These can be about a specific game, about fighting games in general or about the communities surrounding fighting games.Feel free to add your own.

1. The bigger a character the slower they move.

2. Main characters almost always have an "evil" version of themselves.

3.Basic projectiles are thrown with 236 (QCF) Punch

4. There must be a thread on a forum talking about the learning of Japanese.

5. Ninjas are fast.

6. There is always someone on a forum who thinks they know everything there is to know about martial arts.

7. Wrestlers can't shut their mouths.

I got one but it's more like etiquette than a rule:

You shouldn't fight only when you win, meaning that if you win 1 or a few more fights and as soon as your opponent gets 1 win you leave: that's whack. Whaaaaaack.

1. Western developed fighting games have that "hard gritty Look" and are night on unplayable.

Japanese people are stern and unrivalled masters of Karate, Russians are unrefined and have immense raw power, Americans are less powerful but have more technique and the women are small and combo-savvy.

Also, schoolgirls that have no real fight experience or training are usually more powerful than everyone else in the game.

Wonder who that could be???

Hint, hint, HINT!

There's almost always a brother-brother combo or a brother-sister combo that look alike or with somewhat similar moves...

* Ken and Ryu
* Jacky and Sarah
* Sub Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Smoke and a million others...
* Kai and Robo Kai
* King and Armor King
* Julia and Wang
* Forrest and Martial Law
* The Kazama's (Tekken seems to have a major case of the
less-than-original-characters disease...)
* Biff and Gunlock from Super Slam Masters <-- Best game ever!
* The Bogart Brothers, Terry and Andy
* The dudes from Double Dragon (I know it's not a fighting game but I still play it all the time on my XBLA. What can I say? Double Dragon is an awesome game for real!)

Fighting game with all original characters = Pit Fighter! C'mon dudes!!!

= All-you-ken!

How about some of the arcade rules of etiquette?

1. If you've got a token up on the machine, you're the next in line to play

2. You never jump in front of someone who's got their token up to play

3. If you're walloping someone, you give them "seconds" (not sure if this is universal, but it's considered poor sportsmanship not to around here)

4. Pouncing repeatedly after the round is over is bad sportsmanship

I'm trying to answer, but that's a good question. I would say that it is a place that you walk through and pay to play a game once at a time. You've never heard of Daytona?

An arcade? I thought that was a town in NY? YOU MEAN THOSE MACHINES ARE CALLED ARCADES?!

No n00b, that's an arcade MACHINE. A collection of arcade machines within the same property is called an arcade.

How about this?:

All fighting games are meant to be played competitively. So that means, ABSOLUTELY NO STRICTLY SINGLE PLAYER FIGHTERS!!

I know what an arcade machine is. Anyway, i have a rule.
1. Best 2 out of 3 loser gives up the controller.
2. Champion can decide to retire on top after having beat everyone at least once.

Every major fighting game has these types of characters

brawlers or grapplers- like Wolf or King of tekken

fast female characters- like Pai, Xianghua in or Chun Li in SF

the tougher oddball character- Faust for GG or Voldo for SC or Shun for VF, etc

the balanced character overall- Ryu in SF and possible Akira, etc

the fast overaggressive masher male- Lau for VF, Jan Lee for DOA, Law in Tekken, etc

some form of ninja- Kage for VF, Ryu Hayabusa for DOA, etc

I am sure there are other basic types but these are all I can think of right now

Theres ALWAYS a East vs West rivalry with the following characteristics

West:
Blond hair
Wears red
Usually RICH
Main goal is to defeat rival most of the time

East:
Red,Brown or Black hair
Wears white
Usually traveling and training
Main goal is to become stronger and to fight a bigger rival thats usually the strongest character in the story

You just described Ryu and Ken.

I have another.

Any character who studies Jeet Kune Do makes a lot of noise.

-At least one of the female characters is Chinese.
-The token ninja always has some kind of flashy aerial throw/attack/maneuvre.</span></span>
