    So I started playing @ VF4 on PS2.

Just got VF5 for 360. I've always played with a gamepad.. but im HORRIBLE with the 360. I can't seem to do half the moves in training.. ESP. any of the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif anymore. Did they change the timing on them? When i turn input display on its a mess. Is it just the terrible D-pad or did they change the way command input works?

also i never got super into the technical details of the game eg. Frame counts etc. But knew most of the intermediate stuff. Throw escapes counters etc. I just could never master fast/accurate enough input.

Tips? Get a joystick and relearn it from the ground up?

Yeah, you can give up using that 360 D-pad. I played with it for one night and the next morning I dished out and extra $65 for the stick. Just get it over with.

You know what guys, I got the Hori stick and it's alright, but I have never had a problem playing a fighter with a controller and the analog stick. Has anyone tried that? Of course we know the pad blows, but do you all really have issues with the stick?

    I agree.

Analogue stick all the way if you're going to be playing with the pad. Ditch the idea of using the d-pad!

If the left analogue stick isn't your thing, fork out for the arcade stick.

Crap.. Dont know if i wanna/can fork out for a stick.. Plus the time it would take to re-learn it. I tried it breifly for the PS2 but it was a crappy stick.. and I was plenty happy with the PS2 D-pad.

Edit: I don't know about L analog stick. Seems to slow.. And the Xbox d-pad is like hitting every direction at once.

I, personally, don't have a problem with the Xbox 360 Controller's D-Pad. While it isn't perfect by any means, I rather like it. I had a Logitech PS2 controller with a similar style D-Pad, and loved it for playing Soul Calibur II and III. I have been able to use the Xbox 360 controller quite well when playing Dead or Alive 4, and I've yet to have a problem with it when playing Virtua Fighter 5. So until I do, I won't waste money on a stick. Unless, of course, I find a good local arcade and then want to practice with an arcade setup.

Maybe, MAYBE Tekken 6 will prompt me to buy a PS3 stick (since I will also be able to use it for Soul Calibur IV). But for the Xbox 360, I think I'll stay with the controller for now.

Thats cool that it works for you, but even the "not-so-great" Hori stick will improve your inputs tenfold. I never thought I needed anything other than the analog stick, but a legit joystick is starting to show it's worth.

I might try and do that d-pad mod.. seems really easy.. but i feel like that wont fix the problem.. It seems to fix it not registering inputs.. but thats not the problem i have..

    I have a problem when i try and input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif or something..

    it registers like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif

Also while rolls should be easier on the 'connected' dpad (they were one thing i had problems with on PS2 D-pad). I can't pull off any of AOI's 180/360 grabs.. Even when training shows the input is relativly right.. it wont grab and i dunno why.. Maybe thats just something wrong with the general mechanics of my input not even the dpad.

    I see something like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif or w/e and it just wont grab.

I am in similiar situation davidd. I feel your pain. I am primarily a pad user.I am use to ps controllers mainly but the 360 controller is horrible on thed-pad and I am not good on the analog. I dont have a 360 yet but i am going to get one soon.

After feeling the 360 d-pad recently. I can see why u have problems with diagonals. Diagonals are just hard to press on that thing.

    1. You can try sanding the d-pad.
    http://www.ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/360dpadfix/360dpadfix.htm

    2. Buy a third party controller for 360.Perhaps with a better d-pad.

    3. Buy a joystick.

Me personally, I am about to do the unthinkable and actually buy my first joystick for this game when i get a 360. I always wanted to learn joystick but now i am practically force to now haha.

Yeah i tried learning a joystick on PS2 version. But A: i think the joystick sucked. B: my roomates / competition blew me out of the water and I didn't have the time/ desire to relearn everything to get back up to the level of play I'd been at.

I like the 360 controller for most things..

BUt the d-pad is horrible. i might go see if i can get a cheap madcatz and see how that works. or maybe even take apart the 360 d-pad and replace the plastic nub that sits on top of the rubber contacts as the rubber contacts are pretty standard I think.

Again the sanding i'll try just cause its easy. But from reading the tut. it sounds like that fixes issues where it gets jammed/stuck and doesnt press all the way down. Which isn't the problem I have (as far as i've seen) Mine just hits multiple directions at once.. etc..

edit: the macro buttons (eg /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif are n't as nice being on the triggers as the PS2 buttons.. and hitting anything other than P+G together with your thumb is hard so you really need the macro buttons on a pad controller

First off when playing VF to truly master it and have the best timing a Arcade Stick is recommended. I would never choose the Madcatz stick and hope you dont waste your money on it. A hori is the best to go or you could order one online straight from jpn. Using a D-Pad will not win you alot of matches trust me

Not to slag on anyone, but I really can't see spending the money on a controller ($65 US) for just one game. I'm not saying that the xbox pad/analog stick are that great, but you're turning a $60 game into a $125 game. That's really quite an investment, when you think about it.

It's a lot but it all depends on wether you think it's worth it. If it's just another game for you and nothing special then yea I guess it's not worth it.

But like with all games you have people who take a bit further. They love the game and want to play it the best way possible. Or they are newbies but intend to spend time trying to get good at the game. So they get a stick.

Just like PC gamers will buy expensive mouses and upgrade their PCs to be able to play certain games.

If you dont see the reason then you probably got the game just to have the game. But if your into competition and really into VF then you will no the investment is worth it. An arcade stick is the best way to go with VF but like I said only players who are wanting to become the best will make the investment

    Re: Trouble with 360 Ver.

I suggest trying a hori stick as i mentioned above.

But you can try the hori ex turbo 360 gamepad

From the review it got, they said the d-pad is pretty good with it.I read another review as well saying the d-pad is good. I am a pad user, and will probably buy this controller.

But I feel that it times for me to convert to joystick as well. So i will get the hori joystick too.
