    Hi Guys

I was thinking about how much time I spend playing this game and reading this forum, and it made me wonder about videogame addiction, whether this is something that may be going on with me.

I found some links on wiki:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_addiction

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impulse_control_disorder

Let me say I am not addicted to anything (drugs/alcohol/gambling) but it worries me a bit the amount of time I spend thinking about VF.

anybody else feel the same way?

I think anything can be unhealthy if its done too much. Video games, work, exercise, jerking off.

I worry about the amount of time I spend breathing in. I can't imagine that that's healthy.

games are great but I think the moment you spend more time than you honestly can (ie, it impacts your job, relationships, etc) on anything then you have a problem. If you can balance your comittments and you enjoy your time playing the game then you're likely fine. I know people who have made games a substitute for real accomplishment in their lives which is very sad.

I just returned from a walk so I'm bit tired to talk about it right now, if you want pm me and we can talk on msn. But I have been a video game addict and got over it by myself. It was very harsh.

    Be good =)

Whenever i'm not playing VF, I practise struggling by jerking off. Works really well.

Very sad indeed. Sometimes I worry about the false sense of gratification that video games provide. I won't drop any names but ever since I started playing online I have had convos with people such as these and always hoped that they weren't as serious about a video game as they come across.
Sadly, I know they are though. So many people wanting to make a name for themselves without putting in the work and the effort that it takes to truly stand out. Then there are those that no matter how much training, time and effort they put into a game they can't match the natural talent that some players possess. Still, they try and try and ultimately waste their life trying to reach a goal that their physical or mental limitations will not allow them to ever reach.

I'm with everybody here that said that as long as it isn't affecting major things like your work performance, relationships, health, etc. then you're good.
If it is, maybe you should search other hobbies or activities that you can get gratification from but won't affect the things that truly matter in your life.

You only transcend something as a hobby, when it becomes your way of life! This is the way of the Bushido! Commit to your fullest!

On the real, I second what GodEater said. I'm all for people doing what they enjoy, as long as it isn't a detriment to their health or well-being.

Man, this reminded me of Grimmjow, from Bleach, that anime you know? "I WANT TO BECOME A VASTO LORDE!" <o> even though he couldn't, ever.

The problem of videogame addiction is that it's not that easy to detect, and most gamers won't admit to it, covering themselves up with all sorts of stuff. ^^' All of them make sense, but not always apply to their reality, and that's when you don't know which is false or not. When it's becoming unhealthy or when it's just a hobby like any other...

Everyone who frequents this forum is addicted to either VF or some other game(s), imo. Even if you do or don't have other things going.

    Admit that shit.

We're all addicts to things we enjoy.

Though it's always best to be addicted to things that are the most constructive, not destructive. When you feel something is destructive, you're going to have to quit it and get addicted to something else that's not. And I'm sure often times you're not even going to be the judge of that, someone else is probably going to have to tell you. Don't be in denial though, just accept it or something.

I have/had many addictions in my life. Some of them were very, very serious. Addiction is no joke. Video games are not drugs, they are a MUCH better alternative to doing real drugs that twist and confuse your mind while simultaneously destroying your body and health.

I play a TON of video games, and it's obviously to the detriment of other things, but there is nothing you can spend any time on that doesn't take away from something else. (I'm on VFDC but I could be trying to learn something on Wikipedia... Am I wasting my time??? No, I don't think so.) If it gives you true enjoyment and let's you be in the present moment, do it. I have had other addictions that made my video game "addiction" look like Sesame Street.

I watched a True Life on MTV about a dude who was addicted to WoW. He also suffered from a seizure disorder that was triggered by video games but could not stop playing. He eventually stopped showing up for work and lost his job. He then asked another online player to "marry him (aka his online character, not the 'real' him)" and blew his head off with a shotgun after his proposal was turned down...

    That's video game addiction!

If you play 20-30 hours of video games a week, in your free time... even if it takes up almost ALL of your free time (free as in, you have other normal responsibilities like everyone and play after your done), I think you're fine.

If you are a 35-40 yr old man and still live in your mom's basement, because you could never pull yourself away from the games long enough to do anything remotely productive at all, you have a problem...

There's nothing wrong with doing something you enjoy as long as your not hurting yourself...

If you know what you are doing is hurting you, in one way or another, and you still CAN'T stop, that is where I draw the line of addiction... Mental, physical or anything else...

Some of you are throwing away the term addicted way too freely. I have been addicted to cigarettes and pain killers. Let me tell you, wanting to play video games when you can't is nothing like the physical ach caused by "wanting" PKs, or even cigarettes, when you can’t. If I visit VFDC, I’m addicted to video games? No. I’m bored at work and watching porn after 10 am is frowned upon.

Doesn't have to be something negative, and it doesn't have to be withdrawls either imo.

EDIT: I dont even really know what I want to say, or how I want to say it.
