well FIOS is finally available in my area, but I have questions for those that have it already.

    What is the best package?
For online gaming is 20/20 necessary?
Is internet access only available in wireless format?
Does wireless or wired connection matter when your talking about a fiber optic connection?

i have 10/2 package for $55/mo. i tried 20/20 ($70/mo) for 3 months. although uploading vids and photos are lightning fast, i found that i didn't really need to pay extra for it, so i reverted back to 10/2 which was my original plan. also, with 10/2, majority of online matches are playable. you should see how its like when i play vs rodney who also has FIOS. kick ass!

ummmm. u can access the internet via cat5 cable (standard ethernet cable) or wireless. dunno exactly what youre askin here. lastly, a wired connection will ALWAYS take precedence over wireless. in other words, if you're playing games, play WIRED!

    Nice i get 30mb up/5mb down for 59$ a month plus a phoneline.

Regardless of what you get going up or down it changes depending on distance and the online coding of video games still only allow about 792kb max uploads to host the best connection possible. The Silly shit is most video games are optimized to allow but so much because it what the game can handle in packet transfer to maintain a decent experience. Probably when Downloads and Uploads reach a full GB lag with be eliminated but somehow a new problem would occur.

20MB up / 5MB down for $57 a month for me with no phone, extras, etc. Overall there is DEFINITELY a huge difference in terms of internet browsing, downloading, uploading and gaming. The sad part is kind of what SDS said, most games probably aren't optimized to handle it and regardless of how much UP / DOWN you go for you will still be victim to your opponents speed. Honestly I think most people in the US probably have a DSL connection with an average UP speed of 348 or 512 which really holds this service back from kicking major ass. When you do connect with someone who is also running FIOS or something really decent you really feel like just playing only this person forever. You might actually glance around the room to check and see if they are sitting right next to you.

The router they set you up with can be connected to via wired / wireless. The choice is up to you, but wired of course is BETTER. I don't know what types of speeds they are offering you and for what price, but 10/2 or 20/5 if more than enough for what's going on today. Anything more is a waste of money right now. I originally wanted the 20/20, but they don't offer that in my area at the moment. I really just wanted it to be greedy and see if I could hopefully connect with more Japanese players. I'm really glad they didn't offer it as the extra $20 would have been a major waste of money since the majority of the people I ended up playing with anyway simply do not have service on the same level or even near to FIOS.

In NYC they have a great package deal going on right now for $94.95/9(not sure of the pennies LOL) which includes 20/5, phone and cable. I think it's a great deal especially if you can lock it in for 1-2(hopefully the latter) years. What are they offering in your neck of the woods?

    Sorry I have a question~
So no matter how fast I have for upload( for example,10MB), it only allow the max 792kb for playing video game?? If that is true, on the other hand, does that also mean I only need 792kb for download speed?(Because the opponent only provides 792kb data)

Sorry about if my question doesn't make sence, I'm just curious how the online service works.
Btw, how about the connection between you guys and Asian players?? My DSL is 6mb/768kb, and usually I only have one bar with most JP players, but sometimes I can have two bars. I don't know should I trust these pin or not coz sometimes I feel one bar is even better than two.....

I really am no expert in terms of how the data is sent / received. Hopefully someone like Myke who has experience in these types of things or at least knows more about it than me can chime in and elaborate a little.

As for Asian players I only get 1-2 bars with just a select FEW. Remember I am much further away to them than you are so I bet even with 1-2 bars you matches probably play out a hell of a lot smoother than mines.

It would be pretty cool if everyone had at least a 2MB upload here in the states. I think online matches, especially ranking matches would be far more exciting.

I'm kind of curious now what type of upload speeds the majority of people on here are using. Download speed never seems to be the issue these days as DSL / Cable has gotten a lot better. It always seems that everyone is in the 348-512 area like I said in my previous post unless they have a premium DSL / Cable service like Dennis. My old service was roughly 1.5MB down and 512mb up when ever I ran a speed test...

This comes up pretty much every time this topic is mentioned . . .

    Ping != Bandwith

Ping is what matters for gaming. Put it this way, it doesn't matter how wide the pipe is, it matters how long it takes a single packet (your lowpunch) to get from start (your computer) to end (opponents computer).

Beyond a certain minimal level, bandwith doesn't matter unless you're trying to download pr0nz at the same time you're playing games. A game can't fill the pipe on its own; there's not much information necessary to say "i lowpunched at 0:32".
