Creating this thread to archive and document the twitter tech of Japanese Lau player, Heppoko Lau!
    X Profile: https://x.com/heppoko_lau

I encourage other people to contribute to this thread to keep it up to date as a community is better at keeping it that way than one person.

That said, the following information should be included:
    • Embedded Videos From the Tweet (This will include the tweet actually)
    • "Translation of the Tweet" (you can use any translator, including the Google Translate option on X)
I also encourage people to comment on the technique and make this a lively discussion too (or create another thread on the topic to keep VFDC conversations more lively)!

Transcribing the sequences/combos from the videos is not necessary, but it would be wonderful. I will try to help with this sometimes, but sharing the links and cataloguing takes higher priority and I don't want to make this archival process too much work per contribution. It is really easy to fall behind on archiving twitter tech when you're trying to be perfect.

Also, it is okay if the translation is not perfect. Keeping these things documented is top priority and I encourage people to add commentary about the tweet or its translation too, but it is not mandatory.

Simply sharing is caring here ^_^

REMINDER: VF5US was updated to 2.0 approximately December 12th, 2024

FINALLY: If you do have an account on X, I do think it's good to like and retweet Heppoko's posts to help spread awareness of his efforts and Lau Tech!

I'll start with Heppoko's ADVICE FOR PLAYING 2.0 when it launched.

Learning as I post here about what to expect if I put up a lot of Twitter videos and it seems like a possible limit per post.

    Right now it looks like...
    • I will make the first post link to tweets without posting all the videos (so reader will have to click on the link to watch the video) because it seems like there are limits on how many embeds per post and when it'll stop loading, at least on Safari.
    • I might be posting Heppoko's tweets almost individually. We will see how this all works!

The original tweet also had this typo, but this should read as 214P+G.

BTW @Chanchai what's motivating you to create/maintain this thread?

I love forums because they have a chance of being an actual stable place of information. I also love VFDC, to be honest ^_^

I do appreciate and enjoy the feeling of open communication on the fleeting social media platforms like Twitter/Bluesky and Discord, but they are... fleeting.

Japanese VF Twitter has awesome stuff but digging back to it always sucks and then when you remember it existed and want to go find it, well... kinda hard.

That said, it is harder to get newer generations of players to engage on forums--many times people feel like they will be gate-kept or that they have to post a research and well written and prepared essay on a forum so they'll feel more comfortable speaking a little more freely on Discord or Twitter or Bluesky--I get that... But forums are still the best form of community accessible notebook and you know that I have never felt shy about posting whatever on here, even when people complained that I was speaking too much redundant information to the new players or my posts are too long--I am who I am and I know there are people I'm helping too ^_^

So having said all that, it would be nice to archive a lot of really good content that has been made. Even from Japanese players. And to share it in a way where it'll keep helping people even 6 months from when it was originally posted. So that's my motivation ^_^

That said... the downside is that even I fall a bit to the sense that I need to gather all the data and put it together nicely before putting up some info on a forum... and I've been busy with work the last 3 weeks so I haven't made the time to put more of Heppoko's updates here.

I think that functionally, everyone would agree that a forum is a better place to store information. But sadly, comfort/discomfort are probably the biggest elements for engagement and activity and there can be many ways to comfort but also many ways for people to feel discomfort too.

Also... when things are fleeting... they can seem more exciting. That's a factor too.

But functionally, a forum is just a better place to store information for a community. And I love the history of conversations on VFDC too!

Sorry, what I actually meant was why did you specifically choose heppoko's account to document? I know you're a Lion loyalist, but do you also have an interest in, or play, Lau?

I've been playing a lot of characters on the side, though I have more publicly been playing Lau for fun haha.

The biggest reason for playing other characters has been to help teach people how to play and give them some ideas on how to use the moves of the character.

That said, one of the most fun things about playing Lau is dealing with how "honest" he is because of having to confirm better with him, work on some skills in a more direct way, dealing with a character that is standing so much on many of their options--Lau challenges me to work on a lot of skills I might work on a little less with Lion hahaha.

That said, I do bring a lot of my Lion play into Lau too because of my confidence in applying certain skills--but that's what I love about VF overall, every character has all of the tools to solve problems in various ways ^_^

I've also played a lot of Aoi since VF3tb on the side, but I don't bring it out competitively much haha. Though Spotlite was really surprised when I played Aoi against him and how I used her way back in the day.

Recently I played with Jeffry a lot too, to better understand the dynamics of heavy characters and it also helped me understand why some heavyweight players seemed confused about the way players might play lightweight characters (especially when they wonder why we might use evade so much). For whatever reason, a lot of the strongest players on the West Coast USA do not play heavyweight characters that much (Adam being a big exception), but there are a lot on the East Coast and I have been fighting more of them recently and it's really helped me understand more nuance in the design of the heavyweight characters ^_^

This month, I have been playing a lot of Vanessa too haha.

I think most of all, I better understand why a lot of people who do not play Lion get confused about the way that Lion players tend to plays or their reasoning in the value (reward:risk) judgments.

For the record, I am not exactly a loyalist... I just really love playing Lion in every game hahahaha

(a big surprise considering that the reason I started playing Lion was that I just randomly selected him when I decided to focus on a character for VF3tb on Dreamcast back in 1999--I played Akira and Sarah before that, and Lau in VF1)
