VF4 [ print friendly ] [ command view ] Lesson #2 Beating Elbow in Disadvantage
Using a low P in an advantaged situation isn.t the best choice.
Therefore, people normally use an elbow in the range of +2-+4
situations. Let.s look at how to beat an elbow in disadvantage.
(Sabaki moves or reversals are excluded)

Lion (3P+K+G)
Lion.s 3P+K+G has a property of dodging many different moves in
disadvantage, but it varies with stance or opponent.s character.
It.s one of those moves that require some extensive study.
Lion (44K)
No explanation needed.
Lion (44G, P+K)
Compared to 44K, this move leaves you safer when it failed. When
you feel uncertain, go with this.
Pai (2_4P)
One of Pai.s magics.
Lau (1P+K)
One of Lau.s magics.
Jeffry (44, 3K+G)
Due to its motion, 3K+G can beat an elbow or a low P.
Jeffry (6P+K)
With the right distance, 6P+K beats P, 2P, or an elbow in
disadvantage.
Kage (44, 3P)
In order to beat an elbow, 44 has to be a long range backdash.
Beacause of this reason, with this timing, 44, 3P doesn.t work
against a LP.
Goh(44, 46P+K or 4P+K)
It.s a pretty useful technique for Goh as he.s options are limied.
Jacky(6P, 44, 4K+G)
A pretty irritating flow chart.
Shun (2P, 44, 236P)
A very useful technique if practiced enough.
Aoi(2_3P)
2_3P beats an elbow in any situation.
Brad(4KP, back slipping, P)
The back slipping P comes out in the same frame as opponent.s elbow
but prevails due to its higher damage. It should be buffered with
no frame loss.
Generally speaking, using an elbow in about +4 situations means a
stable style of play, but if your opponent reads it, they can beat
it by using those techniques similar to the ones covered here. More
complicated situations will be talked about in the next lesson.
