just started using a joystick with v4evo.
the character i use is Akira.
do you guys use the R1 R2/ L1 L2 buttons?
or is this a bit lame and use the proper buttons

I'd say stick to just using P, K, G. Especially if you ever plan to play in the arcade etc.

Having said that if you're just a recereational VFer and if you think using the other buttons would help, then go ahead and just have fun with it.

    don't worry about it

arcade buttons are easier than pad anyway, the stick is the hard part ;]

i played pad for like 3 years with all my fighting games and can do any input in vf easy (button wise, my stick skills are still pretty newb)

lol I like your response Creed it gives me courage, I've been playing with the ps2 controller for a while and Ive noticed my friend playing and all he does is use those buttons (he has no knowledge of the game) at first it frustrated me then I tried it...

It really would help for throw escapes and quick stance change ups, but it almost seems like starting from scratch..

had a go today in practise mode just using the PKG buttons.
i had no problems pulling of the moves apart from one or two combos.
this beening down to my joystick buttons being a little cramped
my joystick is the Hori fighting stick psx.
and dont think i will invest in a vf4 evo joystick cause i am on a tight budget.
but i still find the game more satisfying using the stick rather than a pad

Yeah, imo the purpose of playing with an arcade stick is to rememble (as close as possible) the feeling of playing at an actual arcade machines.

It kinda defeats the purpose of using the "shoulder" buttons instead of the traditional P K G or the arcade machines of VF.

If you need to get used to the sitck, go into command training from both the first and second player sides, and complete the entire list with your character of choice.

Once that is done, go into free training and try to do every single combo you can think of, from both the 1P and 2P sides.

Once you do these, you should most definately have a feel for the stick. Practice, practice, practice, that's all you can really /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

yes it took me 18 minutes to get thru my command training lol(experimenting alot), but im trying, the ps2 stick is definitely too cramped for it, but if I lay it on the floor and play with it like a keyboard it seems to help a little, thx for the advice guys

If you have joystick, than you must enjoy yourself,
because joystick is much better than pad.Don't use R1,R2....
    Juist [G] [P] [K]

I have got one form Hori (officel).

The probleem is training, that all you need to do!!
    everyday (more than half hour).

if you want play with Akira, you must use joystick, use joystick make you much easier.

Ok, .don't forget to training /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

just an update about using the PKG
now i found a most comfortable finger placement i am pulling off the moves a lot more consistant
i use the first 3 fingers after the thumb placed over the PKG i am finding this most appropriate.
before i found my fingers were moving all over the buttons and was failing to pull off most of the moves.
now with the fingers placed on the buttons and when needed i can push any off the required buttons with no problems.

are there any other tips for using a joystick?
