If its your first stick (you may not like playing on stick at all, happens with some players) I'd buy a relatively cheap one. Maybe a pre owned Madcatz Special Edition or Tournament Edition stick.

My first stick was a Hori EX2 then a Madcatz SE and now I'm getting a custom made dual mod (yay)

I would stay away (my opinion) from the SF4 Arcade Fight Stick. it's what I bought and while the stick seems great the buttons fail so often I thought I'd lose my mind. I'm light on my buttons so the high fail rate on them was way more than was reasonable.

Oh really? my SE stick seemed ok to me (although recently its beginning to fail on me) I will say though my hori ex2 which I bought 2nd hand lasted a very long time.

The normal SF stick is not really recommandable, I had one and my buttons stoped working after only 2 weeks. The only positive thing is that the buttons can be easily changed.
Tournament Edition on the other hand is imo just great. I´ve got mine since release (Round 1) and it stills works like new.

This is what I've learned. The base and joystick part are great. the buttons are just awful. and when they fail they don't always fail 100% so at the beginning you can't understand what is going on right away. At least I didn't. haha.

I can only recommend the SF4 TE, i've had bad experiences with the Hori EX2 and from what i've read the SF4 Arcade stick is of similar build quality to the EX2.

You should be able to find a TE for pretty cheap if you look around.

Must just be me then, I must be pretty gentle compared to others when using sticks.

The fightstick has stock madcatz buttons doesn't it? You could buy that and swap them out for sanwas and you're good to go. If you keep the buttons as they are you're playing the lottery. The EX2 is a piece of shit. I'll say it continuously. DO NOT BUY IT.

Pretty safe bet is any stick with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts, even if it's made by a crappy company like Hori or madcatz. It'll last longer, as well as feel better and more accurate when you're using it.

Just cause I can and to help a lil more, i'll second what others have said.

The EX2 is a bad choice for long term use. Trust me on this brotha. Your buttons will start failing on you eventually after a few months of use (depending on how much you use it a I guess). To save yourself from rage, frustration and many back to back bs moments, do not buy the Hori EX2 stick.

If you really want to try and learn and become a better player, I would go for on of the more expensive ones since they will last you much longer.

Man, everyone hating on the EX2, I used it and was ok with it until the buttons knackered.

Using an EX2 is like training under heavy gravity with weighted boots, afterwards you will be super strong (pro tip).

Pfffffffft! LOL! That's why mans hating! Buttons knacker. Mans hate.

Most products that have a record of excellent service fail to bring the hate. If the EX2 continued to function for a reasonable amount of time for everyone who owned one, there would be less to no hate.

It was all Robin Hood until the buttons cream crackered on me. But it served it's purpose, wasn't expecting it to last me donkey's anyway. [IMG]
