San Diego VF4 Scene Revival?

I'm in SD, around the San Diego State University area, and I desperately need some REAL people to fight with.

I know that there is a (broken) EVO machine at Mission Valley Mall, but that one pretty much blows and the Tilt guy that I talked to kind of laughed me off when I asked him if they'll fix it...

Anyway, are there any San Diego Players lurking on this board? I've read some old posts but I suppose they're all outdated now. I'm a Vanessa player!

 

there's this guy in SD who used to play named Mike(92123), but I think he's dead or something. No one knows what happened to him.

Oh, and there's a guy who's here sometimes called "Sol-Fizz".

Our group in LA plays about once a week, and Mike used to join us, but he's gone now.

I wish I could go up to LA but my car has seen weeks and weeks of driving up to Arcade Infinity and it's starting to make a lot of noises....

Still if you guys have little gatherings I wouldn't mind hanging out at AI or something... too bad I can't play for crap on a stick =)

 

Yeah... I think Spot is right. I think he was so upset that he lost to Wolf's flying leap of faith that he decided to retire from the VF scene. Or he could be married now and have a kid. My guess his kid will look and dress like Lion. Probably name him Lion also, but who knows he's maybe dead to...?

KTallGuy: Yes, there are fairly regular get togethers. It would be great if you could make it up here for them.

You car just needs some TLC. The easiest thing for a car to do is make sustained-speed trips.

Also, if your place is big enough to hold 10 to 15 people comfortably, the group can bring extra setups (TV, PS2, Game, Controllers) to your place.

Buy a stick (of course you can just use someone else's at the get togethers).

Oh, and if you guys keep me posted on your gatherings I'll see if I can make it. It's best if it's on weekends and in the early-late afternoon. I work M-F.

Of course I'm busy with lots of things but I'll do my best. Where do you guys generally meet?

I play Vanessa as stated above, and I got to Champion rank after some concentrated playing efforts last week, but I play on and off ... I'd consider myself ok... I am working on EDTEG but I can only do it in training, I don't recognize the GT moves yet.

 

yeah just show up to a L.A. meet...All of us are pretty cool, but the Mafia group seem to have a couple of screws loose. Main thing is don't get frustrated when youc om because more than likely your going to get your ass kicked. Just hang with it and the more meets you attend the better . We all sucked in the beginning. Well maybe not Spotlite, but most of us anyways. Plus Spotlite and Andy could probably help you with your Vanessa skills.

p.s. don't forget the HUGE tourney at CAL POLY next month.

 

I'm 90% sure I'll get my ass kicked... and when I get there the other 10% will fill in shortly... but It'll be nice to play human competition.

Do you guys go to AI? Where do you go? I know SHGL has been dead... and that was a while back too.

Do you guys go to Cal Poly University Student Union? That's where EVO2003 is right? I'm kind of afraid to go to a tournament of that size or even compete... that's a bit too crazy for me. Where exactly do you guys go when you play casually? That way I can just show up on some weekend.

 

Usually we play VF4 Evo on PS2 at someone's place. We can easily have 3 to 4 setups running. Lately (as far as I know) we've been getting together in the Pomona area - two of the regulars have places there. Sometimes we meet at my house (Riverside) - but there's too much construction going there right now... furniture is in wierd places, etc. We have meet in the Los Angeles area as well, but I haven't heard much about that lately.

 

Ok... cool. Maybe we can set something up one of these days. I'm free on this Saturday... but next week I'm flying to NorCal so ...

I'll be in SD specifically near UCSD starting tonight to sunday. Im staying at a friends place, Mike claims his place is small. Maybe you can host the meet? Maybe even over a couple of days making the most of my time there. Im up for VF anytime during the night. Mike suggested something late saturday night though.

I wouldn't mind but I AM in an apartment and I have roommates. However as long as we're not really LOUD... it should be ok. I live right off the 94 freeway. However my place isn't huge either... whatever you guys want is cool =P

I say we go to Misson Valley and threaten them if they didn't fix the VFEVO machine.

 

Chanchai's Random Maybe of the Season (Summer '03):

I'm thinking about going to watch Evo2k3 this summer. Especially if Chibita goes (I've only heard of it as a rumor so far--no real idea). But... I'm very uncertain about going.

Anyways, if I go to Evo2k3, more likely than not, I'll actually be staying in San Diego for around a week since I have a place and vehicle there.

If that happens, would love to meet up. Would definitely be nice to meet up with Mike90210, though VF is nowhere near the top of our priorities anymore like it used to be. Would also love to chill with others including the LA guys (great bunch of guys).
