Now first off this is just an idea but lets say that every weekend we had friendly tournaments online? We could have a bracket showing who's fighting who and have everyone fight each other through private matches. Something like best of 3 matches (3 rounds each, random environment). What do you guys think of the this idea?

Be really hard to keep track of and do imo, not to mention different time zones, all that other nonsense, and frankly imo the lag is noticable enough for me really to not take it seriously.

Though I think it's an EXCELLENT idea for people who have absolutely positively NOBODY to play around them. And I'm mean BFE dudes, like no scene what so ever. Those guys get screwed plenty enough and should get some fun tournament like practice I guess.

Dan didn't you say it was just your connection and you have equal lag with everybody?

communities like GGPO have tournaments all the time and seem to have no problems despite all of the above.

I think it is a good idea and should be explored by xbox owners. I do think that the onus is on whoever steps up to the plate to handle most of the details as most people are going to be interested in the party but not planning or cleaning up.

Not having an Xbox I don't know what the online interface looks like (lobby etc)but I would say you'd want to look at moving the venue to an IRC like format so that you can deal with newcomers and defaults in real time.

http://www.bracketmaker.com/ is a great tool to organize and track your gatherings.

You can always use a system to award points and rank players so that if you gather in person you can have seeds all ready to go and see how everyone fares without the lag. the ranking system would even work for online if you just want to have a friendly bout based on historical performance.

All in all, I think it is a great idea. Get 'er done! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I would definitely take part in this.

Sure the lag would be a factor in certain matches, but overall I think the idea of xbl tourneys would do more good than harm as a way to bring the community together(especially the newbies like me lol)

There is no lobby, no chance to observe or record online matches, tbh the private match interface is about as crap as PS3 version startup...

The ranked side with more or less random opponents it doesnt matter as much but organising a 1v1 session is a hassle.

Is there a way to record your matches on the 360 version?

Then IRC or some other real-time venue would be good for participants.

As I mentioned earlier, other communities do it without any issue. It really is all dependent on the participants.

Yeah I'm for tournaments when available. But who's willing to set them up?

Yeah, I dont mind having tournaments between friends, but iwth the current vf5 360 online system I dont see a way to make the tournament results remotely reliable, youd have to be relying on the players to tell the correct results, and that doesnt work that well with unknown players. Theres not even the pc option of taking a screenshot out of the results..

Not the online matches. Only offline.

Well yes it is a honor system but people from here shouldn't be that lame. If it straight randoms then yes don't even bother. Just organize it on here and all should be good if there are idiots we'll weed them out quick.

If i have to ill try setting up the tournaments but i'll need help from those more experianced in doing this. And as for recording matches we could always put a camera in front of the tv, everyone has a camera so that should be easy

im saying we could post these matches the fighters could use a camera and record the fights then post them.

Is anyone willing to help set this up?

  18. I think it's a good idea. Fair enough, as good as the online play is on VF5 it can't match offline play, but everyone is at the same disadvantage.
As long as it's not taken too seriously and is taken for what it is and not high-level, offline tourney play, I can't see a problem.
Consider it a Sunday morning kick-around in the park, all for shits and giggles, with a competitive edge. It'd perhaps break the ice between members of the community who haven't had a chance to play each other yet.

Time differences and latency wouldn't matter much if the tourney was split into Euro and US sections either.

I'm interested in playing in one, if only to see how the best players fight. I don't expect to come anywhere but the lower rankings, as I'm brand new to VF. It'd be fun, though, and I might even end up learning something. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I don't have a camera, so recording matches would be a problem for me, but I don't see anything wrong with a honour system as long as there aren't idiots involved. Besides, a few weeks down the line you'd soon learn who can be trusted and who can't.

I don't have an Xbox360 version, but instead of a camera to record matches...can't you just save the replay of the match and put the saved file on the web?

As for "casual" online tournaments, you may want to check Brisal's online gathering/tournament topic in the Tournament forum section. They just had one this Saturday.
