Thanks for posting that, wow, I wouldn't be surprised if the mob got involved and tried to make some loot off of the PS3 launch stateside... or have they already been involved, hmm? (rubs chin, clicks on submit, gets off work, goes to the gym, works out, gets out from the gym and calls up a chick he's been trying to bang for like a week now, thinks about what he's going to do to her once... oh shit, I'm still here, out)

The reason is because Sony is not fully finished with the backwards compatibility yet.

They actually put in the Emotion Engine and GS from the PS2 in the launch batch of PS3's to enable the backwards compatibility.

The newer batches won't be that way when Sony finished the emulation for PS2 games. I think by that time the number of problematic ps2 games will go down drastically.

Being one day away from launch here in the US, I'm interested to see that no one I know is talking about this thing. Maybe I'm out of the loop w/ gamers somewhat, but out of my customers and gamer friends, I don't know anyone who's getting a PS3 (or a Wii for that matter). The only people I even hear talking about it are more Audio/Videophile people who're interested in what the BluRay can do.

Is anyone here getting a PS3? I saw my first one at a game shop the other day, bigger than I imagined it. It was running Motorstorm, which looked very nice graphically.

I'm surprised, there seemed to be much more public hype/anticipation for the launches of the PS2 and Xbox. Even the 360's launch had more buzz w/ the general public. Anyone else feeling this, or is it just me? I though people would be freaking out about now.

yeah PS3's price point is whats turning a lot of people off. We were all prepared for 200 - even 400 dollars, but when the general public caught hold of 600 dollars it was like oh... well i guess I will get that next year. As for the Wii, many of us have all but given up on nintendo consoles. THe only reason 360 really caught a buzz was the fact that it was the first of the next gens. I think if it came out alongside the PS3 it would have gotten smooshed. This is all my view on it tho. I could be wrong.

I think so too. I feel like everybody is thinking just like me "That price will be dropping a couple of hundred dollars in about half a year".
Plus I'm pretty happy with what's out now. FFXII, Bully, SC3, SFanthology, Kingdom Hearts 2, RE4, Tekken 5, Scarface, PoP3, etc.

lol We all know sony is losing money to produce, but do you honestly think the people at large care? Christmas was already expensive enough, but a system that is 300$ overpriced just isnt flying in the hearts of normal families (families who would normally buy playstations for christmas). People don't and shouldnt care how much it cost to make, just how much it cost to buy.

Like many other people in the nation, I will be waiting till mid to late next year to be picking up my own.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.... PS3 is freaking hyped. All the bestbuys and circuit cities are packed days before the release day.

It's all over the news, commercials are all over the place, ads are all over the streets.... I drive by a big bill board when I go out.

    Yeah.... PS3 is super hyped.

We are not feeling it because I think everyone here knows that it's just another game system, another launch, same shit until VF5... we are just jaded.

Well whatever as far as I can tell the machine is quality built & it's like ps2 when it came out but with less of the complains from people who'd actually owned it. I'm glad I'd got mine which is the 60 gig jp version. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now I just need to save up for that 1080p HDTV LCD. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In Europe the hype is yet to begin, but then, hypes are never that big over here. The funniest thing so far was one of the biggest toy-store chains in the country (well, they're international, so its actually some 4 or 5 countries I believe) had their magazines printed and sent already, announcing pre-orders for the PS3 to be fulfilled in november. That was probably the first real bit of commercialisation, and we all know how that one turned out.

From the five guys I know leaning to buy a console (including myself) three have already decided the PS3 will be their weapon of choice. One for MGS and DMC, one for the J-RPG's and me for the fighting games. The other is a massive Nintendo fan and the last is a more casual gamer with broad interests who knows at least one of his friends will already get a PS3...

I'm wondering whether VF5 will be up and running on European hardware to serve as a launch title over here or not. I'm guessing yes, but it could just the same be a negative. It took them four months to release VF4E on PAL systems after the NA release.

Ha, well built is a joke Smurf. The demo at Best Buy crashed an infinite amout of times. It was funny to see the employee come out muttering "fucking sony man..."

was the other way round, the eu/pal version came out first, then the us/ntsc version came out with the nasty greatest hits cover.

They keep stuff in enclosed plastic areas. Serves them right.

I think the reason why the hype is a bit calm is that there is very little chance to get one right now. I've seen a few people walk in work with one. I went to buy a ski mask instead.

I honestly dont understand why people are surprised by this at all.

It was a simlar story with the lunch of the nintendo famicom not to mention the psp just a few years back.
The poor and homeless are shamelessly exploited what else would one expect?

As for the PS3's sales in my country(australia) i garuntee it will flop big time since it is actualy priced here at over $1000. Nobody with a good gead on their shoulders will pay that amount not even for VF5.

Either they drop the price dramaticly or this could well be sonys biggest ever loss.

And gears of war looks realy good to me /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
