Interesting looking PS2 Evo stick in that second clip. Training mode appears to have tons of new features added. The new Quest mode is sure to keep me up late every night.....excellent.

Yeah, some stuff I noticed from the movies:

-Evo-specific strategy training and combos (I assume) in trial training.
For example they show akira doing f+P -> b -> df+P+K three times.
I also see lion being taught to do f+P+K -> bb+K,P+K vs. aoi.

-The stick seems to be missing a button, making it pretty much VF-use only?! I mean I count seven obvious buttons. Where's 8?

-In quest mode I saw a shop where you can buy items such as the snorkel. Given that kumite was meant to simulate challengers in a version C arcade setting, quest mode will probably integrate something like that with current arcade quest mode, i.e. you choose people to fight against, win money and random prizes, buy stuff at shops, and sometimes are required to beat an enemy with something very specific in order to get a prize (i.e. all ring outs or get 10 hits in a row or whatever).

-Weird items/outfits, it'd be neat if some of the ones shown were evo version-B-specific.

The training room IS a lot nicer looking, I'm wondering if they'll do one PS2-specific stage like last time, or if the old water PS2 stage got a facelift, or if it was removed, or what.

I think the stick is a poorly designed. Improvement is having it a 5 button stick. But its two buttons on top, three on bottom, if the layout was vice versa, then you have a SNK layout with the top row. And why 5 buttons, this isnt tekken tag =P

Kataoka on the mic, Katagiri and Takuhan on the sticks(Katagiri is the Reno lookalike, only older and BIGGER)

I think the new Quest mode looks really cool. One of the neatest things is the simulated tournaments, with the animated brackets etc. It shows the player fighting Segaru, Ohsu Akira, Chibita, and Kurita with their appropriate items/colors. I hope they have AI routines that are custom this time.

I also noticed in the shop that you can buy "special movies". One of the press releases also talks about Mission Mode, Shodatsusen, and Fight Money, so I guess all those things are included.

The new training stage does look really cool, reminds me of the space-ship from 2001, or the lab from MGS1. Things already seem to animate better, like the lapel of Jacky's jacket. Goh's face looks a little different, like there's black circles around his eyes.

Anyway, looks set to pass expectations again.

I think it's designed for people who prefer the horizontal button alignment as well as the angular one. I heared and read that the Koreans, for example, play the straight across horizontal buttons, so this stick would be good for all VF players I guess /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Well, for you who are complaining, why not just get the regular VF4 stick or build your own? Anyway, the white buttons I'm sure is not for use when fighting. They are clearly smaller, and I'm guessing might be used for quest functions.

    Texture quality.

What did everyone think of the textures? Personally I couldn't see a prominent fault but the film moved so quickly. In the second clip the fight between Pai and Jacky looked good but I'm still not too sure about the textures for Akira that were shown near the end.

I'm looking out for the things that were missing in the previous PS2 conversion: Akira's facial details, Wolf's body (it was all shiny) and Sarah's shiny P1 bodysuit and her missing six pack in her P2 costume. Goh looked fine but he's so pale anyway and is not a good example of arcade faithful textures. Does anyone know how long AM2 have been working on Evo?

Since the announcement was made so soon after the arcade release, I’m assuming they’ve been working on it since day one. It’s hard for me to judge the graphics based on the clips currently available, but from what I’ve seen so far, it looks fairly close to arcade quality. I’ve noticed that “shiny†look on certain characters as well. Hopefully they’ll improve the textures in time. I’m anxiously awaiting a U.S. release date.

Heh, annyone expecting graphics that are close to the arcade version is in for a surprise.
VF4 Evo in the arcades pushes the Naomi2 architecture a lot more then VF4 did so even if AM2 polished up the engine and stuff it will still look wel below the arcade version.

What's with the negative attitude? /versus/images/icons/smirk.gif I'm sure if anyone can pull it off, Sega can. The PS2 is definitely capable of producing near arcade-quality graphics. Take a look at "WWE Smackdown". The graphics are amazing.

Urm, the logic in youre post baffles me.
Developed from the ground up for PS2 and moving at 30fps with horrible physics compared to VF4 evo.
Not really a game you can compare with VF4evo.

errrrrr, I'm not comparing it to Evo, I'm giving you an example of the graphics the PS2 is capable of. That's what my post was about.... graphics. Read carefully next time before you jump all over my post.

How did I jump to conclusions when youre reaction was a reaction to me talking about Evo on PS2?
I gave reasons why Evo wont look as good as it does in the arcade and you reacted to that so the direction of post and reply was definitly about evo on PS2.

    Qod ead demonstrandum.

    Re: Texture quality.

You responded with an incorrect evaluation of my post. Who in their right mind would compare a wrestling game to Evo? That's absurd. Once again, I was simply giving an example of a game that IMO has good graphics, NOT comparing the two. It's not very wise to automatically assume that PS2 Evo's graphics will be sub-par. AM2 has already had a substantial amount of time to work with the PS2 hardware.....I'm sure they can come up with something.
