Hey all, just in time for Pi Day, watch me recite 500 digits of pi from memory!

This took place at the FJET Talent Show on 3/10/07 in Fukui, Japan. The talent show was held to help raise money for Sopa, a girl in Thailand who needs $$$ to go to college. Each act had a cup or guitar case or some kind of container that people could put $$$ into. 100 yen was equal to one vote, and the person with the most votes (or who raised the most money) won. Of course I won and people spent 7000 yen voting for my act! I got a small bag of prizes, a can of beer, and 5000 yen in cash. Being the stand up individual I am, I recontributed my 5000 yen prize money back to Sopa. So I single handedley earned 12,000yen for this girl's college education in the 3 minutes it took me to recipte pi. After handing back the 5000 yen I smiled to the audience, "... but I'm keeping the beer!"

    Happy Pi Day!

LMAO, dude, how the fuck did you memorise them? Do you have a system, or did you just literally commit them to memory?

Okay, so first thought (before viewing) was rolls eyes as I've never understood the fascination with Pi - that's just me. Second thought after viewing was that I still didn't get it but at least it was entertaining (nice hat).

Then I am in the Elite Lounge of the SeaTac airport on Wednesday waiting for my flight to Vancouver when I glance up at the Plasma that is tuned to ABC. They're doing a segment on Pi and they put up 4 videos from youtube and--if you can dig it--Namflow is in the lower right hand corner of the big screen.

"I know that geek", I shouted at the very reserved business men and women of the lounge. "he knows Pi to 500 digits....recognize!"

    They pretty much had to.

I started memorizing Pi in math class by typing it into my calculator, and later on practice typing it on my computer. So I visualize the patterns the digits make on the number pad. So for example 3.1415926, 141 is start at 1, go up one space to 4, then down one space to 1. then 59 is diagonal up right twice, then 26 is another up right diagonal that starts and ends relatively one space lower than the 59 pattern. Does that make sense?

So sometimes if I get stuck I'll pretend to type it out on an imaginary number pad. As it stands now though, I've practiced so much it's almost like saying the ABCs. You don't really think about what comes after "ABC", you just know.

Not nearly enough, I'm really lazy when it comes to studying kanji.

holy shit I was on ABC?!?!?! That's awesome! Man I need to go find a clip of that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
