Ranked: Run it back?

Just curious as to how people do things around here. How do you feel about it personally?

I've run into quite a few of the higher ranked players (in title anyway) and I've gotten a nice mix. I'm sure there are plenty of reason for both sides so we will just put a disclaimer on it. *Under Good Online Conditions* Do you run it back? Why or Why not. As for me (I try to run 2 outta 3) just because I want to fight others as well.

If the connection is okay and the match was fun I'll keep playing.

if the match was fun/ you beat me n i don't like how you did it, you lost but stood a chance - I run it back

Not good enough (i like to educate ppl in player/rooms, not ranked), bad connection, cable puller i already caught on camera, latent jacky player, Happy Friend - Go away

jk happy friend - but when i play you, gentlemanthief, flash, punk ass blaze players, and tony familia i put on super raging tryhard mode, i end up yelling at everyone in my house win or lose so i try to keep the matches to a minimal with you guys

I play Happy Friend once a day, everyday. He will never run anything back no matter what the result is. I still think he's a hella cool guy and I hope he won't rip me up for my pat-talk

    Depends on the match-up.

If it was a fun game, yea I'll run it back. Win or lose. Heck I'll even invite you to a player match so we don't end up killing each others' rank in the process.

But, bad connection, BM player, or someone who just totally stomped me in a way that I couldn't learn anything from the lose...nah, one and done...

I don't do a runback usually, but I am fine if people do it with me. It's hard to grasp the nature of it, because sometimes people will do it because the games were really good. While other times, they switch their characters up to their "Real" characters or are low rank people who have something to prove and lose every time and then send silly messages about how much I suck.

That's why I don't run it back. I don't want some guy to think I am being petty or think I am better than them if I lose, although I am totally cool if other people want a rematch with me.

@Shidosha - Well even if I might want a rematch, I don't want to be responsible for you beating your wife so you do what you gotta do.

@Cozby - That isn't really a set policy of mine or anything... I don't see you that much on Live. Btw, wtf did they do to Akira? He's alpha in a way that I can't remember a VF char ever being in the past. AM2 gave him a third testicle so he could lord it over the rest of the cast.

I'll be on later tonight with my brand new Fighting Edge Stick (woot).

I usually dont even think about "running it back". I just fight who wants to fight me. As many times as they want.
Sometimes I get stubborn, like today agains 0despair0. I had to fight him until I finally beat him. It didnt take that long, like 3 matches, but it kept me from going to bed for a little longer than i had planned.

I just challenge people several times in a row, period. If they beat me, I want to figure them out. If I won (and I'm close to a promotion) I'll go for a double-dip. I figure that I'll always float back up to the rank I'm supposed to be regardless, and trying to figure out ways to beat that opponent that looked like a brick wall to me is the best way to get better.

I will never turn down a challenge if someone else picks me unless I hate their style of play or connection. I try to enjoy ranked by fighting as many separate people within my ranking level as I can most of the time personally. If I am close to ranking I don't care I will do what I do either way. I might knowingly pick people more than once but not very often.

Lmfao. What? This is the first time I've read you talk like this. You rage??
Well at least you don't ragequit so props on that.
Your Taka is good and dude, I suck so I don't know how I'm giving you problems when I hardly understand Taka... or any other char, lol.

On topic: I'm a firm believer in running it back. I think it's cowardly to not give any opponent the chance for a rematch. The way that FS is designed it's kinda built for blow outs. All chars now have combos that can take half your life so 2 or 3 mistakes and the round is over. So even if I ran through whoever, I run it back at least once.
I don't take losses personally and I play ranked cuz that's where everybody else is at but I don't care about losing whatever title they're giving out to give me a false sense of achievement.

I think right now my rank is Refrigid Raider... or some shit like that... so come get it if you want it, lols.

I do the same things. If I'm salty and I think I should be able to beat someone, I'll play them and try to figure them out. If I think someone's free, I'll try to grind that rank up a little bit.

Sometimes though I only have the same person showing up in my match lists and I have to keep trying to match them. Some of yall bastards won't play me when me match up the first time...

    What's up with that? [IMG]

No problem with running it back in my opinion, just not getting stalked. Some people will literally hunt you for matches and not let you play anyone else. If someone declines 2-3 times....let it be, maybe try another day. Also, you get people who are much much lower rank that want a quick highway to rank up and harass you to play, even if they loose. Always great fighting someone better, thats how you learn, but don't harass people.

You were the only person above 5th dan on my list for a while the other night and you wouldn't play me. Two levels ahead isn't a huge jump, and besides, if you won you'd probably get a bigger boost, right?

I feel I'm not ready to risk a drop of a rank all the time, so I think before I challenge. Playing very good players all the time in ranked feels not optimal, but is always exhilarating with acceptable lag. So I think before I challenge and really prefer to challenge first. As an added bonus it also makes my (weaker) 2P side play stronger.

I personally (and just personally) feel that declining a challenge for other reasons bar expected bad lag is for insecure people. "Harden the fuck up". If people want you to be their stepping stone eat your damn pride and shit it on their face. Battle points, win rankings and consecutive wins are reflective tools only, the real goal is to make the most out of gameplay experience provided.

I always play for fun and enjoy the game most by using almost all characters, trying to outwit opponents by a wide array of ways. Losing for me is just an inevitable consequence of trying to optimally enjoy playing a great game, IMHO.

I like what you say here I play for fun too playing as many different skilled people as I can avoiding multiple matches against 1 foe unless I play in a room or player battle. I never once picked a person because I wanted to rank up and they happen to be there to be picked, it just happened that way oh well I am complaining about the results. [IMG] [IMG]

I try to run it back but always get turned down unless I won the last game.

I would be lying if I said that I don't get salty playing VF at times (playing FS seriously has shown the gap of skill between me and other stronger players.......ugh! really need more practice!!) But I will always try and run it back........ Unless the connection is bad or I get trolled hard for my poor performance (Bad I know but I feel I need that time to get myself together otherwise I'll just end up getting rattled from the word go and not play to my full potential)

Much respect goes to Methylidene (Destroyer) for always giving me the run backs in our games even if he does whoop me till my arse is blue!!! I always feel like I take something away from them and try to use it to up my game with each match.

I may not be a noob when it comes to VF but I'll put my hands up when it comes to playing it more seriously and competitively so having high ranking players who are happy to play the more lower ranked ones (I'm a Hunter and cant shake out of it! [IMG] ) and always letting me have a run back, for me, helps alot! [IMG]

*Nods* it's fine, if they do it with me at least. I prefer to host and accept. I'm glad that there was one recognizable person who stopped my undefeated streak today after gaining Hunter title, that kept challenging me in rank in the past. It's finally done.

I will play anyone as many times as they want, win or lose. Rank really doesn't matter, especially if you're picking and choosing who you play to keep your rank artificially inflated.

I play anyone who joins me, but won't run back if it was really laggy.
