1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

So... What's with SEGA?

Sorry ahead of time if this is a duplicate topic. I know it's already widely known that Sega has done a lot of stupid things in the past, present and probably foreseeable future. But here I kind of want to hear your honest thoughts on why Sega treats all of it's non-Japanese players like this. We already know "SEGA is stupid dur hur!" but why? Why are they so paranoid to speak to us? To disclose any information about anything VF related to us? Is it fear that they may jeopardize their arcade revenue?

I watched this video and saw one of the top rated comments and it continues to boggle my mind how much of a disconnect Sega has with it's fans. EVERY company! SNK, Capcom, Namco and even the Aksys has at least some contact with their fanbase. Us? We had to write over 500 messages (or was it pages?) just to get their attention to tell us nothing.

I haven't given up hope on a Final Showdown port but I've long since lost hope with Sega making good decisions. We are literally in the middle of a fighting game revival and they've failed to capitalize on it. Again I know this has been discussed many many times but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

    Mind bleach stat!

@Truesonic, I don't know. I can't see how what Sega are doing makes sense from a business prospective in the short or long run. I've just condemned them to the label of 'asshats' and have moved on to different games.

That toilet game is a metaphor for Sega as a whole.

They are turning into a corporation and stereotyping there markets, between regions saying x type of games will work better here as oppossed to there. Well they've always been a corporation, but a lot of the other corporations are going back to a grass roots community feel good company. Trust me you'll see Darkstalkers whatever come out next year. The only good I saw come out of E3 was that was that saturn final fight style beat em up forget the name at the moment.

Guardian Heroes is a Treasure game. Treasure are also bringing Radiant Silvergun to XBL.

Its Treasure, not Sega, we have to thank for bringing these Saturn classics to modern gamers.

For those who don't already know, Sega's "merger" with Sammy in 2004 was more like a hostile takeover by Sammy. Quite a few of Sega's staff actually walked out over it.

Sammy of course is a pachinko company, and from the looks of it, no one there has much of a passion for non-gambling games.

Why did they take over Sega in the first place then? Sega's darker side. Go to the top level of most Club Sega's in Japan and you'll find games like this - http://www.segastarhorse.com

Remember the tokens that most arcades used to have? Sega makes a fair deal of machines that use these tokens in a way extremely similar to gambling... only it's not really gambling because they're not using real money.

Sammy has always been about gambling machines first, other stuff later. Also, because they mainly concentrate on pachinko machines which mainly concentrate in Japan, they don't have a very wide world view. They think of Japan market first, and overseas is an afterthought. Knowing that pachinko companies tend to have Yakuza connections, I'm not surprised at this very traditional mentality.

Have a look at Sega's official website at http://sega.jp
How many of the featured games have we seen outside Japan?

However, most sensible Japanese companies have already realised that you can't just sell within Japan anymore. Sega either catches on eventually, or another company will buy them out and give people what they want. *cough*Namco*cough*
