VF5 Quest Mode tips

So now that VF5 is out, I thought it might be handy to start a Quest mode thread, kind of like an FAQ but not as in-depth. Just post your observations/tips here.

Some observations of mine:

Before a round starts, it will show your stat card and a rank progress bar below it. If the progress bar is glowing on the outside, then you have something to gain by winning the match. This usually happens from fighting higher ranked players than yourself. If you are a Gladiator, for instance, and you beat a 1st Dan, you won't gain experience, and the progress bar will not glow.

When a tournament is happening, the arcade icon on the map screen will have a glowing yellow light underneath it, showing you which arcade is holding the tournament.

It seems to me that item battles become more rare the longer you play at a single machine. For instance, if you have 10 wins in a row on cab 2 in Sega Route 101, you probably won't be getting many item battles from that point forward. But if you switch cabs, it seems to reset the frequency of item battles. So if you just switch over to cab 1 or 3, you'll probably be getting more items.

I think you get money for losing in this game. Which I know sounds odd, but its true. My vanessa is always broke, I only ever get money from item battles (and even that is super rare) and winning tournaments. But my girlfriend's Pai profile has a record of 0-8, yet has 3200g. I do notice that when you lose a little "G" bag appears above your player card. Is it just me, or does this seem backwards as hell? No money for winning, but money for losing.

Items seem to come in 3 flavors (that I've noticed). Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond. When you win an item battle and the chest opens, and its actually an item, it shows the shirt icon with a jewel behind it. I think this is like the bronze/plat/gold/red chests from Evo. The only time I can remember a diamond is for 1st dan, when you get outfit C. I think ruby is the next rare, and emerald is common items.

Anyone else have any tips/observations in Quest mode?

 

Well, it was like this in the arcade version as well. However, the amount of money gained was determined by the amount of wins in a row you had before you lost. So it's not as backwards as it might seem.

 

Also, I thought I'd post the ranking order as I make it through. If anyone has a full rank list, that would be great!

1st dan - 10th dan
master
warrior
Veteran

Vindicator
Avenger

I also know that you get an item at 1st dan, master, and vindicator ranks.

 

Ah! That would make sense. So if you win like 20 times in a row, then loose, you'll get a fat sack of cash. But if you just keep loosing over and over, you'll probably only get like 100g. Cool, thanks for the tip. So perhaps its worth it when you're on a huge win streak at an arcade to lose one match then quit, just so you can get some cash. Because exiting to the arcade screen doesn't give you jack.

I've also noticed that the cabs at the arcades seem to have players which are based on your rank. For example, cab 1 always seems to be players which are lower ranked than you. Cab 2 is about the same rank as you, and cab 3 is higher ranks than you.

 

Any idea what the rets of the ranks are? Or is it the same as evo. As of now im a Avenger with Akira. Just want to know how much more i have to go till I top off

 

I'm not sure about the ranks either. I'm also an Avenger with Vanessa. The ranks do seem to be quite a bit different from Evo though. Master wasn't a rank in Evo.

I'm also wondering what the purpose of the official tournaments is. Theres no prize for winning it, but it seems like you need to win them.

Oh, and by the way Jeneric, I found you in the game. 10th dan Vanessa. I don't know which arcade though because it was during a tournament.

 

I am now a vanquisher. I pretty much just stay at club sega bay area and just play the guys i havent played yet (the ones without stars next to the name) White worm if your the same one as on the gamefaqs forums, im fivefournine on those boards. Glad to see your intrest in VF.

Yea I'm the same from GameFAQs, but I'm staying the hell away from that board now. It's just becoming a circus. Seriously, stay away from GameFAQs forums.

Reborn, you should take my tip about seeing if your progress bar glows before the match starts. If it doesn't, make a note of that rank and know that it wont give you any xp. Then just hit start and quit out, and look for someone of a different rank.

I'm still a lowly avenger, my girlfriend has been playing it all day (and even she beat Srider...lol).

 

Yeah i was aware about the glowing exp bar. I just cant seem to fight anyone who will give me any exp. I fought people above, below, and same rank. I think maybe it might need a few wins now in order to get any exp. As for gamefaqs, i honetsly never ever post on forums. I have been playing fighting games seriously for more then half my life and this is like my first forum. Nothign against people who are into forums and stuff thats cool I have no problems. To each his own. The forums just aint my thing. The real reason im here and on gamefaqs and here is to try and make a community here on LI. No one pays atention to this game and its a shame. I hope whne the US version comes out things will spark a bit.

 

I am going to pay really close attention to the money thing because I never get money from losing or winning matches. I seem to only get money from tournaments and prize matches.

 

you do get money form losing. Its just a little bag above the exp bar. I think it happens more when u play a person with a profile as opposed to the quets mode.

 

I just got the final orb disc. I think theres a total of 6, you start with one and have to buy five more. After that, it says your orb item is complete.

I still can't figure out how to rank beyond conquerer. Nothing is giving me experience anymore. I am about 60% to the next rank, but I just suddenly stopped getting xp. If I remember correctly, one of the matches where I actually did get xp was against an Enforcer. But I've fought tons of enforcers after that and still nothing. So I guess its back to the drawing board. I hope theres not some invisible requirement for ranking up now, like hidden quest orders. It may have something to do with wins in a row or players defeated or emblems. I'm not sure. Does anyone have any info about how the ranking worked in the Japanese arcades?

 

Hey, maybe you have to have certain amount of wins in overall, to progress any further. You know, so that there will be no champion with 400 wins and 30 losses. Just a gues, I can't even check it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I doubt conqueror is the last rank, because theres tons of ranks in the arcades that I haven't gotten to. Like Guardian, Defender, Berzerker, Barbarian, ect.

I was thinking that it might be a minimum win amount too. Either that or beating more official tournaments. I'll keep trying, and let you guys know what I find out.

By the way archangel, you made it into VF5. Not sure if you already know or not. Vanquisher rank.

 

Cheers mate i'm actually in quest mode twice i knew that i was in there since i happen to be in the credits of arcade mode too and Conqueror IS THE LAST RANK.

Then why is there still a progress bar? And whats with all the other ranks I've never gotten to?

 

The progress bar doesnt progress at that rank and the other ranks are special ranks for AI characters.
