I just got my import Jap version of VF4 EVo. I love it. I just have one question everything I read said the game was in progressive scan but for the life of me I can't seem to turn it on. The button presses are not the same (X+triangle at boot). Does anyone even know if its actually in the game?

It's not in the Japanese version. I'm not certain about the UK or US release, though.

I was told that it's present in the NTSC (US) version but not in the PAL version. No idea why though.

This is also what I have heard from most sources (out of the US), apparently Sega had not enough time to enable progressive scan as early as the PAL and NTSC Asian versions.

The US version seems to be getting the VF 10th anniversary edition bonus on it, and also progressive scan, which should make up for the months and months the Americans have to wait for a domestic release. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What is funny though is that most sites list progressive scan as one of the features of VF Evo, I haven't found one site that clearly says that Evolution is sans progressive scan, does anyone know any sites?

FYI- I don't think there is any standard for progressive scan in PAL

I know chief, did you read my post.....

I am saying that the game in PAL and NTSC Asia have no progressive scan, but the American version has to be confirmed (or denied) progressive scan.

Did you mean to reply to me, or to the creator of the thread?

I think I was replying to both of you.

I'm only talking about the difference between the PAL and US NTSC versions. The PAL version has no progressive scan regardless of when it came out because (as far as I'm aware /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif) there's no such thing as progressive scan PAL.

I'm sure the release time was a factor in the Japanese version getting no progressive scan, but for PAL it's irrelevant.

I am still very curious as if the American version is going to have progressive scan, my thoughts are no...but I might be wrong.

Sega still doesn't have progressive scan as a feature on the American website for VF4:Evolution, though most online web publishers list progressive scan as one of the new improvements over VF4 to Evolution, just gonna have to wait......

Tekken 4 PAL has prog scan option.

I think I recall reading that prog scan support on tvs is just really rare here, not non existent.

But yeah T4 definitely has prog scan option.

Are there any places were I can read detailed information about what progressive scan is or does?
I don’t know much about it, so it would be interesting to see what it is.

Or if someone here could briefly tell me what it does it would be most appreciated!

    Thanks.

Almost all TVs are interlaced, meaning that the TV screen is made up of horizontal scan lines (instead of the pixels used in a PC moniter). The lines are drawn odd first (lines 1,3,5,7 etc.), then even (2,4,6,8 etc.) every 25th of a second. Because the scan lines are drawn alternately the method was named interlaced.

The interlaced method was at the time very useful, because drawing the picture linearly created flickering problems. Although interlaced was useful for solving the flickering problem, it creates images that have blurring and overall less detail. With current technology the flickering problem has been solved, and we can now use Progressive Scan. Progressive scan simply scans all the lines in one pass (1,2,3,4,5 etc.) instead of doing the odd lines and then the even lines. This gets rid of any of the picture problems that come with using an interlaced screen.

I actually found a pretty good site that explained how progressive scan works and the advantages it gives but it seems to have gone /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
