Why VF looks so unappealing?

Hello i'm new to this community i played the Tekken series for a long time and i just recently started getting into VF and i kinda like it but most of the people still find it unappealing at 1st sight.

Which i enjoy a lot about Tekken is the huge characters and they fighting styles. Why AM2 can't do that? VF is older than Tekken but only has 16 characters! How?! I'm a Karate practitioner and where is the karateka in VF!? Where is the TKD(one of the most practiced MA) dude? Where are the chicks?

I think this is why VF is unappealing which is sad cause it gameplay is very challenging i they need to move on and evolve thus it could be far more popular than it is nowadays. What do you think?

You mean to destroy everything they have created to make Tekken 2.0?

    I hope not.

I overlooked the series for so long because it felt sluggish compared to 2D fighters.

I finally got around to playing VF, albeit it was VF5 but still, I wish I had bought into the series sooner.

Online play will attract far more players to the scene than some weirder characters which is evident by my inclusion in this community.

We must have differences in what we find appealing. I find Tekken's barrage of characters as part of its problem. Some seem to lack substance and ability, skewing the tier charts tremendously. I don't need hawt chix for the game to be good. While Sarah is listed as "Martial Arts" for her fighting style, she's really quite Tae Kwan Do. Akira and a few others have elements of basic Karate, filling that gap too.

It's quite popular, just not in the US, yet anyway. I hope they don't start using really petty gimmics to bring in more players either.

(And don't get me wrong, it sounds like I really hate on Tekken. There's just some traits of the series I no longer like is all.)

Akira's style is loosely based on Bajiquan Kung-Fu. Other than that I agree with KrsJin. VF5's more realistic approach appeals to more as both a gamer and a martial artist.

Yeah, though it's not realism I like about it (because even with legit styles, the mechanics and other things of VF are far from real lol).

I duno. I always try to stay away from comparing VF to others I guess, especially Tekken, cause I think they're completely different outside of both being 3D.

I think the difference for me is the lack of dominating tier lists. When my friends and I would play Tekken 2, it was almost unfair for me to pick Paul. I would kill them almost every time using only a few moves.

Virtua Fighter has the best balance amongst characters in ANY fighting game IMO, and that's why it's the greatest.

As unappealing at first sight as VF may be, you'll find a lot more people converting FROM Tekken than TO Tekken. VF's engine is unrivaled in terms of techincality. This particularly appeals to players looking for something more challenging.

I've played Tekken religiously since it was released for the original Playstation. The fighting engine is not very complex. It's a flashy game but often matches between more advanced players result in redundant backdashing and sidestepping. I've done a couple of tournaments and grew sick of it when I noticed how widespread this strategy was on the tourny scene.

VF5 has been a great refreshment for me.

Why does VF look so appealing to other people? Because they lack discipline. Correct me if I'm wrong but anyone who loses in a match of VF loses with honor, I've never played a match where the opponents taunted each other; because we know how hard it is to actually learn a character we have much more respect in that sense... So if I lose, I lose to a better player than me... Which makes me want to better myself so I go back to training. On the other hand, you have as an example anyone who plays Soul Calibur... my 9 year old sister picked it up and played with it and won by button mashing against all my friends with Sophitia. There is no respect in any of those games because you don't have to work to win... You get lucky. See my point?

PS Congrats to Tricky for number one on Eileen time attack

I say tekken sucks because the only one i played was Tekken Tag for the PS2. Maybe it didn't live up to the real games IDK. But let a franchise release a bad game does not deserve that i play another. VF gets better with every new one that comes out.

I think it's a shame that Tekken 6 looks like it's running on the same graphics engine as Tekken 5. People are expecting to play games that at least look next-gen.

Yet ANOTHER "VF vs Tekken" thread.
Give it a rest. I'm really starting to get fed up with new jacks like you coming on virtuafighter.COM trying to shit on Virtua Fighter /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif
Take that shit to zaibatsu or whatever thread you graphics-pretty colors-explosions-bouncing titties-etc-lovers dwell.

I once argued that VF needed some of that bullshit bc I thought at one point that the Western VF scene was going to die if it didn't do something to "counter" the competition.
I thought that by drawing in people like you, you guys could get past the lack of "coolness" and realize what an amazing fight engine VF has.

I saw how wrong I was when I tried out my copy of Tekken 5 on my PS3, just to see how it would look. I had not played Tekken 5 in a long time and I remember that I took a look at the beginning of that opening CG movie and thought to myself: "I remembered when this movie was the shit." and then I SKIPPED IT.
It had NOTHING to do with the gameplay. I played for about 5 minutes, took it out and put VF5 back in. WHY?
Because the gameplay wasn't as good as the "presentation".

VF doesn't need a story; CG intro/endings; bouncing titties; or APPEALING graphics.
It already has the most appealing GAMEPLAY, at least to me and, I'm pretty sure, most people here.

If AM2 happened to put some CG in VF6, I would watch it. If it was really good, I would probably watch it like 10 or more times but eventually, I wouldn't watch it anymore. If I was a fight game developer, I wouldn't even bother putting in so much work on something that the player is going to watch a few times and probably never watch again.
I'm glad that AM2 focuses more of their energy working on gameplay, that's why VF has evolved into what it is today, while Tekken5 is still just like Tekken3 but with better graphics and more characters.

    P.S.

Yes, that's definitely true about Soul Calibur II. In 2005, on one of my last days in San Diego, me, my friend and my girlfriend were on the GC version of Soul Calibur II, and I managed to beat Time Attack Extreme, with Talim (a character I can't use at all) and with my girlfriend's ample bosom smothering my face. There is no way I could do that with VF.

But anyway, going back on topic. KrsJin said about the large amount of characters in Tekken. That's one of the two main problems I have with Tekken. Most of their characters are completely unoriginal, and a lot of them are just duplicates of others with slight move changes. If they removed the duplicates, the cast would be about 9 characters.

The other reason is that to me, Tekken is so stiff to play.

I NEVER CRITIZED VF'S GAMEPLAY! That's what i praise about VF my point is if AM2 would make it more "attractive" for the ones you call "inferior noob tekken players" (cause that's what most of you think that you are superior only because you play VF) it would attract more players.
