Shun's sabaki [1][P][K]...i've done it before, but any stratagies on where to use it, since it has such a small window...and where can i get a faq on understanding that - 1 advantage when you block such and such an attack...you know that whole thing. /versus/images/icons/confused.gif /versus/images/icons/grin.gif /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

A FAQ on frame advantage? First off, read the system section in general VF4 FAQ (the big one), you can find it on gamefaqs.com.

    FRAMES:
If you block a move that has eg. -5 frames on [G], it means your character is 5 frames ahead of opponent. Thus your [P] with 12 frames of execution becomes a 7 frame move if you execute it right away. As there are no moves faster than 7 frames (except canned string followups), you can [P] safely. It's not guaranteed though... that'd require a move with at least -12 frames on [G] - general rule: frame advantage must equal execution time for a move to be guaranteed. Same with advantage on normal hit and major counter (MC), when you're getting hit by opponent's move. If there's a +x in the movelist, it means opponent has the advantage after executing such art, sometimes even on [G] - thus his/her moves' execution times become effectively shorter frame-wise. Hope that helped.

    I don't think that's a Sabaki -- I've never sabaki'ed w/ it, and I've played Shun a lot.
The only Sabaki I can think of of Shun's is
    [2][P]+[K]+[G][P][P]

Well, it is a Sabaki. The timing for it is weird, some where around the middle-to-end of the animation and it definitely is a Sabaki. It actually works against a wide range of attacks.

Check Shun's Ver.C Command List on this site for the details.

Which part's the sabaki? The punch or the kick? Or both? Can't believe I never noticed it.

We are talking about the back-push, sweep? If a sabaki is
any move that has priority over a lot of other character moves,
that might be the case, but I thought it was only because of
where the elbow hits and the fact that Shun is low. But I can't
remember hearing any kind of scraping sound to indicate a sabaki.
Is this only in a certain situation, certain timing between the push
and whatever the opp. is throwing out there?

Apparantly so, although it's news to me. Also, even though it looks like a back/shoulder attack, it's a punch - or atleast has some punch qualities. Wolf can reverse in it.

db+P+K is the ugly turn away, then turn towards with two whirly punches move. It continues into a canned thrust punch that looks like a violent version of his basic standing jab. The db+PK itself looks like it should hit twice, but only hits once.

Now on the sabaki question, I tested it vs. jacky's puntkick and it is definitely a sabaki, with the record scratch noise and everything. However it only sabaki's very late, as shun turns back towards you with the whirly punches. It's a cute move though - if the opponent sees it and reacts by attacking, they probably will get sabaki'd, hit, and turned around. Unless their reflexes kick ass.

Wait a minute. Which move of Shun's is the sabaki now, the
d/b P, K which is the shoulder-elbow slam followed with the
slow sweep, or the d/b P+K which is the evade chop? I
thought Myke was clarifying that the backpush K is the sabaki.

Even though jherb wrote [1][P][K], I assumed he was talking about [1][P]+[K] since he mentioned the Sabaki.

    [1][P]+[K] is definitely the Sabaki.

Okay -- now we're on the same page. IF people bitch at me about not learning the names of moves (however wrong they may be) then I can bitch about horrible syntax -- especially since syntax is more universal.
