Hey guys, I'm starting this thread to discuss one thing: AKIRA's STUN PALM OF DOOM (aka /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif). More importantly, when and how to use it in fights. I love the move so much and have tried hard to master it. I'm just not pulling it off consistently. I use the Hori Arcade Stick.

Are there any specific hand positions or tips to pulling off the SPOD with consistency? Additionally, when is best time to use it? Are there any moves/staggers in Akira's arsenal that can guarantee it as a follow up?

    Thanks!

I miss FT's SPOD where it was half circular. Now it VF5, you have to really condition(make them eat lots of throws) them to crouch to hit it. A strong player can see a SPOD coming and react in time to stand and guard. It takes a long 20 frames to execute.

There's no moves/staggers that can guarantee it but if a opponent is lazy to struggle out of a stagger(eg. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) you might as well do Yoho combos which are more damaging.

The first 2 hit has to be pretty fast. I normally do the first 2 string(/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif), check if its guarded just in case i need to apply defensive techniques, then do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. Many people do the whole string too fast and the CPU will not register the last /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif part.

I've found that when you do the SPoD, you should input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif instead of just one movement. This doubles your chances of pulling it off and gives me a 100% success rate.

Sometimes I do pull off the move too fast and only end up with the body check part. That sucks... But by doubling your input, you double your chances of finishing it successfully.

Michishio, that sounds like a good advice although I don't think I personally suffer the "too quick input" thing

The best times to SPOD are after you block low moves that leave your opponent down more than 20 frames, such as lau's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif etc. It looks hot and if you do it with the right timing they can't avoid it cause they're stuck in a ducking animation. Back dash into SPoD is another great technique. Frankly in almost any situation you have better options, but who can argue with the brutality the SPoD offers?

Oh also back in evo if you sabaki'd a low punch with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif you could get a guaranteed SPoD, but I don't know if it works anymore....

Oh also it's great after wall staggers. If you can CH with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif in a corner and then SPoD and KNEE you can crush something like 133 damage. Sorry for all the posts I just get excited when I talk about SPoDs...

    Edit:
    Quoted from Chinny:
"If you get the maximum damage allowed from on a normal hit, you'll end up taking 102 pts. after the SPOD.

If you get the maximum damage allowed from on a counter hit, you'll end up taking 119 pts. after the SPOD.

If the SPOD hits the opponent against a wall, you can go for standing , Knee, or Bodycheck for additional damage before they're able to techroll.

You can end up getting 138+ damage in return if the Bodycheck is deep enough, but then you're also open to being mC'd if the Bodycheck doesn't K.O. and they techroll afterwards.. Imo, it's definitely well worth it if you're playing against someone who struggles at breaking staggers quick enough. Otherwise it's a risk vs. reward. Cause if the SPOD is blocked then you're at a -13 disadvantage and open to some punishment."

    So there you have it.

Yoho combo does more damage unless opponent's back to a wall.

Me too and I think the Yoho looks ugly as sin, it's so not Hakkyoku Ken. Man, I REALLY wish /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif could still float...

I started using Akira recently so I went retro and learned his moves from VF1 and I am currently at VF2 trying desperately to do the SPoD.

    In VF2, the SPoD.
    1. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,
    2. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    3. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

I can get the first 2 consistently. How do you execute the third move. It seems that after the 2nd move, the position is at /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif

    1. Which is easier to perform /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif for the third move.

    2. How do you adjust the joystick from the 2nd move to the 3rd
    move?

    Do you ROLL it from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    or
    move from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif to neutral, then to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    2. Is it the same speed(almost instant) as between the 1st and 2nd move.

I'm still a Spod Virgin. Almost getting there though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It doesnt, the sabaki will no longer cause buttstumble on sabakied lowpunch, rather there is same animation for all sabakied attacks.

    You don't need the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif. Just go /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

SPoD is nothing for online-matches. My opinion.

I can confirm that with regard to VF2.1 (on saturn) and add that, unlike VF5, VF2 SPoD does not work with "maximum speed input". There is a specific timing which is not relly fast but apparently amkes things harder.

I am no longer a SPoD virgin. Thanks to Lau.

Its not as difficult as it seemed ten minutes ago. I got thrown off by the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif for the third move. Was just doing it the long way the whole time. For the third move, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is suffice. Its actually easy once you know the timing.

SPoD is the coolest combo I've seen in any Video Game. Feels much better to actually pull it off. Thanks for the advice. Awesome

i'm no longer a SPoD virgin online too /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
Pulled off some yesterday in player matches. I think it's not very efficient (too long execute time) but it's fun and brutal !
In fact on VF 5 the Input is not very hard, the hard part is too get it with consistency in an automatic way.
The funny thing is when I try to do it well, I often fail, and when I do it by reflex it works o_O
I have the smae problem with knee. I do it only by reflex now.

It's not really any harder online vs offline... KingofCarnage uses it quite well online to the point where he's basically automatic. If he hits you with the first part, the rest is sure to follow. It's ever so slightly harder to time than Goh's Basara for some reason, but it isn't so hard that you shouldn't try it.

I use the Basara more and more as I play. Once you get the input down well enough it's really worth it to use these moves. They do huge damage and have the ultimate "wow-that-was-a-cool-move" factor. When you hit your opponent with the SPoD or the Basara it demoralizes them a little and lets them know they are playing someone with good control and execution. Now they have to worry about the fact that you can hurt them bad any time they leave themselves open or guard while crouching. Sounds good to me!!!

But you cannot use it too often.
