1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

To get a 360 VF5 setup or not = ?

Having only one local mate to play with on my PS3 (with two VSHGs), and thus greatly suffering from a lack of sparring partners, I'm kinda tempted to get a 360.

Thing is, I did get to test it for a couple games at a person's house at one point a whlie ago. It seemed A) slow, and B) laggy. Granted, this was vs. two random opponents.

This ruined the game greatly for me. Having more time to react and punish missed moves optimally seemed to make a lot of those moves a lot weaker. Also, succesfully using throws "offensively", and thus in general, seemed to be a lot harder. In general, gameplay seemed simplified and less intense, and sometwhat frustrating.

Still, I only did get to play very briefly, and it WAS vs. two random opponents who likely didn't have low pings. Maybe one can get used to it, and maybe one can find opponents with very low pings. So I guess my question is: is the 360 worth getting?

(I'd have to get the machine itself, the game and of course a good stick, so it's kind of a big waste if it turns out to be dissapointing).

Naturally, I'm hoping for VF5R and online play for the PS3 very mcuh! But that's out of my control.

Thanks for any advice and opinions!

PS. I'm interested in "serious" play - am not a "casual gamer" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

"Serious" play is in "competitive" is not to be done online.

If you are serious to the point of being competitive/going to tournaments. Then the 360 (ver.C) version is worth it as it is a superior version than the PS3 (ver. B): moves changed for balance, etc...

However, it may be too late now since everyone is just waiting and hoping for VF5:R.

And like Leonard mentioned, online is not conducive to serious play in the long-run. Once you really get into the game and learn the system down to the frame (consciously or otherwise) online will be practically useless or the very least be very annoying (can't punish anything, everything is safe).

I bought the XBOX 360 for vf5 R about a year ago and have not been disappointed. I agree with orion to an extent, but don't feel quite as strongly. I mean, given your scenario, you will definitely improve if you get online play. I say if you think it will be worth it, then to you it will probably be worth it. Also, lag spikes, so sometimes it makes moves better and sometimes worse, be prepared for some tremendous frustration to accompany your tremendous fun. Lag can be largely "invisible" though, until u learn the frames.

the only good thing about playing online is that you do get some form of human competition, and likewise are exposed to more playstyles.

yes, sometimes it feels like your character is moving in jello, and some moves that are normally -1 or -2 are safe, but ultimately it's a great way to practice.

just be sure to hit up dojo mode before and after so you can still land your combos where they count (offline).
