanked you already via PM, but I want to thank you again for being largely responsible for the success of this gathering. Out of everyone, his playing style is most like my own. We both play very offensively, and try to put our opponent's away as quickly as possible. Where I excel at throwing, he has a slight edge in defense; as he escaped a lot of my throws and evaded tons of my attacks. His game has improved dramatically since last time, and he already possessed some mad skillz back then! It's easy to see that he's starting to get some decent exposure to good VF competion. I made a point of not tech rolling against his Lei Fei this time in fear of that dreaded "back crumble/stagger combo of doom." But he doesn't need it to kick some serious ass with Lei. His Akira has improved as well, some really sweet combos!

Well enough of my rambling; just wanted to reflect on the awesome time I had this past weekend. I'm already going through Evo withdrawal /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif. It's going to be hard to resist the temptation to import, while still praying for the announcement it's official US release.

    Sounded like a great time.

I saw HH and V-Pai at Chinatown Fair before Akira Zero picked them up to go to your place. They invited me to come along but I had set plans for the weekend, hopefully I can make it next time. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
