Hey. I was wondering was it even worth it for a relatively new player to attempt to play VF competively? I ask this because I'm told, and I can see, that VF has a comparatively small scene in the U.S., and especially in my city. I'm a Guilty Gear player and I've always liked VF, but just now started thinking about getting serious in VF. I have a friend who is a respected Tekken player, a great King player, who has been trying to get me on the Tekken bandwagon for some time now. He plays VF5 at an exceptional level as well but says it isn't "worth it" because the scene is so small. I like VF over Tekken and I said I'd play this despite there being hardly a scene here. Is this realistic? I mean, I played 4Evo sparingly and I've only played VF5 once for a few hours. But if I can see good enough reason, I can easily practice the game like I do GG. Also, how will I know if I'm actually good if I....have no one to play against. How will I know how I stand?

So I guess what I'm asking is, in your opinion, do you think VF is competitive enough in the U.S.? Im not willing to travel to japan lol. And do you think it would be worth it for a new player to start playing seriously at this point? Is it rewarding enough?

Why not play all the games? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Scenes get bigger with more players.

If you believe in the game, support it.

You play GG cause of depth probably even though its not the most mainstream 2D fighter. This game is an equivalent on the 3D fighter side of things.

Even though I hate Tekken, just go ahead and play it. And then tell your friend to play VF5. C'mon, I play other games too. Soul Calibur and the SNK fighters, currently, KOF IX, Garou, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, and Fatal Fury FB. And u know what? Nobody in my whole country plays these games. ( except SC wich has a fan base, why?,cuz u can abuse stuff ) You see, we understand that life can be very short, so we just enjoy our games and we have a blast. We play VF cuz its FUN, not to satisfy our egos. Its very balanced so nobody complains when they lose. U win if u have the knowledge and skill. Its VERY deep. Just enjoy it. Its a small US scene? Whatever man!! If it has highly skilled players it doesn't matter! You want a challenge? Try beating some guys from VFDC. Really, I can tell u its a REAL challenge, plus, most guys are very polite. Try the Tekken scene and you'll see the difference. I've been there. Dude, in LIFE. Never wait for others so you can start doing what u like. Be it VF5, or whatever.

U.S. VF Scene: Worth it? - Hell, yeah!

I know of at least one person who's not interested because the scene is relatively small. I think he's missing out. He probably doesn't think so. In the end, you are the one who knows what's important to you.

I think this is a fantastic game and the people involved in it are top-notch. I don't play other fighting games so I have nothing to compare.

The XBL VF scene has variety and the people that were around before online are just cool people to know. At least once a year (sometimes twice), we get together and party. I'm sure other fighting games have this kind of scene, too. At least I hope they do.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I don't want you all to assume that this is the issue of me being afraid to play games just because my friends or guys in my scene don't. I collect and own many different fighters. My concern is because I have now became a competitve gamer and when I finally get VF5, I wasn't planning on getting it for xbox 360, so therein lies a problem of even playing other people.

And yes I know how the Tekken scene can be lol. Speaking of that, my friend I was talking about(Lil Majin) took 1st place in the S.L.U.T.S. tourney for T5DR AND GGXXAC yesterday. Seeing this firsthand made me a bit more interested in continuing to pursue in Tekken, then I figured that my scene does need a great VF player so we can stay well-rounded. And my friend isn't bad in VF by any means. He has a pretty decent Wolf. He would definitely win any tourneys that we would have here and he said he would practice VF AND Tekken if VF actually had a scene here. No matter. I think I've made up my mind that I'll practice in 4Evo and play VF5 whenever I get the chance and hopefully I'll have a ps3 by the time VF5 R drops lol.

Yes, that's exactly how I see it and in a way, is what led me to wanting to pick this up
seriously. Well that and funtimes of playing VF2 before the 'cades here died.
It's almost like being good in one of these two games garnises major respect. So naturally I'd like to achieve that "double" level if I can. Wish I would've started earlier though lol.

    Lil Majin.
