I searched for this but didn't come up with anything...

Is there a list with of all the characters winning poses along with the english translations for the taunt? Specifically Aoi, but if you know of other ones, please post'em.

click home, then click virtua fighter three on the left, then scroll down to the bottom. You'll see a bunch of guides down there. It's not gonna cover the new guys, but it's the closest you'll come.

GLC's VF4 general FAQ, which is now off-line but is taken over by another VFDC member, had the translations of all the non-English quotes. I actually copied down Sarah and Vanessa's English quotes, and transliterated Aoi and Pai's Japanese quotes into Ro-maji, but I translated only Pai's quotes into English in my VF4 Pai FAQ.

As usual, I ignored the male chara's quotes, English or Japanese.

I think Jacky needs an English translation as well. I have no idea what he's talking about half the time. How does someone handcuff lightning anyway? /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Time to use my (bad) Japanese knowledge!
Aoi's win quotes are as follows:

"Denaoshite okureyasu." (means something like "Please start over/try again.") Pressing G in replay gets you this in sitting pose, P gets you standing saying this.
The K quote is "keiko ni mo nara hen wa..." (I'm a little confused as to the meaning of this, it's along the lines of "If your training is also this strange/bad...")

She's a little bit difficult to translate because she speaks with a regional dialect (Kyoto area). I'm digging this info out of the Red Book.

I'm actually talking with some nice Japanese players now about how ridiculous the "handcuffed lighting" quote sounds in English. It seems that Japanese players understand its meaning as somewhat different than experienced English speakers would. (^^;;;) The Red Book Japanese translation is something more like "Did you see? My awesome lightning flash!"

Thanks for the Aoi info...I thought the "Denaoshite okureyasu" meant something like that. To me it even sounds like she's saying "Stay down please" in Engrish /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

alot of her win taunts...hmmm..me n my Japanese friends came to a conclusion that she's kinda giving shit to opponents /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

kinda like in VF3...where her win taunts basically says 'weak...soooooo weeeaaakkkkk'

] The K quote is "keiko ni mo nara hen wa..." (I'm a little
] confused as to the meaning of this, it's along the lines of "If
] your training is also this strange/bad...")

As you observed, Aoi speaks with a Kyouto accent. In typical Kansai accent, -masen (roughly "does not" or "is not" in standard Japanese (hyoujungo)) becomes -mahen. In this case, narahen in Kyouto accent is naranai or narimasen in standard Japanese. IMO, the -hen doesn't mean "strange" here.

Disclaimer: Correct me if I'm wrong. Back in January '97, I was bored. So, besides learning both the Hepburn style and Kunrei style of transliterating Japanese into Roomaji, I learnt some Kyouto and Oosaka accent by myself from limited resources.

A link would be nice...there are multiple faq per player and it's a pain to search through them all...

    Re: Aoi's family name

Out of curiosity I started looking around with JWPce to get a little more info on this.
The first kanji means "plum" (reading ume), while the 2 others form "koiji" as a name. The core meanings of those 2 kanji are small and path. So together it becoms small path (of) plums. The "of" here is the japanese attributive postposition "no". So either JWPce is missing a nanori (name reading) entry for "ume", or the no is simply inserted when reading the name making it "small path of plums" instead of "plum. small path".

Love that Jacky quote. I keep hearing it as "I done handcuffed lightning!"

Makes the actual saying much harder to pick out. "I've got hands of lightning!"
