Some new screen shots for your eyes only.

    http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20080516/segaam.htm

Some small details about the changes to the game.

New "extra item" which are items that can be equipped on top of certain base items.

Orb plate system is out, in exchange for rare item orbs.

New "pupil mode", where you can train an AI counterpart to play with you. You can gain experience and level up your AI pupil, and of course, equip items on it.

This mode requires a VF.net account.

Arcade release date is yet unannounced.

Reminds me of a system in a game I played a while back called Armored Core. A few installments of that game had features where as you played the A.I. learned your play-style and mimicked it better the more you played. Is the pupil going to be the same deal?

That's how the opponents worked in VFRemix' ranking mode... Forcing you to use every trick to get the maximum ranking. I loved that one.

Actually, I was going to post about that. VFDC was down for me though.

Anyways, it's not really that they are changing ranks. There will basically be a ranking reset so everyone's current rank will be dropped to 5th dan and below. I don't want to do a full break down, but the top dogs will become 5th dan, and everyone else will be spread out to ranks lower than that.

This is to prepare for the release of VF5:R, as AM2 announced their last Version D campaign in June, with 3 unannounced campaign in July.

I'm guessing the 3 unannounced campaigns will have something to do with VF5:R, possibly a location test where you can use cards. This means that potentially VF5:R will hit arcades starting at end of July, just in time for summer as expected.

Could you please explain this better if you can? I haven't played VF5 in the arcades so I don't know how the system goes there currently. But on the console you fight in Quest and after a certain amount of bouts you get an item battle, you win an orange pearl (orb) and that fills up one spot of 7 on a plate. You fill the plate and you first get a costume. You repeat the process and then you get rare items once the plate is filled.

..So.. if i've understod your post correctly, I take it to mean that in VF5:R you'd fight without the plate and after a certain number of bouts instead of getting an orange orb to fill the plate, you instead get a rare item straight away?

Now a general comment about the AI training: Sounds really interesting. I'd love if this feature made it to console. I would hope that as you play with your character it stores data on how you play and the tendency of moves you pick. VF4:Evo did well to include a breakdown of your un/successful hits (low/mid/high) in quest mode and so it would be nice for the system to continue to track that. But I would hope that it logs that info and learns how you play and then you could fight against your own customised character? That would be an excellent way of realising your fight tendencies. A little bit similar to how an American Football game called NFL 2K5 used to track data on a "VIP" file and allow you to play against your own team. It was very cool.

All that is known at the moment is that the orb plate system will no longer be used.

AM2 has yet to reveal what the new orb/rare items system will be like.

OK, thanks for that. Had hoped there was some more detail on the means of acquiring items.
