Didn't see a thread for lei, so I decided to start one. The notes are a translation of the listed website, which has a compilation of the known changes and new moves in the location test. I left the Japanese in there in case anyone wants to query my translations.

One thing, is there a set word yet for Lei Fei's new stance? The translation I got was suirakan stance, but am tempted to make it his lay stance, just for the confusion it would cause in talking about moves. /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Or maybe that's not such a good idea.

Some new combos I saw on Heruru's blog today (and in vids):

    [2_][6][P](counter) - [2][P] - [3][3][P][P] - [P][P][P] (68 pts?) This looks like a mid and lightweight character combo.

    [2_][6][P](counter) - [2][P] - [3][3][P] [P]+[K]+[G](to reverse nehan stance) - [K][K] (65?)
I've also seen this combo starting with [9][K]+[G] instead of [2_][6][P], but I'm not sure what the weight/stance requirements are. It looks like a mid/lightweight combo though.

    [2_][6][P](counter) - [2][P] - [1][P]+[K](bounces) - [P][P][P](65?)

    [3][3][P]+[G] throw combos:

    [3][3][P]+[G] - forward dash - [2][P] - [3][3][P] [P]+[K]+[G](to reverse nehan stance) - [K][K] (68?)

In order to win, you must match the best combos to your opponent. This time, we will introduce some of the basic strong combos.

    1. [3][3][P][P] [P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan[K][K]
    2. [3][3][P][P] [P][P] Dokuritsu [K][K]
    3. [3][3][P][P] [P] [2][P] [4][3][P]+[K]
    4. [3][3][P][P] [4][K]+[G][K][2][K]
    5. [9][K]+[G] [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [K][K]
    6. [9][K]+[G] [2][P] [4][6][P] Down[3][K]
    7. [9][K]+[G] [P][P][P]
    8. [9][K]+[G] [2][P] [4][3][P]+[K]
    9. Stomach crumple [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [K][K]
    10. Stomach crumple [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [P][P][P]
    11. Stomach crumple [3][3][P][P] [4][3][P]+[K]
    12. Head or stomach crumple Hai [P][P] Dokuritsu [K][K]
    13. Head crumple [P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [K][K]
    14. [3][3][P]+[G] or [4][6][P]+[G] [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [K][K]
    15. [3][3][P]+[G] or [4][6][P]+[G] [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] BT Nehan [K][K] (same as 14?)
    16. [3][3][P]+[G] or [4][6][P]+[G] [6][6][K]
    17. Hai [K] [2][P]+[K]+[G] Hai [P][P] Doku [K]+[G]
    18. Hai [K] Hai [P][P]+[K] [4][3][P]+[K]

1 and 2 work on all weight classes except heavy eight. Everything should be input as fast as possible, and foot stance isn't important, giving big damage. On Jeffrey in both foot stances and Wolf in open stance, combo 3 (combo 4 will also work on Wolf in open stance.)
5 will essentially work on all but heavyweights in closed stance. It will also connect on Eileen, Brad, Lau and Kage in open stance. It gives good damage and easy okizeme afterwards, so remember to use it on those characters. In open stance for characters on whom 5 won7t connect, use combo 6. The [4][6][P] slams the opponent however they can tech, means that the ground attack won't connect, so attempt to hit confirm as much as possible. Against Aoi, she can reverse your ground attack, so switch to combo instead. Against heavy weights, combo 8 is recommended.
Against stomach crumpled opponents, combo 9 is guaranteed. For combo 9, delay the [2][P] slightly to relaunch or else it won't work. Similarly, combo 10 will work on Eileen, Pai, Lion and Vanessa (excepet with a [2_][6][P] starter) and on Aoi (except when [2_][6][P] hits in closed stance.) If the timing for the [2][P] is too hard, use combos 11 and 12. Combo 12 won7t work on Blaze or Shun, so be careful. For head crumple, use combos 12 and 13.
From [3][3][P]+[G] or [4][6][P]+[G] combo 14 will connect up to Jacky. It will work on Akira, but the timing is so strict that it can't be recommended. The [2][P] should be executed from a forwards dash. Against Akira and heavy weights, use combo 15. For the second [2][P] against all but Akira it should be done with fastest possible timing, against Akira it should be delayed only slightly or swapped for a [P]. If that's too hard, go for combo 16. It can be used on all characters, and gives good okizeme.
Combo 17 is reliable. Combo 18 will connect, but depending on the distance it may not connect, so use 17 or, Dokuritsu [K][K].

Article - VF5 Lei Fei Vs Play
Author - Hanabi Lei (this guy uses far too many puns)

This is the new destructive (Buddhist commandment disobeying) Monk (/baldie).

As a result of intense (pun = bald) training, there has been numerous progressions in increasing his power. From his basic fighting, to the properties of his new stances, to the new combos, the explanation begins.

Attack and defence at close range.
In this version, the standing [P] is much like other characters in terms of advantage on hit. The main string from standing [P] still results in a stomach crumple if the third hit [P][P][P] hits on a counter hit. Against oppoennts who freeze up, [P][P] throw or Doku [2][K] is a mixup. After [P][P] against opponents who evade, you can cancel the Doku stance and go for a zero frame throw, a strong option during the opponent's evade recovery.
During advantage, the basics are either [6][6][P] which pushes back on guard or throw. In this game due to the system, against opponents who are good at avoiding mixups, cancelling stances in strings to mix up timing is a good way to beat them.
When you are largely advantaged, combo starters are good. Go for [3][3][P][P], [9][K]+[G]. [9][K]+[G] goes over opponent's low punches, so it is good for taking damage off opponent's who are in the habit of crouching.

    - [3][3][P] now allows you to go into stance,
and you can do this much damage off one combo!

    Middle range attack.
In terms of the moves that can take damage at mid range, Hai [P]+[K] gives advantage on hit, Doku [P] has good range and Hai [P][P]+[K] gives advantage on guard. Use these as your basics, then [3][3][P][P] on opponent's whiffs, the new [4][P]*[K][P], or the [4][6][P]+[K] to attack while avoiding the opponent's attacks giving crumple stun on hit; using these big return moves is a useful style.
Changing stances at range, there are risks and returns. If the opponent comes with a kick or shoulder, or double handed attack then the damage is big. Conversely, you can often predict when the opponent will attack and invite their attack. The low Hai stance and Nehan stances, the BT from nehan stance and the new *sleeping stance all allow you various ways to attack. These take a sense to use, so make up your own patterns.

    - The new mid move [4][P]+[K][P]
even if you delay it it will combo.

    Attacking from BT Koko
BT Koko stance, that is to say reverse Koko stance. Going directly into it, [6][P][P]+[K]+[G] (one move into stance) is about as quick as it gets, but from there you can use some moves with good properties.
The main move, BT Koko [P] launches on counter hit and is even on block. It parries opponent's mid or high [P] elbows, [K] middle kicks, headbutts and knees. On hit it gives butt stun for? BT koko [K] and because of its parry abilities it can be used to attack at disadvantage.
Against opponents who clam up, BT Koko can cause stagger or BT Koko [2][K] will knock down on normal hit.

    - The sabaki move
on hit and sabaki gives butt stagger.
    - BT Koko [6][K] stands and attacks low, so it is hard to see and even when guarded gives small disadvantage.
    Attacking from BT Nehan
Reverse Nehan - again this move can only be entered into from other moves. You will often use BT Nehan [K][K] in combos.
You can go into hai, *sleeping and dokuritsu stances, so the freedom is great. The main string is BT Nehan [P][P][P], a high, mid, special mid string. If you stop at the second hit you go into nehan stance, or you can continue on to the third hit which gives a launch on counter hit.

    *Attacking from sleeping stance
A stance where he sleeps on his side, the attacks aren't that powerful, but its ability to feint is high. The stance is low, but it unexpectedly eats a lot of opponent's attacks, so be careful.
The long reaching *Sleeping stance [P] is a id hit, and the *sleeping stance [K] is a low hit that staggers. It is short ranged, so use it at close range. When you press [G] to cancel the stance, you end up in the down state.

    - This is what happens when you eat an attack in *Sleeping stance. You might be hit by followups, but it's better than a juggle right?

    Tidbit
The players who have been doing it tough playing Lei up until now will definitely enjoy playing this new Lei, I think /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. As a footnote, against light characters, after stomach crumple you can add [2][P] [3][3][P][P]+[K]+[G] [K][K] or [3][3][P][P][4][3][P]+[K]. Also, after head stun, Hai [P][P] Doku [K][K] will connect, depending on character. This lets you increase your return when you pick the situation right. And with that, more diligence!!

[The combos were all repeats of those I did in the last translation, so I won't rewrite them.]

And just one little addition there, I wonder if anyone will pick it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just thought I'd add this about the punning I mentioned, it might be of interest to anyone learning/knowing Japanese.

hakai means destructive, but there's a second meaning (he puts both characters in) of breaking Buddhist commandments
then, Bouzu typically means baldie, but the original meaning is a Buddhist monk - either one will apply to Lei Fei
finally, when he says intense, he doesn't use hirigana or kanji but instead uses katakana for hage and then hirigana for shii
hage is yet another meaning for bald
and at the end he say "More dedication", which sounds quasi-religious

Lei Fei is in the top class near to the wall. This month we introduce useful techniques at the wall, and look at some pointers on using his stances.

Big Damage combos from wedging your opponent against the wall.
When you're up against the wall, go for *ffP which staggers on normal hit. Because this move pushes back on block, even if they're a little away from the wall it will knock them back in to it.
While the opponent is staggered, a crouch dash buffered *df df fP is effective. If this hits while the opponent is staggered, a stomach crumple will occur, and you can combo from there.
The combo you can go for from here is delayed *dP f,fK (hold K) Dokushitu K+G. Or, *delayed dP *fP+KP *bffP+KK is recommended. For the last hit, confirm that a wall hit occurs before executing it. The second combo depends on wall angle, distance and the weight of hte opponent to connect, but it will work even if you are a little separated, so make it one of your mains.
When you are close to the wall, and the opponent recovers quickly, the opponent can guard your *FC,f+P. In this instance, you can use the guaranteed *b dfP+K. Depending on the angle and distance, this will wall splat and allow for combos.
Against heavyweights, *ffP bfP b dfP+K bffP+KK can connect. This works because bfP gives a special kind of juggle.

    - If you hit the stomach crumple stun quite far from the wall
    - combos within the text will hit them against the wall.

    Using stances at close range.
First Hai stance. After *P on normal hit, move to Hai stance, then slightly slower than ASAP use Hai stance *K. This will hit them during their recovery of ETEG, and will evade their short-ranged *dP or elbow abare and hit them during their recovery. After a *dP is blocked, you can avoid a return *dP and connect.
Next df dfPP+K+G to uP+K+G. The first move will leave you at a disadvantage, but you will be able to reverse the opponent's *P, *dP and elbows. This lets you confuse opponents who attack your stances, keep mixing it up to maintain effectiveness.

    Re: VF5 Lei Fei

Since this is the general Lei-Fei thread, I thought I'd post my question here.

What's the fastest way to get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif to come out from a crouching position?
(let's say you just guarded opponent's low rising kick situation)
    (another situation I can think of is guarding the last hit of Lau's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif)

I'm trying to get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif to go into flowcharts off that, but I find it really difficult. Everytime I crouch dash buffer into /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, I get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif come out, and if I try to backdash buffer, I get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, which isn't what I want. Most I can get on punishing a low rising kick is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, which pushes back a bit on hit. With Jacky, you can just do
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif from crouch guard and you get his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to retaliate against a slow low rising kick.
    Hmmm, maybe /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is better?
Any advice would be really helpful.

    Hey Ken__I,

I don't necessarily know about Lei Fei, but I'm guessing you're talking about getting the standing f+P from crouch.

Should be able to do it as f+G, f+P.

For sure you can do it as f,f(G), f+P.

    Re: VF5 Lei Fei

    nice
    thx for the tip Chanchai

now if only there was a way to incorporate OM into combos...
I'm still also trying to figure out how to make the best use of side turned situation since Lei-Fei is still in stance when he does side turned hit moves. I was really really sleep deprived at Plague's house that time we tested it out, so unfortunately I don't remember much /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
But yeah, btw I had fun playing you Chanchai, cuz I don't get to play many Lions and learning that matchup was interesting.

Thanks for the comments Ken /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Since the gathering, I've still been learning more about that matchup. Starting to see why Alex was telling me that Lion is a harsh matchup for Lei Fei. Lion actually has quite a few things that very specifically punish Lei Fei and limit his options.

Hopefully we'll fight it out again soon.

Since this is the Lei Fei thread... I'm curious what everyone thinks about each matchup for Lei Fei. I kind of prefer "matchup" talk over "tier" talk /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm just mainly a Lion player and while Ken I and Alex were beating me up at the gathering... I think Lei Fei has a hard time against Lion in the matchup.

    Re: VF5 Lei Fei

Anyone know any famous lei-fei players?
I was looking for match videos of them to watch, but i am unfamiliar with the lei-fei player base since he is a new character to me in 5. The only ones I am familiar with are Hanabi lei, Seitentaisei, and Nagato (is he fairly new?) but that's just coming from the black book DVD. I also know Heruru but I haven't seen him play much 5 and people tell me not to watch him at all. I've also been referred to "The Man" on youtube vids, he seems pretty sharp, but besides the above mentioned, I have no idea who to look out of for. Of course coming from a Brad background, that might be getting too greedy as there was only one Brad player (Itoshun) that I payed any attention to.

How long has Fuumin been playing Lei-fei?
Because as I've been told, Fuumin used to be a Lion player...

One of my favourite Lei players to watch, The Man, has a blog where he posts his movies. Keep an eye on it by visiting the blog, or subscribing to the RSS feed.

Haha , Yea I used to think the same thing. Actually anyone with Fast Low Sweeps gave my Lei a hard time. But I think Lei has a lot more useful stuff in VF 5 now. Lion/Lei Match up's aren't as bad as they used to be IMO and I think they are pretty much equal now.
