Shoutbox Shakedown 4! (Reinvented)

Due to the positive response to the last Shakedown we're
reformatting. Shakedown will now be 3 out of 5 matches = 1 set.
1 set = 1 point. Everyone will play everyone in the list
for 1 set only! You must write down everyone in the list and
keep track of your own win/loss ratio to make things smoother.
After you tally up everyone you put your accumulated points AND
LOSSES. In this thread. Of course a loss = 0 points.

Add all participants to your friends list! This way you can keep
track of who's playing who with more ease. We ran into a problem
last time with people not being able to find people. In order to
play you MUST add people to your friends list.

It helps to also be on the shoutbox but it's not required, just
makes it easier to see who's free to play.

    Where? You're computer!
    When? Every Sunday 8 PM!

Any concerns? Email me or SHOUT IT OUT!

    ^This is a great idea^

These impromptu tournaments are completely awesome. You can feel that little pressure that gives you a rush and makes the games so fun and exciting. If we do this every week it will become real popular and we will have very cool tournaments every week!

I thought the competition was really good and strong too.

feeling was mutual here too, I'm really glad I finally got in one of the shakedowns. Hands down one of the best ideas since the shoutbox was invented.

It really gives a feeling of playing at an arcade because you never fight the same guy twice in a row. It's like when I'd go to CTF to play T5 and there would be a line of people to play. Except here we have no line, but still get the good competition and a variety of characters. Getting to fight good players of a range of cast members is great and something I don't get a chance to do very often.

Well for me being a product of the golden age of arcades, the arcade "feel" is exactly what I wanted to try and reinvent. Generally people online stick to playing those who they deem "worthy" or friends, which is completely understandable. However
with the shakedown we get to play people we don't normally play but
    with one catch.

Chances are if they take the time to make the shakedown they are
at least trying to learn, know how to play, or are looking for
quality competition. As people become regulars, you get some
familiar situations but varied experiences much like the arcade
    scene.

Anyway spread the word, if people keep it up it should be
self managing and more importantly fun for everyone. And like
    Tricky said, NO LINES!

    Quick Request.

A little more follow up on what happens in these little tourney's. I can't make them, timing, but i'd like to know more about how things went, who thought what of who and that sort of thing. Individual's personal opinions on how it went are always welcome. thanks guys

Well so far the 8 PM has got the most participants, and I see the most people on. A weekday shakedown "should" be technically better except for me that is. I can't get on weekdays starting next week until after 9 PM. As it stands it stays where it is.

I'm going to work on making a graph showcasing players win loss
and ratios. Sadly it won't be character specific unless we locked
players to characters during the shakedown and I don't want to do
that. I'm afraid because of the nature of the shakedown you're
going to have to look for "Good games" and other talk in the
"Good Games" thread most likely. If I get good results from
people in the new format we'll keep track of this puppy may
be the best you're going to get.

Hehe maybe we should sweeten the pot and whoever has the best
record at the end of the quarter wins some loot? Like 10 bucks
per participant in a paypal account.

Personally I don't like money to be involve with this tourney mainly because it's online. Other than that I would love to continue participating as much as I can.

It was just an idea, it doesn't even have to involve everybody.
Some people can play for loot, others can play for shits
and giggles. Either way it will make the money players play that
much harder. The money will in no way change the winner/losers.
Just whoever wins the most that put money "IN" the pot will be
    eligible for the pot.

Win/Win if you ask me. If you're interested let me know via PM.
I've done this with my boys before and it was a riot. We picked
out a bunch of players and bet to see who could get the most
wins vs them. It made me play harder anyway.

What can I say I'm goal oriented /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

LET ME REPEAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY IN SHOUTBOX SHAKDEDOWN.
(If you want to do a little wager just PM me)

this is more like a weekly Ranbat than a Tourney...
love the idea n maybe one day ill be able to show the heck up

Yip that's exactly what it is. Sure someone wins and someone loses but it's not like people are really "preparing" so too speak or even anticipating it. Its more like hey some guys are going to play
each other. The fact that we're having a winner is just an added bonus.

Think back in the day arcade someone beats the shit out of everyone else generally, but it's not a tourney.
