Will EVO have a bigger impact in the U.S. than VF4

Now, I’m not talking about the hardcore. The true lovers and fighters that compose VFDC. No, I don’t refer to Creed and his hot sexy ass. Nor do I speak of the IRC Nazi, RSW. I’m not even talking about the hotness Adam Yuki, no these guys are true fans and will love the game no matter what. They represent the rest of us, the guys who see evo as additions to VF4.

I want to know what reaction people who didn’t know VF4 existed will have. When VF4 came out, its only competitor was tekken, and we all know how much that sucked. I think this is a big reason why so many new players showed up. Now I wonder, what will happen with the scene once EVO hits the us.

In a perfect world, VF would blow up. It would become bigger than even MvC2(Not only the most popular game in the us , but one of the only games we are the best at). But its not a perfect world. But still there is that hope, the hope that this will be different. That people will see just how pure and rich VF is. Get over the learning curve and figure out that it’s a master piece.

Now enough ranting, here are reasons why evo should do well.

    1. VF4 didn’t leave a sour taste in people’s mouth. It was played a lot, but well respected in the fighting game community.

    2. EVO looks amazing. It has much better graphics that VF4, Tekken 4, and especially soul caliber 2.

    3. Two new characters give the game a very, very large playing roster. So people will feel like they are unique. (ex. "everyone in Japan play akira")

    4. New animations means new look. Gone are the days of knees and elbows for everyone. In are the days of characters having a unique look and feel to them.

    5. For god sakes, all the other 3D fighters blow fuckin nuts.

    Reasons Why Evo will Fail

    1. No one plays VF. NYG3 was a very big gathering... with 30 people. I believe Street Fighter events reach the hundreds.

    2. VF is not easy. This is not Tekken, every move is VF is beatable. VF is a game of smarts not brawn. And for some reason most people are too lazy to try and get better.

    3. American arcades suck. They will get shit controls and the sticks will blow. I hate American arcades. New games are easy to spot because they let there other games go to shit. In Asian arcades, all games are treated like gold. (I think lol)

    4. No VF.net equals No items in the arcade. And that’s the main reason why people play VF in the states.

I hope this brings up some good light hearted discussions, don’t turn this into a thread about shit, I trust the mods will help me out in this.

    Entertaining post Jedi.

Even if Evo gets an arcade release that's more wide spread *cough* than VF4 (which I doubt it will), I'm guessing that it wont change much of anything. I think the best that most of us can hope for is to first of all, actually see it in our area, and then that it may attract an extra player or *gulp* two(!), to add to your already existing small group. To me that would be the most realistically ideal scenario. And still, it's a long shot!

I doubt that EVO will have as big of an impact as we would like it to. The steaming pile of crap known as Tekken 4 has brought new players over to VF4, but not enough to reach the level of MvC2 in terms of popularity. Sadly, the success of shallow games (like Tekken and DOA ) only serve as further proof that most gamers are casual gamers, and are simply too lazy to try a fighting game like VF. I hope I am proven wrong.

minor correction - I know the kind of people you were talking about, but some of the hardcore guys don't love VF "no matter what" ... specifically rsw. That's why he's been pretty much inactive on VFDC for a while, hates VF4's mechanics/frames/etc.

I know the average guy wouldn't drive a lot for evo, but people passing it in the arcade might play it more than VF4, a bit. It has a lot of scrub appeal like:
comical new throw animations (jacky shoves you down by the face)
lots of new yells and grunts - crumples, ground attacks, etc.
    - actually that's about it. the game will do about the same.

It would do 1000x better if sega would implement a fake vf.net system, whereby playing 1P and 2P mode would win you items. The items information could be sitting on the cartridge/rom and being wasted utterly, but us scrubs would LOVE to see different costume colors and swords and hair and dogs etc sticking out of the characters every time they walk by.

Here's a question: how does the popularity of SC2 stack up against VF? I always thought that SC had only a cult following in the U.S. like VF did (i.e. they have about the same size following), but by just casually browsing the SC2 forums, I see a few high profile Tekken players posting there. What is it about VF4 that turned these players away? Is there more competition in SC2 in those key areas than VF4?

It's any combination of brand loyalty, SC somehow being similar to Tekken (which is true as far as animations go), and unappreciation of VF in general. While it's true that the 'senior / expert' Tekken players have switched to SC2, at least the top Tekken 4 player in the US - tomhilfiger - has stated explicitly that most of the things that make SC 'great' turn him off, and that he prefers VF4. Which is why I shall happily post "Even tomhilfiger doesn't play SC2... he plays VF4" as many times as necessary. /versus/images/icons/cool.gif

Of course, with this new version of SC2, I can't fall back on my "go play your broken-ass SC2" anymore... gotta hope there's still some broken stuff!

I think people still see vf as very stiff...the moves are viewed as still, as is the flow...that is one of the main percieved detriments of vf...That and arcade distribution...almost every arcade gets the newest tekken...

Stiff? I think that applied for VF3--you're the first I've heard complain about that in VF4.

Triple Lei, where are you and tomhilfiger located?

I remember reading about vf4 in egm, I kept thinking about buying it...when I finally bought it and took it home I couldnt wait to open it up and play...

but now my beauty is soon to be outdated?

at first I thought, "no sweat, I'll buy the new one, no big deal" then it hit me (and it felt like a monster truck by the way) that this game may come out on another console! please tell me that this game will be on several consoles...( Im sorry I know this may be a bit off topic)

Yeah, that is the main complaint from my friends (most of which are mainly tekken players), that vf4 still seems stiff...THen again, they feel that Tekken 4 has better animation, graphics, etc...

Are they 10-hit string combo fiends? Is that why?

I think most casual gamers who did buy vf4 when the home system came out were just buying something to "pass the time" before Tekken 4 came out. They were already set that Tekken 4 was going to be better. The day Vf4 came out, there was over 30 plus people standing in line waiting for the game. I exchanged numbers and email addresses with many of them but not one replied back to attend a gathering. Also, most of the people told me that they were just playing this game to hold them down till Tekken 4. So they already set thier minds on what they want. I really hope I can find some of these people again and ask them what they think about tekken 4 now to see if they changed their minds. Casual ps2 nation doesn't play in the arcades imo.

As for Evo, I think it will attract some new players here and there if the arcades get the game. I also think that coming out for the xbox (possibly) will attract some other gamers since the xbox doesn't have any real quality fighting games. I think it's up to us hardcore gamers to keep the newbies interested in the game. Which means, to try and teach them if they ask questions, get some contact information to keep in touch, and let them win a few. Not totally dominate them and get them frustrated. I know that happend before in other games. Us Florida guys will be doing that right guys? /versus/images/icons/wink.gif Most gamers that I know who play sc2 or tekken 4 say they don't like vf4 because of two main reasons. They don't like the flow of the game. And they don't have many people to play against. There are tons who still don't know about vfdc and such. So that's our job to educate them. I think you have to pass an invisible barrier when learning vf4. Before you pass that barrier, the game is essentially just ppk, pkp, or pppd+k for most causal/newbies that are playing the game. Once they pass that stage, they will know there is a reason why we low punch several times, or why we ecd, ect.

actually, no...My friend Ben has a mix up infiite style with Howrang, and his friend plays very aggressive custom string with Lei-Fei, Ogre, and a few other characters.

Man youre absoloutly right when you mentioned about people buying vf4 to kill the time for tekken, this is exactly what i did.
Igot vf4 at the start of july and it has taken over my life completely (but i still thought tekken 4 would be better) but after getting tekken 4 on monday i played it for a while but i could'nt put up with it for more than two days it has been a real let down, its unfair and down right dirty.i was playing the survival mode and noticed how easy it was to get your opponent into a corner and just not let him up it just clearly does not seperate the men from the boys whearas vf4 does,I can play tekken against my button mashing mates and get my ass kicked when we all no that i am a better player than them but when it comes to vf4 they have no chance because it just simply does not award button mashing as much.
I was also dissapointed at the character roster they claimed all year round that they had plenty of new characters when really the only new ones where steve fox craig marduk, violet is just lee chaolin in disguise, christy montero is just eddy in disguise combot is just mokujin in disguise at least with vf and evo we are getting genuine new characters that arent just shitty revamps of old ones...

One thing that has been good about my tekken 4 experience it has made me realise just how finely tuned, well balanced, sophisticated and realistic virtua fighter really is.

This is so sad, but so true... VF4 has been my #1 fighting game since the beginning of this year (before US PS2 release date). It rates well over any other fighter (IMO) for these reasons:

T4-- This game was a rush job. Namco could have done so much better, but they gave like 3 new moves to each new character, and they went and made Jin overly rediculous with his parry and JF. The graphics are nice, but I hate the limited movement... I feel like my feet are in mud when I play T4. Yoshi is still fun to play though, as long as I don't go up against Jin Scrubs.

TTT-- Although it's way too easy to turtle in this game, it ranks as my #2 favorite game, and until Namco redeems themselves for T4, it will remain so. The large character selection and "tag" feature is what saves this game for me. Otherwise it would get old fast. Sadly, even TTT gets predictable despite all this. Not a balanced game by any means, but still fun.

SC2-- Can't really rate this game because I don't play SC or SC2. I like the idea of weapons fighting, but I've already seen how fubarred the GI system is and how cheesey the Sidewalk is. Namco just can't stop making games with cheese factor I guess. I will play SC1 only because it's free on my DC. I won't even think about paying 50 cents a game for SC2. Lol.

DOA-- I won't even waste my time here.

2D Fighters-- Don't play any of them, so nothing to be said.

All in all, I honestly hope VF4E will pick up popularity, but I'm afraid that as long as Namco keeps spewing forth crap ass games with eye candy for casual gamers, VF will get screwed. Namco fanboys are just hard-wired into that love-hate relationship with Namco games, and will not change for anything.

So in closing, I say let those idiots enjoy their inferior games and let VF attract those who are ready for it.

Have they improved the sound yet ?

VF4 sounds all to quiet when you compare with other games. e.g there is not much voice in there (screams, cries etc) esspecially when they get hit by SPoD in the face or a kick in the dangly bits dont seem to hurt the male VF's and in VF4 when they fall out of the ring they dont scream, shout or even cry . And above all the punch and kick sounds are totally SHIT i mean why do a " woooooooooosh " sound for a round house kick. They should improve this RIGHT NOW

Since we talk about VF does am2 no ?

Does any one bother telling them these improvements ? /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

Jeez, now THAT'S a very, very minor quibble if I ever heard one.

But if it makes you feel better, all the characters have multiple yelps of pain in Evo.

Man i would strongly suggest you get the fuck out of here if all your going to do is dis the game this site is for people dedicated to this game and if all your going to do is pick out minor issues and complain about them well your presence in this site is unwanted.

this is the second time ive seen you doing this sort of thing,if you really want to learn the game sit back and be content listen to what experienced players have to say and if you have any appropriate things to say regarding the subject then post it.

im also still in the learning stages and i know for a fact that the players in this site have a lot to teach,so please dont sit back and dis our pride and joy(mine anway)..
