Picked up Viewtiful Joe today. I only played the first stage, so if any of you played the demo, it's pretty much the same.

The intro is kinda funny and messed up. The english is actually pretty good and sounds like what you'd hear in a B movie which I'm sure is the whole point.

Anyway, the only difference I can see from the demo is that the boss (helicopter) drops minions where in the demo it was one on one. Plus, when you're Joe, the game has this "old" film filter on the screen. It gives the appearance of slight blurred and dusty film. Right now I have a pretty cheap TV, so I thought the video output was loose or something.

From what I've seen so far, you get more moves by buying them at the store. Since I haven't beat the first stage yet, I don't know how you get to the store. I think you can go there at the end of each level.

So far pretty good. I'll be playing more over the weekend for sure.

Cute, Brilliant Game!!!!! I played the demo countless times (and I never did that for any other game period) and I am still waiting for my copy to arrive. But really, this game has potential; very simple and fun. I don't know if I will get tired of the slow-motion stuff anytime soon. It's fun /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

** Knocks on the door **

" UPS " said the UPS guy.

So scratch that, I have VJ now but I can't play for a while. Stupid test tomorrow /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif (I must play at least the first stage again though).

Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast?
If it is, then open that puppy up immediately. It's one of the most fun and well-done action-RPG's ever done. I've beaten it myself almost 5 times now. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I found a good review of it here.

Its a great game, I'm currently battling the shark guy...the only thing I wish they had was an option to replay previously played levels.

You think this is worth getting? I'm getting Rockman X7 next (just came out yesterday) when I finish a couple of other thigns -- like getting my brand spanking new computer to fucking work.

Also - is the Lodoss War the US or JPN version? If it's the Japanese, keep it sealed ($$$$). Not sure how rare the US version is. It is, however, a good game.

Yeah well the grossly mislabeled Kids mode is misleading. The Penny Arcade letter was funny, for once it made me laugh. Everything is in english if your impatient its worth getting. It is wicked difficult, but stylistically it rulez!!

I know nothing of rockman or mega mans so I can't say how it would compare.

You're talking about the Japanese version, yes? From what I understand, "Kid's Mode" generally means the subtitles will have less Kanji.... for the few games that have Kid's mode that is.

The US release of Record of Lodoss War was a limited release, but due to low sales you can still pick up new copies for under $15. IMO it's one of the Top 5 Dreamcast games and definitely Top Tier among ARPG's.

It's one of those weird releases in Japan. It was released on the same day as Jet SEt Radio. I picked up both. Some months later, everyone wanted Lodoss War, but it was nowhere to be found. You see them for upwards of $60-$80 these days, when most games are $10-$20.

By all means get Viewtiful Joe over Rockman X 7! It's just much more fun IMO (even if I haven't played RX7, it's still the same stuff).

VJ is simply cute, fresh, and fun /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. The difficulty level is just right, and when you beat the game on Adult you will unlock V-rated and Ultra V-rated, which are insane! Kids mode is just another name for easy mode I believe /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Just play VJ for at least 2 full levels and you will be hooked /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

GP, Viewtiful Joe is definitely worth getting. Dunno about rockman x7... looks ok, but i haven't been much of a rockman fan since the Famicon/SFC days. RIght now I'll probably pick up Star Soldier and definitely will be getting FZero GX and FF:Crystal Chronicles. IMO, Nintendo has so much more interesting stuff. Just got Super Mario Adv 4 too. that's pretty fun.

Well, I picked up Lodoss (JPN) for like Y2500. It's supposedly a DreamCollection release, but nothing on the package itself says otherwise. The shrinkwrap has a "DoriKore" sticker on it though. Maybe the cover art is different... dunno since I have seen the "original" release.

A lot of places around here are blowing out their DC games for 50% off. Got Rez brand new for Y3500 and Cosmic Smash (DVD case... yuck) for Y980. I pretty much got all the DC games I want now. Most of the games I see in the stores now have been those love sims and such.
