Hey folks I came across this site that talked about some of the psychological benefits of playing videogames and it's really informative. It doesn't hurt that it cited Viruta Fighter and other fighting games in the article. It's http://www.randolphsdesk.tk/ check it out!

[spoiler alert] it's actually my site, but it is an interesting read. Hope you guys enjoy it.

I like what I see in this great work. This really has to be studied more as you said hopefully this helps to encourage people to do that.

    Nice work there.

I'd like to add that I'd been having trouble teaching my toddler son directions, but then I sat him down with a simple 2D game and he got the hang of it real fast. He's already managed to complete the first 2 levels of Sonic. [IMG]

I think we're still only scraping the surface of what games can be used for. Once mainstream society gets past the sensationalist crap of "Oh it's violent and terrible!", we'll see games take on a whole new role.

What worries and baffles me is the excuse many parents and narrow minded solicitors use to justify child violence by using videogames as the scapegoat. We all know there is no evidence (from a reliable trustworthy source) to prove videogames make a child or an adult more violent.

I played the most violent of games when I was kid and it never affected me in any way shape or form.

In fact I wholeheartedly agree with your post El_Twelve children can learn new skills from games. Their brains are like dry sponges eager to learn new things.

I'm glad you guys dug the article. One day way in the future I'd like to do a study with how fighting game 'pro' players might be different than novice players, or follow the cognitive changes people go through as they become more advanced players. I think there is a ton of research that could be done, the key is getting public opinion to change a bit so studies like that can get grant funding.

In other news I posted a new article today about how the unconscious an conscious mind can speak to one another through music. It's of a pretty different vein than the videogame article, but hey I think some people here might be able to relate to what I'm talkn' about today.
