Throwing?

I have a lot of difficulty throwing, this may be because I still do really understand frames or because I attempt at the wrong time. Often, my throws are rejected. For example, bf+ pg for akira.

    re... Rejected?

Like you get attacked out of it? Get a person to turtle up (block) and then try it. You need to apply guess work when throwing.

Bad inputs? Like getting P or G instead of a throw? Practice it.

In general, you can only throw the opponent when they are:
    -standing still
    -blocking high
    -recovering from an attack

    Your throw will fail if:
-opponent attacks (in which case you get hit out of your attempt: attacks beat throws)
-opponent escapes throw (aka, opponent reverses/counters the throw)
-your opponent is ducking when you do a throw (or standing up when you do a low throw)
    -you whiff your throw attempt

That might sound like throwing isn't all that good with everything that rejects it, but throws are still very very good in VF. Some basic situations where you could (or sometimes should) throw:
-you block a big attack and the throw is guaranteed
-you block an attack and your opponent is so used to you hitting them with mid attacks in such a situation that now you can throw them if they are blocking or trying to dodge
-when your opponent whiffs the final attack of a string and you can close in and throw
-when your opponent goes for a reversal (ex. b+P+K with Akira).
-when your opponent goes for a low throw

And to extend your throw game further, and do what others tend to do after reaching a certain point in their game.... Wherever you have conditioned your opponent to defend a potential mid attack, go for the throw. Some people might mention P(G) --> Throw (actually, poke --> throw). This type of tactic, works when opponent is either dumbfounded by the first punch that interrupted them or when the opponent is worried that you will do a mid attack after P(G). To open up the throw opportunity, you want to make sure that they are worried about a possible mid attack after the poke. Against the computer on high difficulty, it might not work (though it works on lower level AI opponents).

Hope that helps (at least I hope it provides some insight you were looking for).

Throws can also be escaped. Highlvl computer opponent in VF5 quest is likely to do this /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Also VF5 has throw clash, which might be what you mean by 'rejected'. That means that the opponent tried to attack into your throw attempt basically. (search the forums for throw clash to learn more when it happens)

Sounds like you're an idiot. Feel free to drink some Clorox.

To the OP: Throwing can be a headache, especially if trying to throw the AI, but consider too what kind of opponents you're fighting. Throws often work best when the opponent is evading or tech rolling, as 1. They won't be able to duck fast enough and 2. they generally may not think about inputs.

If you want to use throws consistently against most people, you may have to build either a very strong pressure game, or a very strong defense. Both of which are monumentally helpful to your throwing when you can incorporate them.

I actually find it much, much easier to throw the cpu than to attack.
