    Challenge Training

    1. Guard Challenge

[1-A] Guard CPU Akira's [6][6][P] or [3][P][+][K] 10 times consecutively. There is a 3 second countdown between each attack.

[1-B] Guard CPU Akira's [6][6][P] or [3][P][+][K] 10 times consecutively. There is no delay between each attack.

[1-C] After guarding CPU Akira's [P], Akira will then randomly throw, [2_][4][6][P] or [3][P][+][K]. Successfully avoid/defend all options 10 times consecutively. To do this, hold [2_][G] after guarding the [P] to duck the throw, then release to neutral[G] to guard the mid, and finally hold [2_][G] again to guard the low attack if required.

[1-D] After letting CPU Akira's [P][K] hit you, Akira will then randomly throw, [2_][4][6][P] or [3][P][+][K]. Successfully avoid/defend all options 10 times consecutively. Same method as above, except you must crouch dash [3][3] initally to duck the throw.

    2. Instant Recovery Challenge

[2-A] Let CPU Akira hit you with the air combo. Instantly recover from the last slam hit once.

[2-B] Perform Just Recovery against Jeffry's [4][P][+][G] throw 5 times consecutively.

[2-C] Perform Just Recovery against Wolf's Giant Swing throw 5 times consecutively.

[2-D] Perform Just Recovery against Jacky's [3][3][P][+][G] throw 5 times consecutively.

[2-E] Perform Just Recovery against Lion's [3][3][P][+][G] or [4][1][2][3][6][P][+][G] throw 5 times consecutively.

[2-F] Perform Just Recovery against Lau's [4][3][P][+][G] or [2_][6][P][+][G] throw 5 times consecutively.

[2-G] Perform Just Recovery against Akira's [4][6][P][+][G] or [1][6][P][+][G] throw 5 times consecutively.

    3. Stagger Recovery Challenge

[3-A] Recover from Brad's [6][P] stagger and guard the followup attack 5 times consecutively.

[3-B] Recover from Lau's [4][2][P][+][G] throw to guard the followup [4][6][P] 5 times consecutively.

[3-C] Recover from Wolf's [2_][6][P] (let it counter hit you) and guard the followup [6][3][2][1][4][P] 5 times consecutively.

    [3-D] Recover from Akira's [4][2][P][+][G] to guard the [2_][6][P] 5 times consecutively.

    4. Avoiding Challenge

[4-A] Dodge Jeffry's [1][K] or [4][6][6][P] 10 times consecutively. Note, these attacks are half circular and can only be dodged in one direction (back side and front side respectively).

[4-B] Guard Jacky's [6][P]. If he continues into [6][P][P], crouch under it and counter with [2][P]. If he simply does another [6][P], guard it. Do this 10 times consecutively.

    5. Throw Challenge

[5-A] Select the CPU character. CPU character will then begin attacking you. Throw if you guard a throw-guaranteed move, otherwise counter with [2][P]. Do this 10 times consecutively.

[5-B] Same as above, but do it 20 times consecutively.

    6. Throw Escape Challenge

[6-A] CPU Jeffry guards your throw-guaranteed move, then he will randomly perform [P][+][G], [6][P][+][G], [2][P][+][G], or [4][P][+][G]. Enter the four throw escapes 3 times successfully.

[6-B] CPU Jeffry guards your throw-guaranteed move and will either attack or throw with [P][+][G] or [6][P][+][G]. After your attack is guarded, dodge and enter the two throw escapes 3 times successfully.

[6-C] Same as 6-B except with an added throw: [2][P][+][G]. Dodge and enter three throw escapes 3 times successfully.

[6-D] Same as 6-C except with an added throw: [4][P][+][G]. Dodge and enter four throw escapes 3 times successfully.

[6-E] CPU Jeffry guards your throw counterable move and will then attack or throw with [P][+][G] or [6][P][+][G]. Perform two throw escapes and guard successfully 3 times.

[6-F] Same as 6-E except you must dodge first. Perform a dodge, two throw escapes and guard successfully 3 times.

[6-G] Same as 6-F except with an added throw. Perform a dodge, three throw escapes and guard successfully 3 times.

    Tutorial

General note: In most cases, you can figure out the aim of the tutorial by watching the demonstrations. I highly recommend you do this at least once. If the demonstration doesn't help or isn't clear, then hopefully this translation can be your guide.

The Tutorial Menu that appears after every tutorial is as follows:
    - Repeat Current Tutorial
    - Tutorial Settings
    - Next Tutorial
    - Previous Tutorial
    - Exit to Tutorial Index
    - Exit to Main Menu

    The Tutorial Settings menu:
    - Time Limit in secs: 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, 120, 180, 300, infinity
    - No. of times to complete: 1, 3, 5 10, 20, 50, infinity
    - Reset to Default
    - Apply setting to current tutorial
    - Exit to Top Menu

Note: the Tutorial Settings menu option only becomes available after you successfully complete the tutorial. This is useful if you want to come back later and have a long practice session on any particular tutorial. To simply cancel this menu, just press the triangle button.

    1. ATTACKS

    [1-A] Defeating the Guard
Guard High and Mid attacks with a standing guard. Guard low attacks with a crouching guard.
Hit CPU 5 times with a low attack if he's in a standing guard, or a mid attack if in a crouching guard.

    [1-B] Counter Hit
Interrupting your opponent's attack is called a Counter hit. Counter hits result in more damage and longer hit stun.
Interrupt CPU 5 times with any attack to produce a Counter hit.

    2. THROWS

    [2-A] High Throw
Perform a basic high throw with [P][+][G]. High throws can be avoided by crouching or attacking.
    Throw CPU 5 times.

    3. GUARD APPLICATION

    [3-A] How to Guard
Guard High and Mid attacks with a standing guard. Guard low attacks with a crouching guard. You can also avoid high attacks by crouching.
Guard or avoid CPU's attacks 5 times. CPU will attack in a High, Low, Mid cycle.

    [3-B] Application of Guard
Learning the hit levels of various character's combos is crucial to successful defense.
CPU Jacky will perform the [P][P][6][P][P][2][K] combo. The hit levels are H,H,M,H,L. Guard or avoid the CPU combo 3 times.

    4. INSTANT RECOVERY APPLICATION

    [4-A] How to Instantly Recover
Hit [P][+][K][+][G] for an In Place Recovery, and [8] or [2][P][+][K][+][G] for Side Roll Recovery.
Let the CPU knock you down and perform Instant Recovery 3 times.

    [4-B] Just Recovery
Instant Recovery performed with precise timing is called Just Recovery. Done successfully you won't hear a sound when you hit the ground. In some cases you can avoid a portion of damage associated with the ground hit.
CPU Wolf will Giant Swing you. Perform Just Recovery 3 times.

[4-C] Instant Recovery from Slam Attacks
Instant recovery requires precise timing. When done successfully you can avoid an otherwise guaranteed down attack.
CPU Akira will perform an air combo on you, where the last hit slams you into the ground. Instantly recover from this slam hit 3 times.

    5. RECOVERY

    [5-A] Recovery from Stagger Attacks
If you don't recover fast enough from a stagger, combos can be guaranteed to land on you.
Let CPU Jacky hit you with a kick that produces a stagger. Recover in time to guard the followup kick 3 times.

    [5-B] Recovery from Stagger Throws
If you don't recover fast enough from a throw stagger, combos can be guaranteed to land on you.
Let CPU Lau throw you with [4][2][P][+][G] which results in a stagger. Recover in time to guard the followup [4][6][P] 3 times.

    [5-C] Recovery from Knock Down
If you don't recover fast enough from a knock down, down attacks can hit you.
Let CPU Akira knock you down, then recover in time to avoid the big down attack.

    6. STAGGER ATTACKS

[6-A] How to Stagger with an Attack
Some mid attacks that don't knock down will stagger a crouching opponent.
Perform a mid attack that doesn't knock down on CPU when it is crouching 5 times.

    [6-B] Stagger Followups
If the opponent doesn't recover fast enough from a stagger, your followup attacks can hit.
Perform the displayed mid attack on the CPU and followup with a fast attack 5 times.

    7. FLOATING ATTACKS

    [7-A] How To Float
Perform a floating attack against the CPU 5 times.

    [7-B] Air Combos
You're given 1 minute to practice air combos. Perform a floating attack and followup with an air combo.

    8. DODGING

    [8-A] How to Dodge
Dodge with a tap [8] or [2]. You must release the joystick to neutral after the tap.
Dodge in any direction 3 times.

    [8-B] Dodging an Attack
If you dodge your opponent's attack, it will result in a fast dodge which recovers quicker.
Dodge the CPU's attacks 3 times.

    [8-C] Dodge Attacks
Dodge Attacks are performed by [8] or [2], [P][+][K][+][G].
When the CPU attacks you, perform a Dodge Attack successfully 3 times.

    [8-D] Dodging Half Circular Attacks
Half circular attacks can only be dodged in one direction. This is usually the opposite direction the attack is coming from.
CPU Jacky will perform [1][P]. Successfully dodge to his front side 5 times.

    9. DODGE APPLICATION

    [9-A] Dodging a Counter Attack
When your opponent guards your attack, they will usually have the advantage and so will attempt to counter attack in return. This is a good chance for you to dodge when you anticipate their counter attack.
Perform [3][K] which the CPU will guard, then dodge CPU's counter attack successfully 3 times.

[9-B] Following up a Successful Dodge
After a successful (fast) dodge, you have a chance to attack your opponent with an attack, a dodge attack or a throw.
Perform [3][K], dodge CPU's counter attack, then quickly attack (or throw) the CPU 3 times.

[9-C] Dodging in the middle of a combo
CPU Vanessa will perform the [6][P][P][K] combo. Guard the first two hits then dodge the third 3 times.

    10. ANTI-DODGING

    [10-A] Stopping the Dodge
Throwing or performing circular attacks can stop someone from dodging.
Guard CPU's attack then throw or perform a circular attack to stop the dodge 3 times.

    [10-B] Attacking the Dodge
If you delay your attack, you can attack someone out of their dodge. This is due to the fact that they started dodging before your attack, which results in a slow dodge. Your attack will track and hit them, resulting in a counter hit.
Guard CPU's attack then delay your attack to hit them out of the dodge 3 times.

    11. THROWS

    [11-A] Throwing from Guard
When you guard certain attacks that recover slow enough, a throw is guaranteed against the opponent.
Guard CPUs attack then immediately throw 3 times.

[11-B] Throw or Attack from Guard
After guarding, a throw is only guaranteed against certain moves. Some moves that recover quicker are best countered with a fast attack.
Select CPU character. Guard CPU's attack then throw slow recovering moves, otherwise counter attack with [2][P] 5 times.

    [11-C] Offensive Throwing
When you counter hit with a fast recovering attack, you have a good chance to throw the opponent.
Perform [P] or [2][P] then immediately throw 3 times.

    12. ANTI-THROW

    [12-A] Stopping Offensive Throws
When you are counter hit the opponent has a good chance to throw you. You can stop a throw attempt with an attack.
Let CPU hit you, and then attack back to stop the throw 5 times.

    13. THROW ESCAPE

    [13-A] Throw Escape
When you have your throw counterable move guarded, the opponent has a guaranteed throw opportunity against you. The only way to stop the throw is to enter a throw escape.
Perform displayed move and CPU will guard and then attempt to throw you with [P][+][G]. Perform the [P][+][G] throw escape successfully 3 times.

    [13-B] Multiple Throw Escape
During the recovery of your guarded attack you can enter multiple throw escapes to increase your chances of escaping the opponent's throw.
Perform the displayed attack which is throw-counterable. CPU Jeffry will randomly perform [P][+][G], [6][P][+][G] or [2][P][+][G] throw after guarding your attack. Escape the throw by entering three throw escapes successfully 5 times.

    14. HOW TO AVOID TWO-CHOICE SITUATIONS

    [14-A] Dodge - Throw Escape
When you are disadvantaged, your opponent may counter attack you with a fast mid, in which case you should standing guard. But if instead they perform a throw, then your standing guard will be vulnerable to it. A simple way to avoid these two choices is to apply the dodge - throw escape technique. During the recovery of your attack, simply enter a dodge quickly followed by a throw escape. If they chose to attack, you'll successfully dodge it. If they chose to throw, you'll hopefully escape it.
The CPU will guard your throw-counterable attack. Enter a dodge and [P][+][G] throw escape successfully 5 times.

    [14-B] Throw Escape - Guard
In situations where the opponent counter attacks you with a circular attack, dodging would be useless. In this case you can apply the Throw Escape - Guard technique. This allows you to enter a throw escape but remain guarding after your move recovers, rather than producing a throw miss animation had the opponent attacked instead. This way you'll either escape the throw or guard the attack.
The CPU will guard your throw-counterable attack. Enter a [P][+][G] throw escape and quickly release [P] but leave [G] held to either escape the throw or guard the attack.

    [14-C] Dodge - Throw Escape - Guard
You can also apply the above technique by incorporating a dodge first. This way you'll dodge any linear attacks but remain guarding should they have attempted a combo, and also escape any potential throw. Don't forget though, that dodging is useless against circular attacks.
The CPU will guard your attack. Enter a dodge, quickly followed by a [P][+][G] throw escape, then release [P] and remain holding [G]. Do this successfully 5 times.

    15. ANTI SPECIAL THROW

    [15-A] Stopping Offensive Low Throws
Some characters attack can force you into a crouch which can make you vulnerable to Low Throws. Similar to high throws, You can stop a low throw attempt with any attack.
Let CPU Jeffry hit you which forces you to crouch. Stop the Low Throw with an attack successfully 5 times.

    [15-B] Low Throw Escape
The rules for escaping high throws also apply to low throws.
Let CPU Jeffy hit you into a crouch. Enter the [3][P][+][K][+][G] low throw escape successfully 5 times.

    [15-C] Multiple Low Throw Escape
Let CPU Jeffy hit you into a crouch. Enter the [2][6][P][+][K][+][G], [3][P][+][K][+][G] and [2][P][+][K][+][G] low throw escapes, and escape the low throw successfully 5 times.

    [15-D] Stopping High Catch Throws
Most Catch Throws can't be escaped like regular throws can, so you must use an attack to stop them.
    Stop Vanessa's [6][6][P][+][K] High Catch Throw with a [2][P] successfully 3 times.

    [15-E] Stopping Low Catch Throws
    Same as above.
Let Vanessa's [2][P][+][K] hit you into a crouch. Stop the low catch throw with an attack.

    16. STOPPING A RUSH

    [16-A] Counter Attacking
Use fast attacks like [P] and [2][P] to stop someone rushing at you. [2][P] is particularly useful against high attacks. You must be wary of your opponent delaying their attacks which can sometimes defeat your attempted counter [P] or [2][P].
CPU Sarah will rush at you with attacks. Try to guard then counter with [P], [2][P] or throw (if it's guaranteed) successfully 5 times.

    [16-B] Combo Breaking
Some combos that have a high attack in them can be stopped with a low attack.
CPU Lau will perform [6][P][P] combo against you. Guard the first (mid) hit then interrupt the second (high) hit with a [2][P] successfully 5 times.

    [16-C] Disadvantaged after Guarding
Some attacks will leave you disadvantaged after you guarded it, so any attempts you try at counter attacking will probably fail. In these situations its better to back away or remain defensive.
CPU Lei Fei will perform [DM][P][P][+][K] which will leave you disadvantaged after you guard it. He will then immediately followup with [9][K][+][G] which you should avoid (back dash, back crouch dash or dodge) and then counter with an attack 5 times.

    17. ANTI [2][P]

    [17-A] After Guarding [2][P]
A [2][P] is a common reaction by your opponent after they've guarded your attack. If you guard their [2][P] you have the advantage and any fast attack you immediately follow with will usually beat any of their attacks.
Perform an attack against the CPU which it will guard then counter with [2][P] followed by some mid attack. After you guard the [2][P] immediately enter a fast mid attack which should counter hit the opponent. Do this successfully 3 times.

    18. DEFENDING AFTER INSTANT RECOVERY

[18-A] Defending Attacks after Instant Recovery
When you perform Instant Recovery, your opponent has the advantage and can time an attack to hit you as soon as you've recovered. In this situation, you can dodge or guard their attack as soon as you recover. One thing to note is that your opponent's attacks will track you if you are holding [G] during the Side Roll Recovery. So try not to hold [G] until you've finally recovered.
Let CPU Wolf knock you down with [4][6][P][+][K] then perform instant recovery. Guard or Dodge CPU Wolf's followup attack successfully 3 times.

[18-B] Stopping Throws after Instant Recovery
If your opponent anticipates that you'll dodge or guard after the instant recovery, he may choose to throw you instead. To stop the throw you can simply attack. Note that if you perform a Side Roll Recovery you recover in a crouching position and are vulnerable to low throws.
Let CPU Wolf knock you down with [4][6][P][+][K] then perform instant recovery. Attack Wolf to interrupt his throw successfully 5 times.

[18-C] Attacks and Throws after Instant Recovery
Knowing that your opponent can either attack or throw you after the instant recovery, you can employ this technique to defend against both. Essentially, it's the same as the tutorial that teaches you how to deal with two-choice situations, and that is to use the Dodge - Throw Escape technique.
Let CPU Wolf knock you down with [4][6][P][+][K] then perform instant recovery. When you recover, enter a dodge and single [P][+][G] throw escape. Successfully escape all of Wolf's attempts 3 times.

    19. ATTACKING INSTANT RECOVERY

    [19-A] Attacking after Instant Recovery
When your opponent performs instant recovery, you should take advantage of the situation. Time your attack to hit them as soon as they recover and you'll beat any attack they may attempt.
Knock down CPU Wolf who'll then perform instant recovery. As soon as he recovers he will try to attack, so time your attack to counter hit him successfully 5 times.

    [19-B] Throwing after Instant Recovery
When your opponent starts dodging after their instant recovery expecting you to attack them, you can take advantage of this and attempt to throw them instead.
Knock down CPU Wolf who'll then perform instant recovery. As soon as he recovers he'll dodge so throw him immediately. Do this successfully 5 times.

[19-C] Beating Dodge - Throw Escape after Instant Recovery
So faced with a two-choice situation, your opponent might use the Dodge - Throw Escape technique. To defeat this technique, simply delay your attack which will force a slow dodge and score a counter hit.
Knock down CPU Sarah who'll then perfom instant recovery. When she recovers she'll perform a Dodge - Throw Escape. Delay your attack to hit her out of the dodge successfully 5 times.

[19-D] Face Down Head Towards Knockdown 1
After Head and Stomach Crumble combos, the opponent is left face down and head towards. If they perform In-Place Recovery, they recover crouching and you can stagger them with a mid attack.
Initial hit will automatically be a counter hit. Perform a head or stomach crumble attack against CPU Sarah and follow with a combo (or at least one more attack). Sarah will then instantly recover in place. Time your attack so it hits her as soon as she recovers successfully 5 times.

[19-E] Face Down Head Towards Knockdown 2
As above, except if opponent tries Side-Roll Recovery, your mid attack and back stagger them.
Initial hit will automatically be a counter hit. Perform a head or stomach crumble attack against CPU Sarah and follow with a combo (or at least one more attack). Sarah will then instantly recover with a side roll. Time your mid attack so it hits her as soon as she recovers, and produce a back stagger successfully 5 times.

    20. ATTACKING NON-INSTANT RECOVERY

    [20-A] Down Attack
If your opponent does not perform instant recovery, then you have a chance to hit them with a down attack.
Knock CPU Lion down then hit him with a down attack 3 times.

    [20-B] Low Risk Down Attack
This is a safe method of inputting big down attacks. The idea is to wait for your opponent to hit the ground first, and then enter and hold [7_][P]. If they performed instant recovery, then you'll jump away to safety. But if they didn't, then you'll perform a big down attack.
Knock CPU Lion down 5 times and wait until he hits the ground before you enter the low risk down attack. Do this successfully 5 times.

    [20-C] Bound Combos
Another method of punishing opponents who don't perform instant recovery is with Bound Combos. These are combos that connect on the opponent just after they've hit the ground and before they've settled. If you're too slow, the hit won't register so you must time the attack to hit them as they're bouncing off the ground.
Knock down CPU Kage and perform a Bound Combo of 20pts damage in 3 minutes.

    21. OKIZEME (Attacking the Rising Opponent)

    [21-A] Attack the Rising Opponent
When your opponent rises normally from a knock down, you can take advantage of the situation by attacking first.
Knock down CPU Sarah and then time your attack so that it hits just as she finishes rising. Do this successfully 3 times.

    [21-B] Avoiding Rising Attacks
When your opponent is knocked down, they may choose to perform a rising attack as they're getting up. The rising attack can be either mid or low. If you can guard their rising attack, or bait them to miss entirely, you will have a big advantage.
Knock down CPU Sarah and try to bait her into a rising attack. If you back dash away to make it miss, quickly attack her back or dash in and throw. Or if you guard it, attempt a throw. Do this successfully 5 times.

    [21-C] Crushing Rising Attacks
Rising attack damage is 20pts. If two attacks hit simultaneously, the attack with the larger damage will win. So you can use any of your attacks that do 21 pts damage or more to crush a rising attack.
Knock down CPU Sarah and try to crush her rising attack with the suggested move at the bottom of the screen. Do this successfully 3 times.

    22. RISING ATTACK TACTICS

[22-A] Stopping Attacks as you Rise
When you rise from a knock down, your opponent may try to attack you immediately. However you can perform a rising attack to interrupt their attack.
Let CPU Jacky knock you down, and then rise normally and perform a rising attack to interrupt Jacky's attack. Do this successfully 5 times.

    [22-B] Defeating Rising Crush
Your opponent may attempt to crush your rising attack, or bait you into missing a rising attack. In this situation you should try to vary your timing and delay your attacks from time to time. Watch your opponent carefully and try to react accordingly.
Let CPU Jacky knock you down, and then rise normally. Jacky will either attempt to crush your rising attack, in which case you should interrupt him with a delayed rising kick. Or he will perform a back step and make your rising attack miss, in which case you should not perform a rising attack, and instead interrupt him with a regular attack. Interrupt Jacky's attempts at attacking you successfully 5 times.

    23. WALL ATTACKS

    [23-A] Wall Stagger Type 1
Attacks that cause 21pts damage or more will produce a stagger when used to hit an opponent into a wall. If the opponent doesn't recover from this stagger, then some followup hits will be guaranteed. If you anticipate your opponent to recover quickly and guard, then you can try to throw instead.
Use the suggested attack against CPU Aoi to produce a wall stagger. Quickly followup with a combo to total 50pts damage or more in 2 minutes.

    [23-B] Wall Stagger Type 2
Attacks that cause 20pts damage or less, produces smaller stagger when used to hit an opponent into a wall. This stagger cannot be recovered from though no followup attacks are guaranteed since it's so short. However, you can use the advantage and attempt to throw as soon as they recover. Catch throws, for the characters that have them, are also effective here.
Hit CPU Aoi with an attack of 21pts damage or less ([P] is ideal) to produce a small wall stagger. Immediately throw, or catch throw, Aoi before she attempts an attack successfully 5 times.

    [23-C] Wall Hit Knock Down
When an opponent is knocked down and hits the wall perpendicular, they cannot Instantly Recover. You can use this fact to land a guaranteed down attack.
Knock CPU Aoi into the wall and hit her with a down attack 5 times.

    [23-D] Wall Combos
With the right distancing, you can use the air hits off a wall to connect air combos.
Knock CPU Aoi into the wall and perform an air combo totalling 70pts damage in 3 minutes.
