Okay I'm going to sound really stupid, but just what the heck is a sabaki and how the heck are they done? I'm trying to get the last of the dunce items and the sabaki thing has got me stumped. I scoured the game itself and I cannot find a single reference to sabaki.

/versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif Now i sound like a noob for not knowing something I assume is basic common knowledge

the easiest way to do this is to do it in versus mode, since there's no way to ensure the computer will do enough sabakis.

and every character has their own sabaki moves, look in the movelist section. goh's most common is his [P]+[K], leifei has his qcf[P]+[K].

sabaki's are essentially those moves that deflect attacks (although i haven't played this game so long and for some reason i get the feeling that deflecting attacks is something else).

Impatient aren't we? This site doesn't have an overflow of visitors; you prolly won't get help until within a few hours, sometimes a full day. Anyway, I'll try to assist you. Don't feel too bad, the game doesn't give a full description of moves that deflect and doesn't mention the term "sabaki"

Sabakis are explained and detailed on this page

    Sabaki, Reversal, Inashi chart

You might need to highlight the black bar at the top of the chart to see the different attack types of what can be reversed or deflected.

Not every character has a sabaki. Brad, Lau, Jacky and Jeffry have no deflecting moves.

I'm just curious as to which 'type' Jacky's and Vanessa's neutral punch deflecting move falls into, or whether they have a 'type' of their own....
    Anyone?

I'd say inashi since they're similar to Goh's P+K which is an inashi.

I would call Jacky's a reversal since there is a gauranteed follow-up, but it is an inashi w/o [P].

Goh doesn't have an inashi tho, that's a sabaki. The only chars who have true inashis are Aoi and Pai.

Kage also has a random "ill-defined" move (his neutral jumonji stance) as well as Vanessa and Jacky. "Ill-defined" in the sense that it doesn't fit into any category of reversal, sabaki or inashi.

    Check the link posted above.

What about Lei-Fei's neutral IN stance? I'd classify his and Kage's as reversals for they inflict guaranteed damage when they catch an attack.

Whereas in the case of Jacky and Vanessa, their neutral postion doesn't inflict damage by itself, they need a followup action.

I suck with the timing so now I'm stuck with Lion's and Lei's dunce items being equiped. Goh and Sarah's were easy enough to get and get rid of though. Thanks for your help /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah...but Lei Fei's neutral IN stance is classified in the link you posted as a reversal.

    [ QUOTE ]
Reversal, when successful, will stop an incoming attack and automatically hit back, usually inflicting damage and resulting in a knockdown. However, there are some cases where the reversal inflicts no damage and doesn't knock down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Off the top of my head, neutral Jumonji doesn't knock down does it? Does it do damage? Not sure myself, I think you have this long complicated animation where your char gets disorientated and stumbles around. Actually, yeah it does do damage but does it knock down in the same sense as other reversals? I don't know.

Lei Fei's neutral IN stance will always knock down an opponent if they use the wrong attacks against.

All reversals require A timing (instant) bar Lei Fei's which is E. Again Kage's neutral jumonji is in a class of it's own " - " in the timing for it.

I was just making a point about Jacky, Vanessa and Kage having moves which are described by " - " in the move type box as they don't strictly fall into classes of R, I, S(a) or S(r).

I dunno, it's all just semantics I guess.
