Anybody picked up this game? I've been waiting forever for a home version and it looks pretty good. The only reason I stopped playing the arcade version is because the only arcade I know that had it, took it out a while ago. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I honestly think Spikeout is the best 3D beat-em-up game so far. Sega coulda changed the main characters and called it Streets of Rage 3D and no one would have been the wiser. It's probably the best and closest thing you'll get to a 3D Streets of Rage.

I hear there's some kind of limited production run of the game in the US. I'm looking for the Japanese version here in Japan and I haven't seen it yet. Trust me, this game is pure fun. 4 player coop over Xbox live should be badass too.

Anyway, if anybody has the game, let me know how it is. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is the game I wanted an Xbox for. What was the wait, 2-3 years when they announced it? /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I think it comes out in the U.S. on the 30th. Really looking forward to it. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looking forward to this one too. Why is it that for every polished arcade port we have to endure 100 shit releases and a 5 year delay? Outrun 2 ported to Xbox was like a freak event in the natural order of things.

Well, wasn't Spikeout on Model 3? We all know how easy it is to port Model 3. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Steph, are you still on Xbox Live?

I got my copy today. I'm about to pop it in and try it out.

Honey Dijon, the name rings a bell. I'll keep a lookout thanks.

My house days are limited now, this new club in town called Crobar is catering to Morillo and S-man and I dont like the vibe at all the times I've gone to see them. The people are not there to dance and the DJ's play this "big room" sound that tuns me off. I even passed on hearing Carl Cox on St. Patrick's Day because he was playing this venue. I only go out to a once a month party that Danny Krivit plays.

One char in the game has a number of Akira's moves! Awesome! Check out the first three movies on 2005.03.28 from the official jpn site: http://spikeout.sega.jp/jpn/movie/
I gotta get my hands on this game now...

There's one boss in the game that uses SPoD, DLC, shrm, elbow->dbpm (damn that's cheating!), SJK named Sheng Long (or Cheng Long). You must defeat him in order to stand a chance.

Nice vid. The people playing were decent. They were kicking ass and taking names which makes the game so fun. The main attraction of this game for me is the fact you can roll-your-own combos and come up with some crazy stuff. The coolest part of comboing IMO is being able to stick the lvl4 charge move in at the end and blasting the minion across the screen.

Also, if you didn't know, Rent-a-Hero No.1 on DC and Xbox is built on a more simplified version of Spikeout. You can do pretty much the same exact combos from Spikeout but you don't get the moves until later in the game.

Why did they release it on X-box though?

Looks great fun and I'm sure to pick it up, but what's with some of the animation? Very ropey indeed and not up to usual Sega standards. Watch when the characters go into walk or run cycles....ugh.

It's Sega's standards from '98-'99. Essentially, all the animation, attacks, bosses, etc are the same as the original arcade version. I haven't played the xbox version yet, but from what I've seen from various videos, it's a remake with some extra chars of the arcade and not a sequel. I hear there might be more stages downloadable via xbox live, but no word yet.

I'd have to say its a half-sequel. It starts off with 4 original characters . You unlock the old characters by playing story mode I believe, that's how I got Linda and Tenshin. You unlock bosses by playing Battle Street mode by defeating them without them touching you (that includes everyone in the team) or share a game who is playing a boss. Bosses aren't so great in the game because their moves are quite limited; they have no charge meter and can only use special attacks when getting hit. The bonus is they get a special attack for each foe they put down.

Only the first two stages are identical to the arcade that I can recall. Also some of the stages have alternate routes. If they were in the arcade then I had no clue of them. There is no downloadable content. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

so the game is more of a cosmetic update rather than a totally revamped game then?

HAHA!!!!! Dude, we were playing last night! I'm ChessmastaShag. You entered a game I hosted. You were playing Jackal right? I remember your gamertag thinking, "That's a cool name/versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif" Friend request will be sent tonight.

Have you heard of the alternate route on stage 2-2 after you beat Victor (the training dummy). Some boards have more than one gate and this one leads to a mall where I hear you can get new costumes and stuff. I haven't played it yet but going to check it out tonight.
