The newest issue of Famitsu reveals that Takara Tomy will be reviving the Toshinden series, this time on the Wii. The 3D fighter, best known for the fact that it was a 3D fighter, owes much of its success to there being no better alternative on the original PlayStation. Perhaps lightning will strike twice with the next Toshinden.

The fighter, which features both weapons-based and hand-to-hand combat is currently undated. Currently available character artwork indicates that all manner of anime and manga stereotype will be playable.

Toshiden.. I thought you were dead! Maybe it should have stayed that way? I only had the one for Saturn.. and it sucked.

No way. One of my classic favorite weapon based fighting game series (despite how utterly broken it was) on the Wii? They even have Tenchu. That's greedy.

Anyway, I do hope for a new Toshinden game, even if it happen to be a trilogy cast from all the previous titles with much improved gameplay. The concept is nice so I wouldn't mind them expanding that.

No it was different for it's time. Not to be confused with good.

"It was good for its time" is generally code for "I bought into a retarded hype machine over a decade ago and still can't admit I was dumb"

They had one game in the series that was decent- the one that got the arcade port. It had one massive problem though- the game had the highest damage of any game I can ever remember. It's probably the reason I didn't feel KOF95's damage was so bad.

Or "nostalgia distorts fact". Not very condescending I know, but maybe a bit more factual.

It was the first 3D weapon-based fighter. Why slam on it anyway? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I thought the graphics were great at the time for a home system but tohshinden was a very very shallow game. I worked for gamefan at the time and a bunch of us picked the game apart but didnt find much substance, unfortunately.

I learned graphic design when I was around 18 and got a job at GF when I was around 20. I've known Dave, the guy that started GF since I was about 14 and also worked at his import/retail store called Die Hard Gamers Club. Before I started working there, Dave and the other guys looked at me as the fighting game expert since I played alot of SF2 and some of most other fighters that came out around that time. They didnt know enough about those games to write previews or strategy guides so quite often they asked me if I was interested in doing it. Just kinda took off from there.

As for the money, I don't really know what it would be in todays dollars. In 95/96 when I started out there, I was making around 30k but I was living at home with my mom at the time so it was easy to save up cash. I had alot of fun working there and at gamers' republic but really wouldnt want to do it anymore.

Sorry about going off topic. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
