I'm honestly suprised VF is in again this year. But hell, I'll take it I guess. Maybe it was popular enough in the asian countries participating for them to want it again. So, I guess I'll try again this year, even though I'm still a bit miffed about what happened to me in the qualifiers last year, plus I see virtually no chance of making it past the nationals, plus I may not have enough money to travel. But other than that, sounds like fun. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I'm also very surprised that WCG selected VF5 this year. I like the game, but what Sega has done to it is really not very good for the competitive scene.

I was hoping we'd get a second fighting game in there, but it doesn't look like more games are being announced at this point.

The lack of competitive scene for VF5 right now really doesn't get me motivated to play for a spot in WCG, but I may register anyway. I just can't stand online play and no one plays this game locally although I can find comp in any other fighter... -_-

what did sega do to it? The game seems fine to me. I'm not a fan of online either but it's undeniable that it has brought new people to the scene.

There are three different versions in the competitive scene right now.

    PS3 - VF5 ver B
    Xbox 360 - VF5 ver C
    Arcade - VF5r

The arcade version isn't even available in the US. At the very least Sega could update the PS3 version to C so that PS3 and Xbox owners are playing the same thing.

Namco has done something similar with Tekken by not having a US release of the arcade version and then opting not to release T6 Vanilla on console. Most competitive Tekken players in the US will be nearly two years behind the rest of the world by the time T6 BR hits console.

WCG is just for Xbox games, no?
If you wanted to play halo in WCG, you're gonna need an xbox, right? I look at it the same way.

I dont understand how the US would be 2 years behind the rest of the world as Tekken6BR is only available in the arcades in japan. Wouldnt it be more correct to say the rest of the world is behind japan by 2 years? In addition, if someone was serious about Tekken6BR, they can buy an arcade board.

There are three more games WCG will sponsor this year. I don't know when they will reveal them.

One might be another fighting game for X360. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

There are T6BR cabs in the U.S.

Sega with VF5R are being exclusive to Japan.

Anybody who put's together a gathering or tourny(In the states or Europe)they're playing the 360 version, not the PS3. I don't know what competitive scene your talking about that is PS3 version only. And besides, this event is sponsor by Mirosoft, not SEGA. Mirosoft, promoted VF more then SEGA dating back to E3 07 . And WCG is a testament to this.

Are You serious? there a T6:BR machine in NY right now.

Too bad there is no VF5:R machine (VF is not big in chinatown anyway.) There was a VF4 machine years ago.

Why VF5 got selected (all opinion):
#1: Japan loves it, and so do I (REASON ENOUGH!)
#2: Soul Calibur fans didn't want to see SFIV in WCG so they voted for SC and VF.
#3: Street Fighter fans didn't want to see SCIV in WCG so they voted for SF and VF
#4: its a true test of skill (okay COMPLETELY opinionated)

The truth on why VF got selected: The WCG has had bad experience with console games, considering most of the attendées are kids with ADD, so they thought VF players was a breath of fresh air last year /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

    J/K.....or am I?

Not everyone has an Xbox 360. If WCG used SF4 or SC4 there'd be no issue because both of those games are virtually identical on PS360. In addition, it would not be difficult for Sega to update the PS3 VF5 to ver C, effectively solving the issue.

When we look outside of the US, Japan plays in arcades where they have VF5r. It's highly unlikely for a Japanese player to go out and get an Xbox 360 (because they probably don't have one pre-WCG) and VF5 ver C just to play in the WCG. Again... if WCG selected SF4 or SC4, or if Sega would treat the VF community a little better, this wouldn't be an issue.

All 5 people who hold gatherings? What about the larger audience that the WCG is trying to reach? Not everyone has an Xbox 360 to play on. As I said above, Japan is extremely lacking when it comes to playing on Xbox, and they'll be even worse off because they've been playing VF5r.

Also, why would Sega market VF5 when MS offered to do it for them? You can't say MS marketed more because you don't know what kind of deal Sega and MS came to in regards to VF5 on 360.

And you don't know what kind of involvement MS has with WCG. MS was a sponsor of CGS as well, but CGS didn't receive money from MS. I'm not saying I want WCG to use the PS3, just that having three different version of VF5 across three different platforms has a negative effect on competitive play. You can't really argue that.

The bottom line is that all of these issues would have been avoided if VF5r was available across the board.

You can count the number of T6 BR machines in the US on one hand. There has never been an official US arcade release and there never will be. Any arcade that wanted T6 Vanilla or BR had to import it at significant cost, which is why there's only about 5 machines in the US compared to hundreds of T5 machines.

The only other fighting game WCG has dealt with is DOA and they ran all three years of that terribly. A lot of people complained about how DOA was run, so whatever bad experiences WCG had was brought on by themselves. Not to mention the WCG admins are very uneducated when it comes to fighting games... at least when DOA was around. I didn't participate last year because of how poorly WCG ran things in the past and because I really didn't have the time.

Updating PS3 to version C costs money. Are you willing to spend that money? I'd rather sega save it for the next port of a VF game instead.

Also, if you watched the WCG last year, japanese players who were already playing R for a few months in the arcades went back to playing ver C on Xbox to join the tournament. Ike sarah, fuudo, kissa, shu, itazan, etc. I guess they all happened to have an Xbox copy of VF5.

There are atleast more than 20 T6/T6BR machines, aswell as the game being in more than 10+ different states and Canada aswell. Machines are on the east, west, midwest, north and south.

You were probably exaggerating with your numbers, but please do your research. And also as a matter of fact, I think there's more T6/T6BR machines than there are/were SF4 ones.

I've yet to play it, but there are plenty of U.S. players playing the game, which cannot be said about VF5R cause that shit is nowhere but Japan(thanks Sega).
