Why is Akira so broken?

Seriously, I have a PHD and I can't understand for the life of me why these forums aren't riddled with posts along the lines of "Shoulder ram goes through low punch, WTF!?!?!", or "Double palm is 12 FRAMES, good job there sega". I know if I were to make a flagship character as fucking broken as Akira, I would promptly jump out the nearest window (hopefully a couple of stories up) so that I don't have to deal with the certain criticism I would have to deal with at the hands of the loyal gaming populous. In summation, if there were some way to delete this broken fucker from the face of the earth, I'd do it.

I'm an akira player and he's horrible. Worse character in the game. his punch is 20 frames, his double palm is 40 frames!? WTF! On the upside all his throws take at least 170 dmg.

(I guess I'm not done) Akira is a very good character but playing his is an uber difficult thing. If Akira was a bad character and all these difficult ass moves were useless then he would be absolutely horrible and a blunder to be in the game! Akira is the perfet example of training = rewards. I'm always becoming better with akira (not to say others aren't always becoming better with their characters *thats the beauty to VF*)

Akira isn't really broken, and there are a lot of threads talking about his strengths vs. other characters.

IE there are a lot of moves that will evade High attacks, like Akira's Shoulder (Goh's shoulder, Sarah's Dragon Cannon etc), and it's pretty Counterable, especially if your character has a 13 frame MC attack, like Shun, Lion, Pai, Lau, Goh, Sarah etc. Also, combos from the Shoulder require that you pay attention to weight and stance, unless you want to just use K+G, P or the DLC w/ no P before it.

the best tool against Akira is timing: know when to dodge (all of his attacks can be dodged to his back side except for the P+K+G, he has no circular attacks, you can even dodge his rising attacks), practice breaking F and D/F throws a lot. DON'T CROUCH!

Even though I play Akira, I play a lot of vs. Akira here in LA, and I've played a lot of vs Akira in Japan, and I have to say, I don't find him nearly as frustrating, annoying, or difficult as a good Lau, Sarah, Pai, Lei.

Understand that he's a Power character, he's gonna try to bite off big chunks of damage with single, heavy attacks. Learn the timing of the Aki you're fighting and it'll help a lot.

Sidestepping is the worst enemy of a player who plays akira that knows to delay moves. Though it is possible to deal with, shoulder ram = 70+, yoho = 70+ and that not including if u evade wrong way and get spoded. It depends on who u face. They see edteg comin, IT DON'T MATTER, Yoho in dat beotch and yes u have to know stance and weight combos but that is why they do so much damage. It is a balance issue, but shrm does go through lp.... /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i kinow what you mean. i trained with akira for an eternity before i got decent. you have to train your ass off to do his air combos and buffers. my months of training have paid off i can execute at will, in combos and sometimes (i was better at it in vf4) i really appreciate and understand akira and his extremelly powerful techniques. he's truely an expert's character. i think learning how to use this character will make you better t vf period.

How can you be better at DLC in VF4 it was way harder than in evo?

 

i was better at it, because i actually took the time to practice with akira. seriously i could do it off the bat like it was nothing. now i can't get it off so i don't bother. it's probably because i haven't really focused on akira that much. /versus/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
