[IMG] The third week of WNFs with VF5FS will be happening tonight! In the last two tournaments, both DRE and LA Akira finished in the Top 3. Will there be new challengers showing up to take their spots!?

WNFs are hosted at the Super Arcade in Walnut, California with the tourney to start ~ 9 PM PST. Casuals start at 7 PM PST. $5 to get in. $5 to enter tournament.

For past summaries of the previous events, please check the Wednesday Night Fights - Weekly VF5FS Tournaments Summary Thread. For those that don't live in the Los Angeles area, the event will be streamed at the Level|Up Live Channel.

I hope more 'veterans' show up this time, I was sad when I saw LA's distaste last week.

I'll be cheering Kaozen on! (but I trust LA will win [IMG] )

Not to put others on blast (you know who you are), but it seems like California and New York are the ONLY states actively promoting this game on a weekly basis.

Sure the quality of matches may not be the greatest (players are still learning), some known local vf players may not show up (they have lives outside of vf), and sometimes a new or unknown player in the VF community can get far in a tourney.

In my opinion I rather have all of that, instead of a scene or community that does nothing to promote the game to others.

I have to agree with Brisal. WNF is not just for the veteran community to come out and who their stuff, but it is also a great way to meet and introduce new players to VF. Try and remember back to the days before the home console could run games like Virtua Fighter, Tekken, or Street Fighter. We all had to meet at the local arcade and learn from each other and then teach it to the new players that would walk through the door.

I have waited whole night, listen Mike Ross trash talk before tournament and I'm writing this during 3rd fight. Stream is unwatchable, waiting for archives and going to get some sleep.

I'm sad that I can't watch it live...

I'm loving what Southern California is doing to promote VF, you guys keep it up! Same with New York! You guys are leading the country. It doesn't mean you're the only ones doing it, but you guys are the ones who are able to do it on a mass media level and I so appreciate that! So much work, so much appreciation--know that ^_^

That said, I'm really happy that WNF has more players in VF this week and loving what everyone's doing. I just hope they are able to improve the stream!

Also, other scenes are working on it, but it's at a more grassroots level and I'm shy about putting everyone in my scene on the spotlight (though we actually are streaming weekly from both Portland and Seattle). I've been working hard both with Washington State and Oregon players, but it's been more direct, and has been more in building a core competitive group while also helping out people casually interested in VF too. But I've been doing it in a less public way, while still making public announcements. Heck, when I get to watch the WNF streams, I actually do a regional live-commentary of the matches and even relate stories about some of the players ^_^

That said, what Southern California VF is doing is awesome and so I'm just... really proud of El Brisal, Plague, LA Akira, and everyone else in the SoCal VF scene. You guys are promoting the game beyond your domain and it's just awesome to watch and I'm watching every week and excited for the podcast too.

That said, I feel I don't have enough online credibility to really do too much publicly or promote the game to a mass audience. So I do what I can promoting it 1:1, regionally, and even on facebook groups like NorCal VF or the VF Worldwide Dojo group and what not.

But I will say, the work has been paying off. A good amount of players in Oregon and Washington are getting better, working at the game, and coming from all sorts of backgrounds. And they are getting more and more competitive. Many of them have really raised their game on a noticeable level and I think there will be some unknowns making noise in the future. But that said, I'm doing what I can to keep them improving and enjoying VF and ultimately love the game like many of us already do. It's a fun adventure and these are amazing times for VF in North America!

I also want to work with Western Canada players too, just need to see if there's a guy holding that scene together and promoting local events (there is a lot of regular offline play in both Seattle and the Portland areas).

Again, you might not see it so visibly, but the scenes are getting better on a regional level. VF is getting better on a continental level [IMG]

      Chanchai,

I know you're doing your best and I respect your efforts.

My comment was geared towards the players that complain about the streams that are out there without doing anything for their community.

We are slowly building and as an example of tonight's WNF we are heading in the right direction. It was quite a nice thing to see with 31 players lined up against the setups 2 layers deep.

It was a nice turnout of players and also 4k+ viewers is awesome. It's too bad the stream was shit quality though, that kind of ruined everything. Not that it's anything that could have been controlled by the players, but disappointing nonetheless.

Sorry about the stream tonight, fellas. It might have been a problem with the PS3 they were streaming from. Next week we will try to do it on the Xbox instead.

For all those made it down, thank you so much! We had an awesome turnout with 31 people entering the tournament and I hope to see everyone again next week! [IMG]

So how do I do this. Pay $10 and I can play as much as I want + tournament, or is it $10 + tourney and quarters for machines ?

Either way I will go support soon

The $10 is just for the tournament. No quarters necessary, all the units are on PS3's. Highly recommend showing up early playing as many casuals as you can, then sticking around for the tournament. It's a great time, with a ton of really strong players. Way better than just watching the stream!

not to shit up an otherwise fine thread but the lack of (or lack of awareness of) a live or archived stream is not indicative of a lack of action from other communities. I'm sure some communities envy California's position of having an established venue that is supporting their game but that luxury isn't universal or even possible in other locations.

Just because you don't see it on Twitch, or on VFDC doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

NL guys actually want to start a weekly tournament on Tuesdays but they don't want to stream it cuz of the work involved. Least we still get our monthly event streamed.

Hi guys, were the Grand Finals streamed? Because I can't find them in the archives.

I was talking with the Level|Up crew about the streaming problem. The capture card was overheating. The problem persisted, even when playing AE on 360. The problem was not with the gaming hardware, but the streaming hardware.

It should be on VFDC. The more communities event posts here, the longer the game lives.

Before Super Arcade and Level|Up this year, the SoCal community met in people's houses and played on couches, and held annual tournaments in rented out restaurant space. I would like to think that Super Arcade, TwitchTV, and Level|Up is the sweet reward for years of work to keep our community relevant and alive. Plague, L_A, and Brisal posting SoCal events on VFDC made that happen.

They were not streamed. The streaming issues and AE tournament lasted much longer than anticipated.
