today I went to Akibara to try out VF EVO. it was the first time for me now that the game is released everywhere. and what did I saw 12 cabintes linked. 3 rounds 45 seconds. a dream nothing wrong with that. then I walk a little but furter and what do I see.a single player cabinet. yes I thought good plan. then I saw this plate on the arcade which said. 1 play 200 yen!!!!! what da fuck. freakky mothaf#$kers. 200 yen for 1 player game is rediculous. also I think on the 1 player arcade cabinet you get different challenges. so overall I was pretty pissed about this. anyway VF evo is as cool as ever. and I was there at 10 am and it was already so busy there, my new character is Brad. I thought I give this guy a testdrive. and I have to say I like this guy.

he fights great against guys like Jacky, AOi, Lau Chan. only Sarah is a bitch to fight against, the reach of Brat is limited so you have to get in real close for damage. still it rocks. because he has a very nice lowkick, and a lowkick sweep. the only problem is need to know some follow up combos. does anybody know if there is already a brad faq? or a movelist?

    thanks in advance

Dude you pay for the privilige of NOT being challenged so you can test new things out etcetera .
The linked machines becouse of versus play will bring in more money so the arcade operators will tro to offset the loses by asking more for the single player only machine .
Be glad they actually gave that option .

Gosh, be glad you have those arcades. I would love for the us to have them right now. You shouldn't be pissed at sega, you should be happy about them. they are bringing more depth and strategy into what is already a fine fighting game. It's now deeper and more polished with the two new characters and array of new moves.

Sega's got nothing to do with it, arcade owners can price whatever they choose... anywhere from 25 yen (?) to 500 yen or even free play.

Don't bash sega, bash the akibara arcade management. You can talk to them personally and complain, or at least talk to the people directly below them.

Yeah -- there's all other sorts of things to get pissed off at Sega for. They make the best games, hands down -- but really suck at just about everything else. From management to marketing. I guess the higher ups are smart enough to higher good programmers though.

But anyway, in akiraattacks defense -- I'll bet 10 to 1 he was at Sega HiTech Land, so technically he's allowed to be pissed at Sega.

This is really funny, people bash me ( not all ) that if there is a standalone cabinet that it must be automaticly be higher then an arcade cabinet linked. are you out of your mind??? what about a game of Tetris. should I also put it in 200 yen because that game is on a standalone cabinet and not linked to an other cabinet. what did you guys smoke today???

also the vf evo cabinets stand in Club Sega. so the arcade owner is sega.

ofcourse when Evo was beta testing I understand, but now that the game is available everywhere. it should be just 100 yen. it is typhical sega. what is next ,bringing out Virtua Fighter 4 Evo only for xbox???

sega their politics at the moment are just as worse as the Japanese goverment.

Excuse me, whats the price of a Tetris cabinet again ?
Or while were at it, hey lets price all those superdeluxe racing cabinet games the same as Tetris or 10 year old Neo games, after all screw the actual cost to the arcade operators, theyre single player games .
Oh and there is quite a difference between Japanese government and Sega, Sega is succeeding .

Well you lost me on the last part. While it is the owner of the game centers business, Sega is not succeeding. They've got a *LONG* way to go to get themselves out the hole they dug themselves in with the Dreamcast. VF4 alone isn't going to do it, unfortunately, although it's given everyone hope.

Sega is like the Japanese government -- a bunch of good ideas that in the end don't get them much of anywhere. I can't count how many times I've heard the word economical reform in my near 5 years here, and the yen has only gotten better, to be followed by more recession and unemployment in the following months. Sega said pretty much the same thing for the last few years, although they're starting to show good signs of improvement. I guess since they're not wasting millions on hardware production costs, it's not as hard to do as it was before.

Urmm Sega is OUT of the hole they were in .
They have over a billion dollars of CSK shares to waste if they want and Ohkawa while dying payed of most of Sega´s debts .
Sega has cash to burn so to speak right now .

    Got a news article link?
You know how big the whole they were in was? I don't think any company could get out of it in a year, unless another company bailed them out, which I suppose CSK could've done.

It wasnt another company that bailed em out, it was Ohkawa .
Just do a search on Sega´s bussuines dealings of the last two years, you might be surprised of the results .
Meanwhile ill go look for theyre last financial statements, I should still have em somewhere .

Would definitely love to see them. Now I know their stock (at least Sega of Japan) has gone up in the last year or year and a half, but they lost SERIOUS money on the Dreamcast. I have no clue how Sega of America is doing.

When you say Ohkawa, do you mean Ogawa -- the head of promotions that was demoted when the DC bombed?

This statement is from BEFORE the launch of the Cune and XBox in PAL teritories, VF4 also wasnt released in those regions back in March .

Worldwide sales for Sega software have been incredibly brisk for a number of titles .
Sonic Adventure and Super Monkeyball are million sellers on de Cube .
Sonic Advance is a million seller on de GBA .
    VF4 is a million seller .
The multiformat games are doing verry well too .
The sports games have carved themselves a niche chunk of the market at EA´s expense ( theyre not close to EA sales tough ) and are million sellers .
Crazy Taxi sold over a million units on DC in the US alone .
Total sales worldwide acros all formats for Crazy Taxi1 alone are around 4 MILLION UNITS.
Sega is more or less the ONLY arcade game distributor left, they do the distribution for Namco, Tecmo, Taito, Capcom etcetera etcetera.
Iff you do arcade games you have but a single option these days and that is go trough Sega.

Sega IS bouncing back, look further then youre immediate surroundings and try to look at the bigger picture and you will see that theyre doing great at the moment .

Mind you, all I care about is that they continue to give me the games I wanna play.
Nothing else matters much to me personnaly .

    Isao Ohkawa, self made bussuinesman/entrepeneur.
He founded CSK, used to be a close friend of Bill and Melinda Gates with whom he shared several charities, the guy spend billions of his personal capital on asorted charities like the Ohkawa foundation.
When he found out he had cancer he wanted to turn Sega into a profitable company before cancer killed him.
While working to achieve that he died of a art attack late last year.
He did however lay the groundwork for Sega´s recovery and handed over most of his personal shares in CSK ( the company he founded ) to Sega.
