Question about Goh.

Is goh a bad char. to use? i have hardly seen anybody use him. ive seen a couple of brad users but no goh users yet. I usually use lion, but when i go back to japan for the summer im thinking about using goh. is that a bad idea?

 

Goh's a great character to use. I don't think he's top tier or bottom tier.

If you're having trouble whupping ass with him, here are some tools to keep in mind:

1. a LOT of high damage throws. If you can bust out HCF or 270 or motions really quickly and easily, you can do 60-80 pts of damage with your throws.

2. A really nasty combo starter. While I'm not straight on the conditions, if you land an interrupt with the f+K knee, you can combo it with b+P+K (float) -> P -> f+P+K -> ground throw (escapeable/TRable combo) or b+P+K -> P -> P -> shoulder ram (less damage, but guaranteed). I also recently saw knee -> b,f+P+K (crumples) -> low punch -> K. Any of these combos is nearly half life.

3. A really strong canned elbow combo. The characters with strong elbow combos tend to do pretty well (jacky, lau) and goh is no exception. Force the opponent into a throw/low throw/MC guessing game by whoring the crap out of f+P,P.

4. b,f+K.. in version B it causes a crumple after a MC, which is great. Free pounce/combo for a safe, long range poke.

5. shoulder ram... catch the opponent by surprise with it, and you'll do 3-45 points of damage and also stagger them heavily, which you can then follow with anything from another shrm, to a df+K+G hit throw, to a regular throw.

Hope that helps. If for no other reason, pick goh because his animations are neat and because arashi took him to the finals of a tournament. Don't worry about whether or not you'll kick ass. Leave that to the other 4329832 akira/jacky/lau players.
