Since you decided to use fairly strong language to criticize SSF4, let me be blunt too. Without trying to offend anybody, given more people play online for SSF4 than any fighting game you can think of (competitions not even close) I say if you have problem with SSF4's system it's not because it's fundamentally wrong. It's because you don't win.

Let me be clear. I suck at SSF4 too. But I don't blame the game for telling me the truth.

 

SF IV ranking system is great imo, I love how it works in japanese arcades and online it does well to show the level of said player with said character, plus the global ranking, even though being an online warrior doesn't means much at the moment

I guess I should correct that, huh... Its probably more the case that they were more interested in playing each other at the moment, than letting me get in a game. But I won't call out names (not for bad stuff) I try (I'm not always successful) to only mention someones tag if I have something positive to say about them.

Yes, I felt the treatment was a little rude, but it could have been the case that I barged into a room full of friends and I was the odd man out. My major point is these cats were not from Japan, but they have that high level play, just like you do Happy But then again maybe they looked at my win/loss ratio, or battle points and figured I was a loser, so why waste their time.

 

Oh I think SSF4's system is fair in showing your position in the global player pool. However, it offers little intrinsic incentive for a new player to compete online. If you play SSF4 online as a newbie it's because you love SSF4 and you have thick skin, not because the game is good at encouraging you until you can stand on your own 2 feet online-wise.

I know I don't win in SSF4. When I first started online in Dawn Of War 2, for example, I lost a lot too. But that game gives you grinding points whether you win or lose (you earn more points the better your in-game performance, even if you lost in the end), and you gain levels which allow you to unlock visual bling for your units. Handholding like that keeps newbies motivated.

Also despite "more players" for SSF4, where I am I've never had much luck in matching up with similarly skilled players. As in, everyone I played have had tons more Battle Points than me.

 

In this group in our Xbox/PS3 version the third rank is Guardian instead of Gladiator.

 

Hey Po, just seen this reply. I look forward to playing you on the PS3 too. The reason I haven't been on is because I don't have a PS3 stick yet. Once I buy one I will definitely be on and hopefully we can get GG's in.

 

if you're in Jin group can you get demoted back to Mono Group, and if you're in Mono Group can you get demoted back to Shi group. I know once you in Shi group you cannot get demoted back to Dan ;

Some one told me that cannot get demoted out of the group you're in. For example if you're in MOno group you can't get demoted under Defender
can someone confirm?

 

I've been demoted from warrior to guardian before so yeah you can.

 

I'm a little bummed about the rank. It shouldn't matter and I will get over it, but I am between 70 and 80% and am a Hunter. I was expecting a Raider title. Now I'm stuck with this. Even makes me think about making a new profile. Did I need to be between 80 and 90%?

 

Dont make a new profile. Youre always a hunter first. Then comes raider, then barbarian etc. The ranking system is more like in the arcade and not like the last comsole version.
So you get your raider after the hunter and so on. Look on the first page to see all rankings.

also at Masterpro:

You dont gain/loose a lot of points, if you fight someone outside of your group. So even if you loose some matches to an Avenger or something, it will hardly cost you your Warrior title. You only loose a lot of points if you play people from the same group.

 

Thanks for explanation. I feel foolish now. I even saw the other guy get told that there was no branching this time. Duh. Well, now the real fun begins.
