the basa combo just seems unrealistic to land during a match. And what situation is the head butt for as when they are blocking a low attack or throw seems better

The headbutt is mostly good on sideturned opponents who only try guarding, beats sidefuzzy too. They can still of course just react to it and duck it, so be careful with it. Headbutt to side gives you a quaranteed 3P+K or 33P combo.

There's also a couple of wallcombos where the headbutt is applicable.

On vanilla, Basara could be used effectively after shoulder stagger. If your opponent didn't stagger recover it gave nice damage. Probably not the best option though. Also worthy of note is combo damage was scaled down, so a shoulder->basara was a better option then than it would likely be now. Against opponents who could stagger recover it still was an ok basara/throw mix up game. Style points i suppose.

Basara was still a decent mid option based on it did 65(?) damage on normal hit. If blocked it gave guaranteed throw (less than 65 damage for most and escapable), or guaranteed PK (also less than 65 dmg, but leaves you at disadvantage). It was effectively used after good movement or by conditioning opponents to duck certain throw set ups. Hope that helps.

Head-butt: no idea, wasn't in vanilla.

I use the headbutt for when I feel my opponents gonna guard, then after you land it you can do PK, 4 to get your back turned (Interesting fact, you have more frames when you go BT after PK) and you get a free mix up to do either P+K or a BT grab. I'd start off using P+K though so you get your opponent knowing your a dangerous Mofo with your back turned.
