I just bought the vf1 stage from the shop in quest mode and after playing on it i have to say that i prefered the days in which music was more computer orientated. Back then developers had to make do with what they had which seemed to make them more creative nowadays VF music just seems to be any old tosh put in there, anybody esle feel this way.

Strangely enough I just found my cd of all the old sf2 music and had a listen to it.Man I love those old choons, specially Guiles and Ryus stages. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif Very up tempo and perfect for the game.

i read what yu suzuki had to say in a section of the official VF4 sound track CD, he basically wanted players to feel the atmosphere of a surrounding rather than jingle to a catchy tune (not that i don't perfer it.) it's used only as sounds to emphasize the structure of the arena and make players be familiarized with really "where they are" and make it a believeable environment. he believed that since technology was progressing, he wanted to bring about technically advanced touches that would envole players more and give the game a certain "feel" to it.

not that i personally think it worked as i was undoubtably more irritated with annoying tunes in VF4, i'm not sure what their approach was in EVO. going back to your original question tho, yah, VF1 / 2 misic was definatley the best, pai's tune was one of my favs in VF1, and akiras, lions, and shun's were my favs in VF2, it just won't be the same anymore.. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The remixes in the Saturn version of VF2 were some of the best songs I've heard in the VF series. I really liked Jacky's song. It sounded great. Lion's was also very good.

Some of the songs in VF4 were pretty good. However, some of them started off pretty good but quicky turned bad once the fight started. I think a good example was Lei-Fei's music. (I don't exactly remember because I only rented VF4 recently, but I will buy Evo.) I remember reading somewhere that Yu Suzuki said that he wanted it to be a bit more like Limp Bizkit. Um... yeah.

Some of the songs in VF3 were pretty good, but a lot of them just didn't sound like they wanted me to get in the mood to kick butt.

VF1's music I can't really comment on. I've only extensively played the 32X version, and I'm sure it's not as good as the arcade or Saturn versions. But still, some of the songs sounded all right.

While fighting games have usually had pretty good music to them for the most part, especially the SF series imo, I think the VF soundtracks are good too.

While I liked the electronic type sound of the first two games, I think Evolution has BY FAR the best music of any VF game hands down. Each track fits perfectly to each stage, and none of them sound alike imo.

Sega said that they though VF4's soundtrack was repetitive and unlively, and for Evolution they were aiming for a more "hard hitting" sound, which is exactly what they did imo.

Not to mention, that for the first time in the VF series, I think the tempo, pulse, and meter of the music really fit into the "tempo" of the matches that are played on each stage, sometimes the matches go "right with the beat" if you know what I mean.

While you don't want the sound to become the focal point of a match, you certainly would want to hear some music emmiting from your speakers, and I think the best example of this in the VF series has to be Evolution /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif[2][4][8][6][P][K][G]

Yeah! How could I forget that song? The remix sounded amazing! It made the match against Virtua Fighter's equivalent to the lame Ryu and Kyos of fighting games so much more fun!

K', on the other hand, is cool.

hmmm imo some of evos music falls short in comparison to vf4.The vf4 music I liked was,
    Lions snow stage(favourite by far)
    Akiras dojo
    Aois shrine
umm thats about it really. In evo I 'd say I like,
    Lei feis temple
Lions snow stage ( even though its very different)
    Akiras dojo(different again)
    Laus chinese wall stage
However I really don't like Aois new music or the dural stage as I reckon vf4s dural stage was better. This is all subjective though and since I've unlocked all original vf4 places and music I don't lose too much sleep over it at night.

    3. Jacky (VF2)
    4. Sarah (VF1)
    5. Dural (VF 1)

The VF1 tracks are arcade original btw not the arranged Saturn versions (yes they were arranged!)

I found myself wanting to turn down the BGM. Not really a fan of the tunes in VF4 Evo, i'm sorry to say.

But then.. they are growing on me the more and more i play...

VF1 Dural and Jacky are still my favorite tunes of the series. The former is so fitting for an extra-long Final Round, and the latter is just catchy as hell.

For me VF3's tunes win hands down. In comparison I find VF4 music to be pretty boring - it's almost like an annoying ambience, although Evo was definately an improvement.

    Some my VF3 favs were:

Jacky's stage - a techy-rock ballad that got you so pumped during the fight. Fantastic.

Jeff's stage - slow drums that build up into a chant....I think it said "fight, fight, fight....*guitar and drums break*.....fight, fight, fight"

Aio's snowy stage - it was like a chinese harp or something that got faster and faster.

These tunes just suited the stages so well and really got the adreneline pumping during a match. Come to think of it the stages in VF3 were better than VF4's too.
